I think MICH at 9 is odd. That team lost something like 14 SENIOR starters. An absurdly experienced team is gone.

On the one hand, tons of returning talent, Georgia should be one of more improved teams. On the other hand, Georgia was significantly worse than it’s record last year by S&P+, so even a big step up might not crack the top 25.

So, the poll either thinks the freshman class is going to make a contribution or it thinks the coaching will be butter.
Or, they just put the same 15-18 teams in the top 25 every year and sprinkle in 7-10 hot newbies.

Final Coaches Poll rankings after Richt had “righted the ship” in 2011:
2011: 20th
2012: 4th
2013: NR
2014: 9th
2015: 24th
Smart may not work out, and I certainly wouldn’t have hired him as my first choice, but can people stop trying to rewrite history? Richt was a good coach, but he wasn’t fired for no reason.

Bad year, good year…bad year, good year…..bad year, ? (Fired). Let’s see how Kirby can do coming off a bad year….even in the select period you posted on Richt, he proved he could. When looking at Richt, look at the entire body of work…not a bad career. The last I looked, I believe his average rank was #9 could be wrong…but I believe that is what it was. Also top 5 in wins (active coach).
To me, Richt proved he could coach….Smart is trying to prove he can…& I certainly hope he does. He has his chance, I hope he proves it.

Yeah, I remember when we were using interns for a coaching staff with the WR coach as HC and beat them with the worst 10 win team in the history of football.

I understand, the sins of Ped St. are already stripped away and they are a media darling again. However, when you break down their ’16 schedule name me a decent squad they beat aside from tOSU (a flukey backdoor win at that) and Wisconsin in the B10 Champ.? I maintain their sched was cream cheese soft.

I understand you dont like Franklin, but you have give credit where credit is due. He won 10 games ( knock on wood) as he is bringing that program back from near death.

I don’t concern myself much with Franklin, it’s that circus/sham of a college that gets under my saddle. And my point stands about the schedule that allowed such a season.

I’m guessing you feel that way about our 2015 schedule as well. We didn’t beat any team worth a crap but yet you some on here who keep beating the we won 10 games drum. At least PSU beat a ranked team last year.

So this poll is made from the opinions of coaches that volunteer to answer it, I wonder, at this busy time of year, how much thought they put into it. I’m sure it varies coach to coach..of course….but we’ve heard the stories where a coach decides he “doesn’t have time for this shit”, and has a flunky fill it out for him.
On the other hand, some coaches see it as a way to upgrade their SOS and Dawg grade others.
Still, it’s pretty interesting.. LSU, AU, UGA, and UF all kind of packed in there together.
Conspicuous by it’s absence is Notre Dame. Also Ms. State. I think both are top 25 teams.
I’m admittedly paranoid and a conspiracy theorist.
This is an early “Dawgrading” of the SEC to keep any SEC team that doesn’t win the conference out of the Only Four…while making it possible to say something like this.
“Wisconsin, lost two games to two top season picks. Ohio State and Michigan. Georgia lost only to Alabama in a close one in Atlanta, but didn’t face a top ten rated team in the regular season. So Wisconsin should get the berth.
(no, I don’t think Georgia will be undefeated going into Atl..if they get there at all…but whoever the SEC runner up is will get this kind of treatment from Herbie and the boys)
Don’t think coaches don’t try to manipulate this stuff. Some of them do.
And don’t think “the committee” is made up of geniuses who can see through coaches polls and think for themselves. It isn’t.

I’m guessing Herman. Just reading GTP convinces me that most UGA fans are in a “wait and see” mode. After last years debacle, we’re hopeful but not confident…most of us…I think.

Herman has a new locker room, one of Kirby’s cast-offs at RB, and a messy but promising situation. He’ll slay a big game (OU), but he’ll lose a game he should win. Does it every year.

Agree my butt-admiring friend. I would rather we start off unranked every season and work our way up. The rankings will take care of themselves. If we win in the SEC, we’ll make the ranking…

Sounds about right based on the few questions we have to answer and our issues last year, but we will finish higher than that. Michigan, AU, and State Penn look to be the most over rated to me, unless you count the entire Big 14 as a team. But it is the Coach’s Poll so who pays it much attention, is there a worse poll in the entire country? Cannot believe it has survived this long; a joke, particularly when the season begins.
