Today, in where are they now?

Damien Gary is the new head football coach at Dougherty High School.

Bet he can teach a few kids about the return game.

He is one of the shiftier guys we ever had. The Hobnail Boot catch doesn’t happen if he didn’t make two guys miss entirely by himself and pick up a first down stopping the clock on Greene’s first pass of the drive.

Poor guy doesn’t know what he’s in for at Dougherty High. Or maybe he does….They haven’t been relevant in over 20 years, and are one of the worst schools in that city and county.

Things are so bad there, in fact, that they had to shut down Albany High last year….The only school in the city with any real football tradition. They were a real power back in the 50s and early 60s. Used to give mighty Valdosta High a run for their money.

Lee County, defending 6A state champs, only 15 minutes down the road. That’s where all the Dougherty County kids are headed.

He played in the old timers game this past spring. Still pretty fast…

I love these type of posts. We hardly ever get to know what happens to our gridiron ‘heros’ after the game is over for them. – Thanks!

My favorite play with him was against SC at the end of the game. Lou Holtz when for a on side kick and he took it to the house. Lou Holtz after the game went up and started yelling at CMR. Hey Lou, have your guys stop him. On a side note SC never hire a coach that looks like your mascot. Glad Gary is the head coach .DGD!!!
