He doesn’t care for Auburn.

Can’t say I’m a Danny Sheridan fan, but this had me chuckling.

In December, Malzahn and Auburn agreed to a seven-year, $49 million extension. Malzahn’s previous contract at Auburn was for $4.725 million annually through 2020.

“It’s mediocrity at Auburn over the last four years,” Sheridan said. “It looks like they are going to lose three or four more games this year.

“The only person who would give a coach like that, with a mediocre record, is a president. A president has no business giving a contract to him. His agent, Jimmy Sexton, should be in the hall of fame for that contract.

“No president that I know of should ever make that decision because it isn’t his territory. Only a neophyte, an ignorant – ignorant being ignorant of the facts – president would make a deal like that. He isn’t stupid, just ignorant of athletics. He should be able to approve everything, but not make the deal.

That contract is almost Paul hewatt-like in its scope. Can’t believe Sexton didn’t get the perpetual rollover, though.

I am also no Danny Sheridan fan, but I agree with his analysis here.

At this time I will remind the world of Danny’s preseason prediction for Georgia in 2017: “Not going to win 10 games I’ll be surprised if they win 9”.

I assume he meant regular season…So what happened when they won 11? Did his head explode?

    Good job, Danny.

    • To be fair, nobody, and I mean nobody thought UGA would win 10+. I predicted 12 wins and a close loss to Bama in the SEC in the summer of ’17, and I was labeled a drug addict, a loon, and anything else you want to throw in there for being totally delusional.

The monthly post. How many times are you going to blow this trumpet? No one cares what you luckily predicted.

I know of very few who respect Sheridan as an analyst, I certainly don’t, but this one is on the mark. But then, it is like shooting fish in a barrel. Since Charlie Tuna Weiss, has anyone bilked more out of the system while adding so little? Malzahn is way over his head; rapid rise from HS football didn’t allow much time for folks to do their homework or think this through. We can thank Mitch Mustang for this as I recall, but I doubt Barn fans are as grateful as the rest of us are.

  7. Funny how he said they can beat Georgia (even though they are not as good) because ‘they have nothing to lose’…if that is not a different flavor of ‘you are going to get their best shot’ , then I don’t know what is. I’m sure ‘they have nothing to lose’ factors into the equations at Vegas.

Aurburn doesn’t have as strong of a financial structure as some of the very top schools. They put themselves behind the eight ball, more than once, by eating some buyouts. While they’ve shown a willingness to do that, this one may be more than they can swallow. I’m good with that. It’s on them for giving a high school football coach that type of contract.

turns out that paying off multiple head coaches and coordinators simultaneously is expensive. They’re bad at the maths down there.

If memory serves, there was a time in the late ’90s when Auburn was paying four coaches simultaneously (Dye, Bowden, Oliver, and Tuberville). They just seem to love paying people not to work down there. Come to think of it, maybe I should apply for a job at AU.

Money talks but he could’ve gotten rich in his home state too I bet.

Arkansas is a harder job than Auburn, same expectations worse recruiting base.

Gus’s seat isn’t as warn as many in the media would have you believe.

Heck no it’s not hot. It would cost waaaayyy to much to warm it. So the wartigleplainsmen are stuck with ‘im like a Chevy sedan they bought for list price cause the salesman said it looked cool.
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch.

Danny could have gotten similar insight from Auburn’s message boards any time in the last few weeks. It seems to be the current drift of the reigning intelligentsia there.

I tried to click my way into a popular thread called “F*** MALZAHN!!!” to learn more, but darn it, this was Premium Content.
