His work here is done. For now.

Like a boss.

Grantham was the highest-paid assistant in Gators football history at $1.5 million per season. After a down year for Florida’s defense in 2017, he elevated it 49 spots (from 69th to 20th) nationally in scoring defense. As such, coach Dan Mullen and athletic director Scott Stricklin awarded him with a $300,000 raise and one-year contract extension, which were announced Thursday. Based on 2018 salaries, that would make Grantham at $1.8 million one of the five highest-paid assistants in college football.  [Emphasis added.]

When you know the play and they know you know the play and they still let you run the play… well, that’s when you know you’ve really got game.

The only thing that worries me about Grantham staying at FU is the minute possibility that he might find a few players with enough active brain cells to actually understand & run his defense.

Mullen, rubbing his head at breakfast after a three day binge of chasing booze with Gatorade…
“Say that again. Not so loud and slower. I did what?”

Amazing that people look at his top 20ish defenses, in good years, see all the frantic looking and searching for answers from the players in big moments. They see all the emotional blitzing and how predictable he becomes when he gets rattled and think that he is one of the top defensive coaches in the country at any level.

And he has a reputation of always being on the hunt for the next offer/job.

Yeah I don’t get it either. Makes me feel for the wives of opportunistic coaches like him. Do they just always keep a suitcase packed? “Hey honey, we’re moving to Louisville! Wait I mean Starkville. You’ll um love it. Okay we’re moving to Gainesville, for a while this time I swear.”

Senator – If I were a Florida fan reading your last paragraph, I would comment something along the lines of “yeah, just like last year when the dawgs ran 9 plays inside the 5 and couldn’t punch it in?” To which you’d reply, scoreboard.

Grantham is just setting up his next move….he seldom leaves after a single season. If you track his history, he has one or two seasons left at Florida….if he can find a way to keep Derek Dooley’s offense in check somewhat, he might make three seasons. You can take it to the bank that at some point, he will find greener pastures elsewhere.
