And it certainly didn’t reflect poorly on Justin or any member of his family. However, that documentation did provide support for the issuance of a waiver under the NCAA’s rules.”

On your question, no way. Justin isn’t going to authorize Mars to release a copy of the appeal application under privilege. The NCAA will say they don’t release without the approval of all parties involved. AnOSU and UGA will hide behind FERPA regulations and say they can’t release the information without Justin’s approval.
So just like the 2015 season from the Bama game to the day after the Fech game, this will be speculated upon for a long time.

Well that’s good… And to Field’s credit, he made that clear once the process was finished. And pointed out that his sister attends UGA and plays for the woman’s softball team. But it does beg the question… How on Earth did he get the waiver? Because that (to our knowledge) is the only real card he had to play.

The reason he got the waiver is because you no longer need a reason to get a waiver. Don’t expect some lawyer and the NCAA to openly admit it. Mars may have told the NCAA he was going to sue them for something, anything, if they don’t grant waivers to his clients. He’s become the go-to guy for waivers for a reason.

Look, Fields wasn’t happy here, most likely because he wasn’t starting. All the speculation in the press about why he would get a waiver was just that – speculation. Neither Fields, his lawyer or the NCAA are saying why he got it, and Fields released a statement saying everything at UGA was fine. So why are we worrying about this now? He’s gone, let him go and let’s worry about our own stuff.
At this point I’m not sure what Fields or his lawyer could say to soothe some of you.

At least to me, the stink of it is that the sister is still at the school that acted so egregious to her brother. I have no doubt that Mars came up with a good “argument” and I will concede that it could be completely independent of the sister’s experience at UGA. But that the NCAA couldn’t connect those does (or did but still granted the waiver) when it is 99% clear that the only reason Fields transferred was playing time. Maybe its a way to level the field in the whole “coaches can do it” argument and fair enough. But to me, this one particular case doesn’t seem to pass the logic smell test.

I doubt that … otherwise, why would 90,000+ cheer for him every time he stepped on the field if people didn’t “like him in the first place”?
I wanted him to stay because I thought he was going to develop into a darn good QB, but that wasn’t going to happen. In the absence of that, he could have made the exact same statement in January he made following the approval of his appeal about UGA. I don’t understand why his attorney didn’t do that.

I wasn’t talking about “90,000+”, I was referring to SOME posters here, that seemed as if they had a problem with Justin because he dared to challenge Fromm in first place.
Why would he be happy sitting behind Fromm for 3 years when he is clearly talented enough to be playing elsewhere?
IMO, he or his lawyer don’t owe any of us an explanation for anything. He played the hand he was dealt and gamed the system to his benefit.

Maybe – just maybe, mind you – The argument for the waiver was based on previous successful waivers. A “what’s good for the goose” tactic that showed the NCAA was backed into a corner and the threat of further legal action if they didn’t grant it. Maybe Mars had knowledge of previous cases that helped his cause?

Like I said before, Fields’s and Martell’s case were virtually identical. Spoiled children who didn’t get they’re way. At least Martell had his head coach leave. Fields had nothing.

Sometimes it isn’t the cards visible to you that make you throw your hand in. The NCAA didn’t have to know what hole card Mars had hidden from view, they had heard enough of the drum beats in the past to know what was coming if they didn’t fold. I am guessing the he alleged unfulfilled promises during the recruitment, and no one will ever know if they were true or not. There are no key people who will push for that door to be opened at this point, mission accomplished.

Him wanting Fields to play is kind of the second most important part of the situation by about 10,000 miles.
You might think Fields is an entitled prima donna, and he might well be, but it was Sasser being an idiot that gave him a fig leaf that he then used to avoid burning a year of eligibility.
