It’s scrimmage time again.

Georgia is set for its second scrimmage today, and it sounds like the defense has to adjust to Malkom Parrish’s absence and the offense has to adjust to Isaiah Wynn’s return.

The scuttlebutt appears to be that the defense had the upper hand in the first scrimmage (and throughout preseason camp, for that matter), so I’ll be curious to hear if the two personnel changes have much of an effect.

Just a hunch/feeling…..but still say Fromm ends up starting before the season is over. DRGAS who it is, just get the job done….

    • if he does it will be because of injury to Eason, it won’t be because he beats Eason out, not implying that Fromm isn’t a very gifted QB because he is, but he is behind

“Fortuitous Fromm”…..nah, if he does indeed beat him out, it will be because he runs the offense better. Eason does not hold the ball long enough to get injured (2nd, 3rd, 4th option), he just locks on to the first option and releases…😏

The truth is, he did the things you describe… last year.
You don’t know whether or not he has improved in that or any other area, so unless you’re an all-knowing oracle of quarterback knowledge, give the kid the benefit of the doubt, dude.
Admittedly, I am concerned about his level of development as well.
But since last year, I’ve only seen him play in a scrimmage on G-Day.
I’ll wait until I see him play in a couple of real games this year before forming any opinions about his ability, or inability, to lead this team.

Behind what a guy that was gave a job that he did not earn. If anyone really believes that Eason won that job I have Beach front property for sale in TYTY.

If it happens, we’re in deep doo-doo again since it means Eason has been hurt. Fromm will be a good one, for sure. But we don’t need another throwaway season to help develop a true freshman QB.

While possible, and the 2 scrimmages would have to give him a clear edge, I feel Eason has earned the right to, almost certainly, start the first 2-3 games. If by then Eason hasn’t shown a major uptick, we could see a change before the conference schedule begins. I understand we will be better off if Eason hasn’t gotten over his problems but I don’t understand the people digging in so hard if we don’t see better QB play by then.

For all Eason’s pre-signing rating and obvious arm strength, we were middle of the pack last year at QB play in the East, must less the total conference and nationally. It just wasn’t an acceptable level, and one that will not get us to where we need to be. He might be able to make 2-3 throws that other can’t; he also missed several opportunities to make throws/decisions that everyone else could have hit. Maybe the lights go on in the decision making area, but the accuracy and not getting panicked part still has to be there. And I am not saying that Fromm will be without flaws, certainly it will, but we have to know the best guy is on the field as we drive for Atlanta and there is just no way for us to know the answer. I don’t just mean we don’t know, the coaches likely don’t know either. To say we would be in trouble if Fromm wins the starting job is asinine, there were many freshmen QBs who outperformed our freshman last year, how can you say we don’t have one of those in Fromm? I will agree it would be better, and more comforting, if Eason is improved and we don’t need to use Fromm at anything other than mop up duty. I am just not ready to think we only have one option, and that one option has yet to look like his HS performance projected. It wouldn’t be the first 5 star to not take that next step. Seems myopic to not see more than one player/way to get this done. Given that we are only a play away from needing the backup QB to perform anyway it seems odd that people would throw the new guy off the bus.

From all reports he has looked capable thus far, just thankful we have him. QB play for the past two years has been disappointing, we cannot afford another. Projections from the talking heads is they expect Eason to be the 6th, or 7th, best QB in the SEC this year. May not be correct but with the Bama, Arky, Mizzou, Miss State, AU, SC, and perhaps Ole, Miss, FU, or KY QBs ahead, or equal to, Eason, do you want our guy to not be better? And then, he could be the 2nd or 3rd best, so who knows? I want two guys ready in case one stumbles, and I think we have two that could be in the top third of the conference which is a lot better than last season, or the one before that. All I am suggesting is backing off handing anyone the reigns prematurely, let’s earn it on the field.

Agree…nice post. BTW, I looked a few months ago & I believe he was rated 6th or 8th best freshmen last year (nationally). Forget how many were below him, but it could not have been many. QB performance was our biggest issue last year imo.

Should be “if Eason has gotten over his problems” in the first paragraph.

2400 yards in year 1 , 16 Td’s to 8 int , behind the worst one of the worst o lines in the sec and one of the worst receiving groups in the sec and nick Chubb on one leg. I remember people saying Hutson Mason was better than Murray. Eason will be the Qb the entire way. Get on board

Are we favored? Just no injuries, please.

And I’m saying the offense is struggling to run the ball because of our all-world DL.

I am hoping…for no more serious injuries. Awfully warm day again, players get tired and lose focus and speed. Really need to get a look at some DB alignments after Parrish went down, heard LeCounte is getting a start at safety today. We have a lot competition at several spots, should be lots of intensity.

If Parrish is hurt, I don’t understand why Kirby can’t just come out and say so.

He has a broken bone in his foot and had surgery. There is no secret about that part. Haven’t heard which bone but he is out for a few weeks. Reports had him out for at least the first 2-3 games, perhaps 1-2 two weeks more. Bad loss for us at a spot which is one we don’t have a lot of backup experience.

I don’t get all the Eason-bashing. I wonder if some of you guys are serious or just trolling. The young man played as a true stud last year, considering it was his true freshman year and he had maybe the second or third-worst OL in the conference in front of him.

He has everything going for him. Not saying Fromm can’t be even better and do even more for the team – only time will tell (and I’ve never seen him play) – but I know there is absolutely zero chance of him starting this year barring injury to Eason or Eason suffering some phenomenal collapse over a multi-game stretch.

…and add to Eason’s horrible OL, the fact that his OC didn’t know what he was doing on 3rd-and-short, he didn’t have a single stellar receiver, and his defense and special teams handicapped him all year long with some of the worst starting field position imaginable.

I think there are at least a couple of posters on GTP that are passive/ aggressively attempting to promote their favorite QB. Using euphemistic criticisms of Eason that are shallowly buried in their language, they attempt to make us nod our heads in agreement..”yss yes. Eason isn’t very good”. Bullshit. What they are missing is that Fromm is likely number 3…If Eason falters, Ramsey will also need to falter before we see Fromm. Fromm is a talent, but so is JE…and it’s possible that a now mature Ramsey could be what we all expected a few years ago. It would be wonderful if he were. We’ll just have to see how it plays out. Best scenario is for Eason to be very good. He probably will be.

I don’t get it either. The kid was so handicapped by all the reasons already defined in this thread. Freshman, OL, WR, and OC. I believe the OC handicap may have been the most significant. And no, I don’t discern if the issue was Chaney or Kirby, the kid was handicapped by the play calling. It was painfully obvious they were making calls that did not allow for this kid to rely on his experience and strengths.

I believe that if the play calling is addressed and his OL becomes serviceable at a minimum, he will make a significant jump in performance.

  5. For everyone who was gnashing their teeth over recruiting, don’t look now, but Kirby has got things rolling this week for 2018. Another in-state blue chip commitment (and early entrant) today.

Oh, I was one of those teeth-gnash-ers. This is good to see. Jackson moves us into the top 25. We have 2 OLs, Hill and Salyer, interested and if we pull Fields we’ll leap several more spots. If Kirby can bring in classes like this on the ‘down’ years and top 5 classes on the good years, we should seriously start threatening the upper powers…provided we can coach the talent. Anyone know how many schollys we can offer this class?
