Today, in misery loves company

I have to admit I’m getting a certain amount of satisfaction out of the buyer’s remorse I’m seeing in certain quarters after Todd Grantham’s departure from Louisville.  I mean, who could have ever guessed this?

University of Louisville senior starting linebacker Stacy Thomas said that the terminology related of new coordinator Peter Sirmon’s defense are such that the Cardinals are getting play calls in faster than the defense did last season.

“The play-calling, the vocabulary is brought down so we can get the plays quicker,” Thomas said after Wednesday’s spring practice. “That’s a good thing from last year about it.

“,,, We had a couple games where they would run hurry-up (offenses) and then we would have trouble getting the call and then echoing it to everybody else, so that was an issue last year. But it doesn’t seem to be an issue right now.”

Well, besides anybody who watched Grantham fail to get an eleventh defender on the field in time to stop a Chubb touchdown run in the Belk Bowl (see the 2:18 mark in the clip below for that), that is.

If the Dawgs don’t run some hurry-up against Mississippi State this year, Jim Chaney will be guilty of some serious coaching malpractice.

  1. It is amazing to me that this man continues to get hired. His reputation has to be shit in coaching circles.

It has been a consistent comment once he leaves. I certainly don’t miss our defensive guys running around, pointing at each other as the ball was snapped.

He must also get the most incredible references from former bosses I’m telling any other school that’ll listen how much I’d hate to lose Coach Todd Damn Grantham, but if he’s gotta go I’m glad its an outstanding program as yours OK gotta go now byyyyeeee.

All of us thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread when CMR first hired him.

      • Hmmm, ok. I get that we were all excited that Willie was gone, but after watching Richt get rolled by Kirby, Chavis, and Foster, I had reservations about getting our 4th (at best) choice.

Typically, getting your 4th choice for anything doesn’t end well.

After watching Kirby get rolled by a piss poor Ole Miss and a horrible coaching job overall, I had reservations about him and his ability to hire quality OC’s.

Yea but he has all those NFL connections so he can tell recruits there’s a reliable pipeline right to the top!

Man, it was amazing how much faster our defense looked overnight with Pruitt in charge. There were still growing pains for sure, but goodness, they just got to go play.

Last year seemed like a step in the direction of Grantham versus Pruitt in terms of our defense. I’d bet that’s why they seemed a step slower as well as overmatched in the redzone where you don’t have as much room for error. Hopefully CKS and crew simplify what they want from the D this off-season to allow them to run fast and angry to the ball.

When Grantham was at Georgia, they had to change out all of those posters in the cafeteria. The “Universal Sign of Choking” wasn’t having your hand over your throat, it was a Bulldog linebacker or defensive back staring at the sideline with his hands up, clueless.

I thought you were going another direction with that comment, the Jacksonville Choke Sign.

Oh wow, I’d deleted that from my memory banks. But yeah, that was also lots of fun to have to try to defend as a fan. That and nearly coming to blows with James Franklin, which, I guess I’m still on Todd’s side because Franklin is a serious a-hole, but still. Neither were a great look.

Let’s hope that remains in the past tense.

Just for kicks, I looked it up – he went 6-6 against the SECW while at Georgia, giving up an average of 24.7 per game.

Giving up 41 to 2016 Kentucky isn’t exactly a recipe for success, either.

Grantham seems exactly the sort of coordinator you don’t want in a division featuring Ole Miss, Auburn, and Texas AM. Alabama will push the pace if they see real advantage in it, Only LSU and Arkansas could really be counted on to slow things down.

    Interestong landing spot for him.

I can remember the names of a few on here who were stupidly cheering Grantham while our D was going to shit. Even the excuses were unbearable: “If the O didn’t score so fast and put our tired D back in so fast , we would be more successful.”. Grantham jumped on that excuse with his “tired rotation” meme like a chicken on some kinda’ bug.

Anti-Bobo talk followed even as he honed the best O in the SEC and the country. And you wouldn’t listen.

Don’t worry, I think of your dumb asses every time I see you post. Makes me want to resurrect the Fing Scooter dealerships. Anyone in the market?

  9. Befuddled is the term I am looking for. As in, our defense looks befuddled when he is in charge.
