It wouldn’t be spring football, part two…

… without some tasty Dawg porn, in this case, about the new quarterback (and, no, I’m not talking about Stetson Bennett).

Justin Fields ability to make plays with his feet is what differentiates him from players Georgia has trotted out at the quarterback position going back to D.J. Shockley.

Yet in his first couple of months on campus, it’s not his legs but his arm that teammates noticed during 7-on-7 work.

“He’s got a cannon,” tight end Isaac Nauta said of the freshman who was a five-star signee. “He’s a big physical kid.”

Added wide receiver Terry Godwin: “He’s got a nice arm. He’s a quarterback. We’re not going to recruit a guy who doesn’t have a good arm or anything like that.”

Nauta and the rest of the Georgia players will learn more about what Fields can do escaping a pass rusher or being used on a design run in the weeks ahead as Georgia opened spring practice on Tuesday.

“I’ve seen him through winter workouts and he can, run, too,” Nauta said, “but what’s impressed me has been his arm.”

You can go take that cold shower now.

I have no idea what is the best way to manage this “problem.” I guess you just say Eff it and unleash them both. Maybe this is the one time you convince everyone that the QB is just another “role player”, where we play anyone ready and able to contribute.

Rumor is (started by me just now) is Fromm will transfer and redshirt a year at Bama to be next in line behind their new QB.

Rumor is (started by me just now) Fields, after finding out Fromm was working with the first team on the first day of practice, plans to transfer Alabama and replace Tua in the second half of the MNC game against Georgia.

Fromm is a great backup QB. Eason should have returned to the starting job once he was healthy. Fromm proved that he is not going to win a national title. I can not remember who put this stat out there, maybe ESPN9 or FoxSport Mid Southeast 3, but if a QB fails to wins national title during his true freshman year as a starter he will never win a national title.

My big takeaway is that it sounds like Nauta is coming around to the system and embracing the idea of competition at all spots. He’ll be a beast if he grabs the starter spot and we get him the ball more often.

Technically, I think Murray had pretty good wheels too. He might not be as mobile as Fields, but I’m not sure he was that less mobile than DJ during DJ’s last year when he was the full-time QB and not the change-of-pace guy.

For those of you interested, you should check out the show QB1. You have to stream it but it is pretty easy to get via PC and the go90 app is free if you want to go that route. The first first season follows Fromm and two other quarterbacks through their senior seasons in high school and the current second season follows Fields and two others through theirs. They have good in game footage and the game Fields plays against Rome you can see him face Adam Anderson. You can get an idea of Fields athleticism. You will also get an idea of immature Martel (who is at tOSU now) was in high school. Corch must have expanded on his top 1% of the top 1%.
