Right play. Wrong ball carrier again.

Safe to say Coach Cheney never took physics.

Even I, sitting in the nosebleed Dawg section at the other end of the stadium, could tell there was no way that Fromm was gonna score on that 3rd down sneak.

  2. Those comments were squarely aimed at Cheney, and he was saying something like, “f***ing no” when Cheney I presume was trying to talk him into going for it on 4th down. I also presume Smart reminded him about the failure to score in the previous 3 tries.

Right after that clip, they showed Cheney in the booth and he looked totally dispondent yet pissed at the same time.

They need to figure this shit out.
AND. I don’t blame Kirby one bit. Anybody wants to go for it on fourth needs to show they can get the job done once in a while.

Maybe at one time, not so certain now …unless it is to retire. Unless he is prone to cut off his nose to spite his face, or inner-staff politics went completely to Hell. I can’t imagine a better situation awaits than the stockpile of talent he has at a nationally trending program smack in the middle of hotbed recruit territory.

Is that really true? I know they kind of joined us as a package but seems like i’ve Read that Pittman kinda likes his set up – getting paid a lot, has the tools to be really successful, etc. Seems to me he’d be just as concerned about Chaney as the rest of us

I agree, isn’t a package deal any longer in my mind. Pittman is a great position, up his pay substantially, and make the best decision at OC without fear.

I still think the alignment, motion, and personnel issues are being undervalued in this goal line/short yardage situation. Have to add in the OL injuries’ impact here. You had a new center in place, and were missing Big Ben in both cases the past two weeks. They will get it fixed, but it was disappointing on the earlier drive with a half yard to make, and again on the goal line.

Feel like this is a message board myth. Why would Pittman, one of the top offensive line coaches in the country, leave Athens/UGA just to stubbornly hitch his wagon to a mediocre OC? Seems like Pittman was handling himself fine alone in Arkansas when Cheney was at Pitt.

Yeah 37.2 points per game just isn’t going to get it done. (Sarcasm font)

Yeah 6th most efficient offense in the country with a rotating cast at OL and people want to fire the OC.

            People are idiots

Yes, that was my take too. Cheney was shut down in full preach mode.

The replay of Chaney shows him throwing his hands up in disbelief right after the play, before Kirby lights into him. That leads me to believe Fromm audibled into the sneak. Not a great decision with a true freshman backup center lined up directly in front of a 340 nose tackle.

That or he, like everyone else, is in disbelief that the offense failed to punch it in from the 1 again. The issue isn’t the play call or the ball carrier. This is simple physics where the DL is selling out against the run and getting underneath our OL. No movement == running in to a wall of humanity.

I saw the same thing. Chaney acted like the play he called was either not run or the wrong personnel was in the game. Remember it has always been Kirby talking about imposing your will and physicality. When we get down close spread them out and have your way with them. Our Oline is too big and tall to get low enough to push. Remember on one yard to go it is low man wins.

This video cuts off a lot more of his tirade. I think you’re right, he’s first yelling f* no! about going for it on 4th down, but then pauses to give some pep talk to the O players coming off the field, but then he was back to screaming about the whole set and dropped at least 2 m*f’er’s that I saw on TV. I posted about this right after the game and assumed it was Chaney taking the heat.

At least Kirby isn’t being complacent about this problem. I was concerned HE was the problem. Now we definitely know it’s Chaney so it WILL be fixed one way or another—just maybe not this season.

Yeah, but I suspect it’s Kirby that’s beating his head against the “impose our will” wall on the goal line. I read Saban saying that they weren’t an offense that could line up big and push people around. They have to spread the other team out. Maybe Kirby has one more lesson to learn from the master.

Yeah, but who gets to yell into Kirby’s headset when he makes boneheaded game management decisions? Ranting like a maniac at your assistants when you know the cameras are trained on you starts to look like an unchecked ego than fire/passion/intensity. Managers obviously have to provide critical feedback to their employees and an SEC sideline is understood to be a meat grinder for staff and players. However, players aren’t going to buy into his COMPOSURE principle if he struggles to demonstrate it himself on the sideline.

Really – you actually think Kirby plays to the camera.

Not saying that, just that Muschamp-esque tirades are probably best conducted off-camera. Salty language is anatural part on any sideline and Kirby’s brand of “coaching ’em hard” is key to our recent success. It’s just selfish and uncomposed to carry on that way into a headset when you know all eyes are on you. However, he’s only in his third year as a HC, so it may just be a temporary thing. First world problems to be sure😁

Chaney takes a lot of heat but he is running the offense that Kirby wants run…Bama’s offense really took off once Saban gave his OC more autonomy to run a more diverse offense..i think Chaney and Fromm excel in a hurry up offense but the HC won’t have it

Exactly. Kirby is that mad because HIS system ain’t working. Kirby wants to be a team that just takes a step forward at the snap and gets a yard. It’s not there.

This is a two-headed monster. He doesn’t currently have the Oline to impose their will on a defense. If/when we do, things should improve. But calling plays that have little chance of succeeding is just stupid.

It isn’t the Oline per se, it is that we kept bringing inside all our WRs and the attendant DBs/OLs who just crashed all 9 plays last week and this. Then you run that handoff where the QB kind of takes a little skip step; it delays the quick hitter. That gives the crashing D time to get there. Watch, they kept getting Holyfield or Swift around the legs 2+ yards out. That isn’t the Oline personnel’s fault really. That’s a crashing DB/LB every time.

It isn’t a read play, it is a power play. Which is why that Fullback dive works so well, but we don’t have that guy anymore!

Do you think Chaney and Smart discuss what Smart wants to do in a goal line situation? I do, and I think Chaney is calling exactly what Smart wants. Smart is so frickin’ mad because it ain’t there.

Give Pitman another year and I think it is there. Give Chaney a mobile QB, or perhaps allow Fromm to run, and it’s there.

I’m guilty myself. Maybe it’s that we’re still use to, Dick Cheney, or perhaps we really don’t care because we don’t expect him to be around much longer with those goal line runs.

They officially changed the no pushing the pile rule this year. Why aren’t teams putting 3 linemen in the backfield and letting them push the QB in? You can’t tell me it wouldn’t work. There’s a reason that it was outlawed in the first place.

Alabama will eat us up on any goal line stand. Also Alabama will sack Fromm at least 4-6 times in the pocket. We better have Field ready. Only a duel threat QB will beat Alabama!!!!
