A quiet February

Whatever drama is left for Georgia’s 2019 class, it’s probably going to come more from whatever Smart is holding back for a graduate transfer or two than tomorrow’s action.  Here’s a rundown of what he might be watching in the transfer portal right now.

Interesting read. I like the idea of the 6-5 receiver and another TE. The running back situation is weird. We have lots of talent on board already but everyone seems uneasy. Maybe it’s the lack of down-hill-runner depth and Zamir White coming off two knee tears. I’m sure most are waiting to see the mental impact it has had on him.
It seems our talent sets up well for the running backs to be used as receivers…which may not be bad since our WR group as been diminished. I like that Kirby never stops beating the bushes. It’ll be interesting to see who we get this late.

Another receiver certainly seems a need, but the dude from Miami dropped more passes than he caught from what little I saw of their games. Bricks for hands.

Why does it feel like other top programs (Clemson last year notwithstanding) have class depth at QB and for some reason UGA never manages to achieve it? It’s not that they’re all stacked with 5* kids, but if the starter goes down there are a couple back-ups who can reasonably take snaps without the world exploding. It’s like we’re always one bad hit away from disaster

    • Because they do. They aren’t ignoring a 4 star QB who has been committed to them for a year just to go after another 4 star they know little about. They aren’t the 4th or 5th to offer important kids, especially in state.

They aren’t allowing rivals to run rampant in their backyard. Carrollton has 2 of the best LBs in the state and they were both offered by Clemson before Georgia ever bothered with them. I guess Kirby was too busy on the national stage. Decent class but Richt had decent classes.

I’m thrilled to be at a point where the composite number two class is considered “decent “.

        • Richt had similar highly ranked classes but we still ended up thin at key positions. We still missed on great instate talent. Fans still had similar replies.

I was under the impression that being a bridesmaid wasn’t good enough.

Eason, Fromm, Fields in starter/backup positions. How is that any different from Bama, Clemson, ND, tOSU and a few others? And all of them need to reload for this next season due to transfers, perhaps proving you can’t keep starting calibre talent sitting on the bench for more than one season anyway.

Do people not remember things? Georgia had one bad hit to start the 2017 season, started a freshman all year and made the national title game. Last year, if the bad hit had come, they’d have played another true freshman who was rated as the best QB to come out in years. This year, they’ll have a solid four-star freshman who will have been on campus all offseason. I don’t understand the doom and gloom from some of you people.

  4. Looks like we’re gonna end this recruiting cycle kinda like we ended the last two seasons.

It’s hardly surprising. It would seem they liked Dwan Mathis better, and Plumlee not submitting an LOI in December kind of pointed to where it was headed.

Last I heard we could only sign 25 but we still have recruiting geniuses on this board that want us to sign every, good not great, player from Georgia. News alert we are recruiting nationally now. Why should Kirby be held to “Georgia only” players. Clemson has won a CFP Trophy last year and you guys think we should still beat them out for in state players?
