If you’re a Georgia fan feeling a little sorry for yourself…

… just imagine what Greg McGarity’s experiencing this morning.  It’s not just the blowout on the Plains — don’t forget those extra donations to get your SECCG tickets, suckers! — or Miami’s destruction of a Notre Dame team that Georgia squeaked by that’s disheartening, it’s that he’s going to have the Richt narrative thrown in his face by the national media at least until the outcome of the ACC championship game.  Or maybe later.

That’s a shame.

No, it’s not a shame. How does that saying go, “You reap what you sow”?
BTW i am happy for Coach Richt. We deserved a fresh start, and he did too.

I always was proud of Richt while he was here, but I wasn’t sorry to see him leave after the subpar teams we had the last few years. I’m a little chapped to see him go this long without the kind of dipshittery we used to see at least once a year. Kinda hoping Clemson knocks them around some.

40 wins his last 4 years was not that bad…no guarantee we get more than 10 wins this year.

You mean like not showing up against a rival. Only happened to Smart with Tenn, GT, and UF last year. Granted so far only Auburn this year, but GT is licking their chops.

You got a problem with the truth?? He brought it up, not me….just helping with the whole truth, not just part of it. Last year is “DEAD AND GONE…DEAD AND GONE” to me. This year is what matters, looks like we have improved imo…so far.

You have no idea who I am or how I think, you are just lazy and jump to conclusions….you come off sounding like an immature kid. I am beginning to think that you are stalking …..cause you sure want to disagree a lot. I summed up how currently feel about the game last night in the thread below ” Well, that sure sucked” . 4. So glad Richt is gone. Watching D Brown destroy our weak O Line last night just reminded me how much talent he let get away. And watching all those Georgia kids playing OL for them while they gashed us too.

Last night sucked but If Kirby keeps recruiting we will get there.

  6. If anything, what Richt is doing at Miami just proves further that McGarity was justified to fire him. He was not giving us his best effort.

OK, I’ll bite. I have a feeling that BM wasn’t helping him like they could or should have and he was tired of the BS from BM. Richt seemed burned out. I think he was doing the best he could under a somewhat hostile work environment. After a while it can be tiring to work where you feel you aren’t wanted. It might not be as good of a job as you would like to do but it can very well be the best you can do under the circumstances. In the end the separation was the best for both parties in the long run.

Agree 100% Eddie! Anyone who’s worked for a boss that inherited you and really doesn’t want you around, so they try their best to run you off can relate to the situation with Mark Richt. I think a change was needed for all parties and glad it’s worked out well for both CMR and UGA.

The Auburn loss is very disappointing, but I also remind myself that virtually no one expected us to win the CFP this year. Most people including myself expected us to win 9-10 games and the SEC East with a possible Big 4 bowl, which is exactly how things are tracking. Anything more is bonus at this point of our transformation, so I try keeping it in perspective.

Richt wasn’t exactly getting much support from the athletic department.

I think McGarity’s plan was to deprive Richt of resources until he had a bad enough season to justify firing him. But that didn’t happen, so McGarity et al just went ahead and fired him after a disappointing season. A very passive-aggressive way to manage.

A coach should receive 100% support from the administration right up to the moment he or she is fired.

I don’t understand why it’s a shame. The change was made and the bed is ours to lay in.
I’m very glad for Coach Richt one of the few good Christian guys coaching. Considering the many egomaniacs coaching and running college football today he’s a breath of fresh air. Rooting against good people is just not right.

There are some of us that have had continued concern about our offense all along. It is obvious in college football you need to have a diversified offense to win against elite teams. The lack of game practice on throwing the balk down the field , creative scheming with screens and draws and the undying love of slamming the ball in the middle of the line all point to a lack of understanding of the game today. No one is running against elite defenses without being able to do other creative schemes. We can still win out and get in, but it will take some turnovers and our defense showing up to play.

Some of that lack of diversity may be because of Fromm’s limitations. We for example, do not throw it over the middle and I think that’s because we don’t trust the true freshman to execute well there. Give him some years under his belt and I think you’ll see Georgia attempt a more passes and add more diversity to the mix.

DoubleDawg, I sat in the stands last night wondering why the vast majority of Fromm’s throws were to the sideline. You response above about the staff not trusting Fromm is one of the reasons I came up with as well. If there is another explanation I could not find it, outside of Fromm not looking in the middle of the field. Yes, the OL and DL were the main reasons for our loss last night. That being said, Fromm certainly did not do much to help matters out.

Pretty damned sure you are right, yesterday’s play calls looked a lot like last year. At this point of the season, Fromm isn’t exactly a freshman any longer. Time to trust him, rather get beat firing shots than leaving our gun in the holster. I have seen some pretty good throws in the middle, despite what old Chauncey from FU said.

This was a dishonorable loss. Two-loss Auburn shouldn’t have beaten the nation’s No. 1 team like this. (”We beat a really good team soundly,” said Malzahn, who’s not a bragger.) More to the point, the Bulldogs shouldn’t have allowed to happen.”

Reopening the Hartman Fund donation period for incremental revenue was more than just asinine – it was terminally stupid. The UGAA has taught the donor base to hedge our bets and see how things play out over the course of the season and THEN open up our wallets: “See, I don’t have to stroke a huge check in the spring! I’ll just throttle back my Hartman fund donation a bit and see where things stand midway through the season.”

    Incentives matter, y’all.

Of course, they did that going into the 2017-2018 donation cycle – the one predicating the season with a home schedule including Austin Peay, MTSU, UMass, etc.

    Good times, man.

That, and the run-first offense can have some issues when they meet the rare team that can stop the run. Bama survived, but ND and UGA had issues going to plan B. Not one of Chaney’s finer games (because I think Fromm can pass, Auburn’s secondary was their weak point, and it’s not like we didn’t have WRs/TEs to test that.)
Upside is there isn’t a d-line like that left on the schedule unless Auburn beats Bama in 2 weeks and we get a rematch.

Who gives a damn what CMR and the Canes do.
    Glad they won.
They were not in the discussion until Dawgs imploded on the Plains.
Chaney’s passing attack, playbook, personnel, and sets. You do not have to be the most physical to win. Ask Miami last night.
Chaney’s passing game. In all of D1 football, he ranks 111.
Says a lot about the OC.
They have done a good job with the RBs re plays and rotation. Not banged up this late in year.
Not sure about the Oline. How many snaps have those guys seen and their rotation. Wonder where they are this late in season, all those running plays, on the road for 4 SEC opponents.
We can thank CMR and his previous staff for leaving the O line roster bare and almost empty. Look at the roster.
You can not when championships without an offense, and the Dawgs are one dimensional.
Have two solid passing QBs. And not one team in the SEC fears them and the deep ball threat or quick outside throws.
The passing game is so simple, and easy to defend. Those guy don’t catch in games because they never see the ball enough.

    Not feeling sorry today.

Team has played well enough this season to still have the opportunity to win it all.

Team is in good shape physically and has two games to fix the issues along the lines.

They also need to get better at managing the clock and I’m not talking about Fromm. The end of the half looked a lot like last season. They let Auburn off the hook with less-than-aggressive play calling not exploiting the weakness in their secondary. Still a second-year head coach.

Eh. What bothered me was the coaching. Playing scared for a FG with a guy who isn’t the most reliable kicker in the world. No apparent adjustments at halftime. The just pure predictability and stubbornness by Chaney. All year every time Chubb is in the game you know he’s running it up the middle. Against shittier teams Chubb is strong enough to eventually break one. It was pretty obvious he wasn’t going to yesterday.

These Georgia guys had a great game yesterday. Unfortunately they do not wear the Red & Black.
#95 Dontavius Russell, DL, Jr., Carrolllton Ga
#5 Derrick Brown, DL, So, Sugar Hill Ga
#28 Trey Matthews, DB, Sr, Newnan Ga
    And then these two.
    #3 Marlon Davidson, DL, So,
#4 Jeff Holland, OLB, Jr. He destroyed Thomas and Kindley time after time.
    Where was our D line.
And how many more deep pass plays will Mel Tucker give up this year with his secondary. Plus there seemed to be more missed tackles in this game than before.
Kirby might want to get in the headset more when the defense is on the field.

Our worst case scenario is what?
My Kentucky friends are dreading Saturday. One’s exact wording was “We are going to be pillaged”—- So we win huge Saturday. Lose to Tech because it would be the most awful thing. Auburn, meanwhile, upsets Bama and we have a rematch with Auburn for the SECCG that we win. But we win with 2 losses and no Playoff appearance. Then the icing on the cake, Alabama slides into the 4th playoff spot with 1 loss. My Munson is showing.

    Like

    • Jared S.

      Yeah. That would be awful.

At this point, though, I think I’m pretty happy regardless what happens because I figured we’d be a 10-win team this year, and I figure we’ll get there no problem. Heck. Even if we lost to Tech and Auburn/Bama, we could still win a bowl and come out with 11 wins. I’d consider that amazing and unexpected (although hoped for) in Kirby’s second year.

Still reserving ultimate judgment till the end of 2018.
