I know I’m going to get destroyed for saying this here. From the beginning of this mess I’ve thought that Freeze is probably a person with a great heart that ended up going down a dark road. I’m sure he is going through a personal hell. I actually hope he comes out the other side of this debacle and does find redemption and success again.

I’m with the other doug on this one – dude is a total phony, and has been for years. Remember, there are all sorts of rumors about him going way back to his days at that private HS in Memphis, so its not like he just lost his way after achieving fame/fortune at Ole Miss. And the fact that he was so in your face about faith, morals, etc. makes everything even worse.
The guy rubbed me the wrong way from the very beginning, though i could never quite put my finger on as to why.

Has he also asked forgiveness for what happened with Tunsil? I feel for his wife and family. Real repentance does not happen on the paid speaking tour. I believe in redemption but don’t believe this is what is going on.

I actually want to believe in the decent person / dark road theory. But I am from Memphis and had tons of high school friends from briarcrest during his days there. The majority of opinions coming from those who had him as high school students are negative, and were before any of this even existed. Many of these people are also Ole Miss grads and I know of one briarcrest/ole miss grad who went as far as disowning rebel football because of Freeze’s presence at the helm. Just relaying what I heard.

Back in the day I was a backsliding baptist. The Pastor and Assistant Pastor were bad to show up unexpectedly at my abode, and much to their chagrin I would often be caught red-handed with a cold beer (Of course I always offered to share) and word got around that Ol’ Cowdog wasn’t quite first pew Baptist potential. Long story short, we parted ways and not on the best terms. I always felt a little guilty about it. Other things came to light down the road, and I sort of felt vindicated even though that is close to taking pleasure in other’s misfortune and I try to avoid that outside of college football.
The moral of this story? A couple of pious assholes made me feel like less than I was and turned out to be even bigger fuck-ups than me.
I have no use for small minded zealots. People like Hugh Freeze and his TV preacher ilk who use fear and guilt to manipulate others are no different than common thugs. They merely use a softer club.
I’ll go sit down now.
