Welcome to Grantham

The first forty-one seconds of this video clip are so déjà vu, they’ll make you quiver a little.

Florida hosts Colorado State this week.  Boy, would I love to be a fly on the wall for some of Mike Bobo’s prep sessions.

“New scheme blues” my ass. Those sons of bitches had better get their mind around the fact that if Grantham’s still there five years from now, it won’t be a lick better.

Was thinking the same thing. Practice will fix this? LOL.

Even when he has 6-7+ future pros starting on his defense, it still won’t be any better either. I remember in that Florida game in 2012 when they were undefeated but we won 17-9, they had somebody wide open just like that late in the game on a busted assignment but Jarvis Jones sacked the QB before he could hit it.

I remember that. Gary Danielson had just.gotten something snarky out of his mouth and then that happened. I didn’t post on the Gary thread yesterday so I will say it here that I hope the fleas of a thousand camels invest his crotch. Can’t stand that guy.

“Granthamitt” is just too smart for his players.

      Amen.

And it would be gross negligence on Chaney’s part if we don’t get a least a couple of cheap first downs (or scores) while his defense is still flapping their arms. I hope one comes with 9 players on the field with the other two are still running around the sidelines, just like when we played Louisville.

    3rd and Grantham!

Ugh, I just broke into a cold sweat remembering those days. I have a clear memory of standing at my seat in 326 screaming at the top of my lungs to the damn defense to stop staring at each other and get lined up. Five or six times a game, we’d have LBs and DBs still standing there arms out to the side looking at the sideline unaware even that the ball had been snapped as a receiver ran past them.

Forget which game….but never forget one game when they were trying to make defensive adjustments when it was too loud to hear. We had to use hand signals, the DB’s admitted later they did not understand the hand signals from our linebacker. Didn’t have complete confidence in Granthamitt before then, but I lost all confidence that day.

Kinda like the 5 int day against SC that Donnan left Quincy in…or, the day that Vanderbilt (’94?) ran all over our asses. The team gave up that day, Final nail for Goff imo…..DGD though, always appreciated him.

      • That infamous Vandy game back in ’94….there was a distinct reason as to why the team quit that day.

As for Goff, back then he certainly was not DGD and helped run the program into the ground.

Matter of opinion, mine…..he was a DGD.

Goff is a good guy. He was not ready for the dream job he was offered.

“Not ready”??…not gonna argue that, but he was also still probably dealing with the “Jan Kemp affair” back then.

His ’92 team was 5 points away from being undefeated. It ain’t like did not try. Never forget one of the Georgia Tech games when a fight was about to break out…..he took his players and slung around like a bunch of rag dolls, made them go back to the sidelines….mixed it up, in the middle, no regard for his welfare. He was a DGD as a player & as a coach imo. Always will be to me….

I was there in 92 still have 100 year of football cup, and was in attendance for those 5 points. Goff recruited well, and as mentioned tried to do the right thing.

I was not trying to take a shot at him. He took his dream job. I think he needed more experience to be a successful head coach, and it cost him in the end. He especially had problems hiring a DC.

Understood, didn’t take it that way….but some do (“shots”) & I feel a need to say otherwise.

BTW, if my memory serves me correct, there were a couple of seasons where we just had an inordinate amount of injuries. Goff just seemed to be snake bit.

Would like to have that ’94 game back against UT, was also there for that one……Heath Shuler’s coming out party, “God bless him”.. 😏. Hate those bastids until this day, lived thru those 9 straight wins while I was in Nashville.

No problem, I don’t think our views are that far apart.

We can always thank Goff for doing UGA’s part in keeping the SEC’s winning streak alive against Ohio St which is even better with Herbie at QB for the Buckeye’s

9 in a row until Bama ruined it. I don’t count on he Arkansas loss, as OSU was in trouble with the “law” back then. Besides, the game shows as “vacated”

Yep, Goff remains a DGD to me. I still remember his last game against Tech, when it was obvious he was going to be let go. We were up on Tech near the end of the game, yet he still had the team throwing TDs and such. Heh heh, anybody that wants to RUTS on the nerds is fine by me.

        • The Homecoming rumor/theory lives on. It’s certainly possible, but we can’t discount the possibility that Goff was just woefully unprepared.

It was maddening to see the 2013 Defense with all the new starters look as confused against Nebraska in the bowl game (99 yard TD pass) as they did against Clemson in game 1. Hope he stays there for a long time.

Goff=Peter Principle to me. Good guy, solid recruiter, and acceptable position coach. Want to blame someone for those years, and his failure, take your shot at Vince’s succession planning. He pulled the plug suddenly (to everyone else) and had no plan as to who should have been groomed, or contacted. Out efforts that year were brought to mind when I watched TN last year….with months to get it done for them for them. I think we both made the same mistake settling for someone with no HC experience and a skill set that seemed lacking to everyone but the decision maker wanting it to be over. (I also think both Vince and Foolmer wanted someone they could control, although Pruitt may end up wrestling in the hall with Phat Phil before that ends.)

The best part of this is that Grantham is now at his 4th school and what 8th year? Thus, if he has not figured out how to relate his scheme to kids in a reasonable fashion by now, how do they expect it to improve?

Looks like the same old “commo” problem that Grantham had long ago. I can remember when some bloggers wanted him to be HC. The upraised palms and arm waving has now been introduced to a set of players much dumber than the UGA players were long ago. Amazing that they can’t adopt more modern communications schemes like waving a frying pan on the sideline.

And the FU defense continues to be touted by a few pundits as better than most. Wow! An old meme that died two years ago and continues to be repeated.

IIRC, we were without a DC for at least a month before Richt hired Grantham. Richt said he would be patient and wait for the right guy (maybe after Kirby turned us down?). While Grantham wasn’t as bad a DC as Schitty was an OC, he wasn’t great. But was that really the best we could get at the time?

I’m calling it now, the CSU Fighting Bobos improve to 2-0 in SEC play this weekend. I just hope they don’t beat the Gators so bad that they fire Grantham mid-season. I want these dawgs to take a bite out of him for years to come!

Grantham’s problem is that his playbook(s) are 2 9-inch, 3-ring binders, with a different play drawn up on every one. Way too much for any college player to be able to get their head around. Not sure of Bobo’s current condition/state, but as someone alluded to above, Bobo should be salivating at the opportunity to break out the 64 count Crayola set this week…

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Florida better get used to seeing this over and over and over for as long as 3rd and Grantham defenses stumble around confused in the swamp.

I had lunch with a Florida fan a couple weeks ago who was convinced they would challenge us for the East. I explained Grantham as politely as I could. He got depressed pretty quickly and I’m too polite to check in with him now

Found this post on a Gator board. Thought you might like it Senator. “I have re-watched the UK game and I am not sure that what I saw on defense was a lack of talent. I saw more of a bunch of kids that didn’t know how to line up and all be on the same page. They are in a new scheme. They are figuring things out still. It is so loud in the Swamp that the defense couldn’t communicate with each other to get on the same page especially on 3rd down. They were confused.”
