Job One in the opener is pretty obvious.

Since mid-2014, Appalachian State is 23-1 when it rushes for more than 200 yards in a game, 4-4 when it doesn’t.

    Nicholls St only rushed for 125 last year year. I feel better already.

      If Nicholls is going to be your permanent standard by which you judge Georgia’s future prospects, you might as well fire Smart now and get it over with already.

        In all fairness the marine, I understand how that near miss with Nicholls, lingering in the back of our minds, makes one cautious about underestimating ANY team…

        I think we both hope that game could not in any way become a permanent standard of ANYTHING UGA, but it happened. Until I see something that convinces me it probably won’t happen again, I will worry. It’s not exactly the case we improved over the course of the season either. Reading between the lines, I get the impression you think I’m beating a dead horse and it’s getting old. Noted. I am, but I won’t continue to do it here. It probably IS getting old. Thanks for helping to keep me straight.

          No man, there are some crazies here but you aren’t one of them. Most guys are solid here, certainly better football thinkers than the other sites. You will go head-banger on those kiddie places in a short time.

    Shutting down the run should be job 1 in every game. If you can’t stop the run, you aren’t reestablishing the line of scrimmage to your advantage. That failure opens up everything else for the offense.

    It’s the running quarterback that concerns me. Carter and Bellamy need to show that they are ready for prime time. No reason we shouldn’t shut them down and dominate. Hopefully we have some swagger.

    So it’s safe to say that if Appy St. Is running wild on us and Chubb & co. are consistently being hit behind the line of scrimmage, then we’re in some deep doo doo this season.

      I’m expecting exactly that. Improvements by UGA can be factored in for the season, but any thought of taking them for granted and UGA running up the score would constitute naïvete’ in my book.

    I’m far more concerned about our offense scoring points. Considering how craptacular our offense and STs were last season, slowing down the Appy State running game might not make my top 5 list of concerns.

    It’s our home field. We’re supposedly a top 25 program that’s one of the favorites for a division title. Any OC worth a nickel would put up at least 40 against Appy.

    I really don’t have anything to take from the Appy. If UGA plays good then Appy gets Dawgraded to a crappy team or it is what is expected from a SEC team if Appy keeps it close then UGA just wasn’t motivated and was looking ahead to week 2. I don’t really know what to learn from this game except who is playing where.

    It’s pretty simple if you can’t “impose your will” on App State, you suck. I agree with eethomas above I don’t want our guys showboating I want them playing sound football.
