It’s closed to the public, so you know what that means: a good friend of somebody’s cousin talked to someone who knew someone else who got to see it, and that person’s been familiar with the program since Dooley and he just had to post that guy’s impressions on a message board because things are really different now…

I don’t care what any specific running back did, who threw an int, or who caught 3 bombs for 200 yards. In the end, all that matters is can the 5 up front block. That, I won’t know until the end of game 1.

While I fully understand the certainty for many fans to over react to stats without seeing the actual live action but I don’t agree with Kirby’s veil of secrecy on scrimmages. Feel fans should hear some of the specifics with his context on the overall. We have three weeks to go, the fans are getting amped up, feed them a little raw meat. Even if some of the specific details of negatives are suppressed (INTs, fumbles, injuries, etc.) this is something we need to get through the next 3 weeks. I know some feel the fans have no right to that data, I think getting the crowd stoked is a part of summer camp. This is just too Sabanesque for me, and leads to more false info from “insiders”.

Matt Storm got 1 year of eligibility left. Dawgs go to a 1-7-3 defense, 3 & out for O’ each and every time. They can’t beat us if they can’t score. If Dawgs can get a return man, heard Cameron Nizialek can now hit’em from 75 yards out. Bigger, Stronger, Faster, Smart(er)…….15 & 0 FWIS!!

Just post a spoonful out every thirty minutes, I don’t need any sleep tonight. That would give everybody a chance to run through every conceivable interpretation, and off advice to Kirby on how to proceed going forward. Perfect!

I don’t have any problems with the closed scrimmages. They’re doing and trying stuff we don’t want others to see at this point. Smart move in my opinion.

Agree. Plus, there were fans there last week getting a little red meat. He has let us (and the rest of the world) see what he is willing to let us see. We all need to keep some of out cards hidden until it is time to play them.

I don’t think anyone is complaining about closed scrimmages, that is the norm everywhere. It is the information about how things went and some highlights, That was the change last season and it didn’t seem to foll anyone we played, or help the offense/STs.

What is interesting is not the secrecy but how “insiders” spin things up and create a false sense of greatness for the fan base — click bait indeed. The truth of the matter is Smart does throw out a lot of subtle hints that say, we might have some issues —- and when he does that, I really listen. He is not very comfortable with the offensive line for the second year and he has a lot of concerns about the secondary. I remember him talking about that last year —- I really hope the two comparisons between last year and this year don’t merry up. If so, I think this will again be a frustrating and disappointing season. You can throw Eason in the mix as part of the conversation as well. He has been dropping hints he is not pleased with his progression — can’t say he is a freshman this year so he has used other things. Bottom line, I don’t think you can read anything into what comes out of a scrimmage.

I agree the coaches and players get a lot out of the scrimmage. What comes from post scrimmage coach comments and the “insight” provided by those who know someone who was there, not so much.

Yep….he is still complaining about the talent level. Thinks that runs the risk of alienating your players. He knew what he was getting into when he took the job (40 wins/4 yrs). I guess he wanted to walk into a ready made Bama situation….and I am still not convinced he could win if he did.

While it still remains to be seen how good of a head coach Kirby Smart will be, when he says that the secondary is giving up too many big plays for his liking and that they are young doesn’t sound like complaining about the talent level to me, but I realize people perceive things differently.

Is he complaining or just implying?? There have been 2, 3 times or more that he has complained about the talent level since he got the job. Never forget when he first got there he stated that the dawgs were not “big enough, strong enough and fast enough”. A lot of built-in excuses, thinks he just needs to buckle down and do something about it….quit complaining. He knew what he had when he got there….a 40 win team the past 4 years…have I mentioned that before??

No one can ever convince me that Smart helping Alabama wining a NC helped recruiting more than Smart recruiting for Georgia would have helped Georgia.

We must be listening to two different Kirby Smarts because while he has stated that Eason still has work to do, he has stated that the sophomore QB has improved and that was backed up by Jim Chaney last Saturday. It is also backed up by practice reports that he is throwing the ball better and his mechanics are better. Now, that is just practice and Eason has do that when the lights come on, on Saturdays.
As far as the o-line, I don’t know why fans would expect a miracle to start the season when they are having to replace both starting OTs, an OG and Gaillard is moving over to center to start there for the first time. And it’s quite possible that a couple of freshmen could be starting on that unit. I expect they will have their ups and downs
Agree that insiders and media will spin things a lot from just those few minutes they get to see. And we as a fan base, most of it, because of our passion and love for the Dawgs, eat it up … hook, line, and sinker.

.740 win percentage, Smart gonna have to win 14 or more to better that this year. Not keeping count, just sayin’. Change was made to get better….I’m in his corner, patience is needed. How many years for this “voluntary rebuild” IYO??

Watched the former UNC QB light up the field in the NFL game and still don’t know how we beat them. Between that first game and the next Kirby and company regressed and kept regressing for the rest of the season. If we don’t see at least some improvement in this team we have a SNAFU on our hands. I guess we will just keep trying to get butter.

Thinks there is such a thing as over-coaching, if I had to guess…I’d say he did plenty of it last year. We had an OL that was smallish and quick last year. What did we do??….make them into a power blocking line rather than a zone blocking one. That was not what they were, you can’t make them into something they are not & be successful. You can’t be Bama without Bama players. If I had to guess, this was more Kirby than Pittman and Chaney. That with a freshman QB killed them last year …”Ball of Confusion”.
He also seems to be too involved with the defense…..and the defense got worse from the year before. Hell, maybe he does not have the staff to feel comfortable…but he put them together. The only one that I really feel comfortable with is Pittman. I certainly hope it improves this year, but I got to see it…not confident.

Oh yea did anyone see the article where they were questioning whether a QB could be too tall? This was an NFL thing but I was thinking of Eason and how he seems to have a long throwing motion. The article was saying that tall QB are sometimes awkward and have long throwing motions.
