Today, in adventures in Dawg porn

If you’re wondering how good Georgia’s depth is, Seth Emerson ($$) has a working theory that the Walter Grant “experiment” is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

It’s crazy good.  Examples:

  • “Sam Pittman has recruited so well that he has eight linemen who have either started already or were five-star prospects.”
  • Inside linebacker:  “That’s five potential starters for only two spots. And even if it’s a four-man committee, as it was last year, someone very good is going to be be omitted.”
  • Cornerback:  “Let’s include the nickel back for the sake of expanding the field here. That’s three starting spots, and a two-deep of six guys.”

These aren’t just cases of warm bodies, either.  The roster is loaded with four- and five-star recruits across the board.  Like I said, crazy.

Meanwhile in Florida, Grantham’s not subbing anybody.

No kidding. Dude refuses to sign DL, and it’s about to really hurt them starting next year and maybe this one. Clearly he didn’t learn his lesson from his time at UGA. Signing tons of LBs is great and all, but if you expect them to hold their own against top OL’s while making up for a DL defeciency, you’re in for a rude awakening.

Would love UF to be in the position we were in at the WLOCP in 2014 when they just ran straight at us and we couldn’t do anything for lack of personnel.

Maybe Pittman should recruit DL too.

Sounds like the free transfer portal is in our future.

All that is required is for a player to have a buddy say the n-word on a cell phone video.

I liked his comment about the DBs and the dime package. “But which LB do you want to take off the field?”

Ok, physicality and experience wise looks good. What I’m concerned about is their mental attitude. No more phoning it in and sleepwalking! I want to see some hungry, rabid Dawgs fighting for what’s theirs! A national championship! Sic ‘em Dawgs!

Two years ago at this time I said UGA would win 12 games in ’17, would regress slightly in ’18, and would win the whole damn thing in ’19. This is the best, most talented team in the history if UGA football, and only a Fromm injury will detail our playoff hopes (or a totally absurd number of injuries overall at key spots).

I’ve been looking forward to this season for several years, and get ready for a fun ride.

What was it that Jim Donnan said… something like “I’ve waited 55 years to coach a football team with this much potential.” We’re talking about UGA. Something always goes wrong.

I am looking forward to the season, but i keep wondering if the players have their heads in the right place. There is a lot of youth, and a lot of cockiness to this team. Also, I think we are all personally still shell shocked from having Bama in our grasps twice, only to watch it slip away at the last moment. That can have an awful effect on the psyche. Players are hungry, but can they stay focused, players are talented, but they are young. Players are confident, but have had it ripped away from them at the last moment twice, in back to back years now. A lot of this is going to fall on leadership. Holding each other accountable and trusting the man beside you to do their job while you do yours. Fromm, Herrien, Simmons, Swift, and Woerner are going to have to step up on the offensive side to become leaders. The same goes for Reed, Rice, Crowder, Rochester, and Clark on the defensive side of the ball. This team can easily go 10-2. But if they get their heads on right and play as a focused, selfless team, they can be a championship team. The pieces are there, the coaches are there, the fan base is there, the schedule is there, but can we get out of our own way? Can we put it all together in time and find the trust and selflessness before November?

I am going to be honest I think the game at Neyland is huge this year. That will be the watershed moment for this team in my humble opinion. Anyone can get up for Notre Dame at your house at night. The first 3 games before that are tune ups at best, glorified scrimmages. But how are they going to handle themselves on the road in a hostile Neyland during the day, after the big win against ND and all the pats on the back and all the whispers of taking down Bama. Pruitt and Chaney will have this one circled as their game that they can point to say, “This is the day we turned the program around. No one believed in UT, but we beat the number 2 team in the country that was a 15 point favorite.” The first game in October is going to set the tone for the rest of the year. We have to get our collective heads on doing things in the moment and getting better and not listening to all the this year bull. This game, is what is important. This play is what is important. This block is what is important. If these young guys don’t figure that out soon, this could be a very disappointing 10-2 year.

No. That may happen at some other game, but not at Kneeland. The fruit that sucks isn’t that far along yet. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

    • Kirby in his press conference the other day, when addressing the Cox/Beal thing, said he is really happy where the leadership is with this team. This time last year I recall him calling out the players to find out who the leaders would be. Not sure we can really glean anything from this, but it’s a better start, seemingly, than last Spring.

From the quick official videos we are putting out from spring practice it appears Holloman, T Clark, Fromm, Crowder are setting the tone properly. Huge seasons on the field from those 4 would only increase their leadership impact. T Clark needs to be Rose Bowl T Clark all damn season.

Also crazy how many four stars and three stars have out played their ranking (Thomas and Kindley on offense Rice, Crowder, Jordan Davis and presumably Divaad Wilson on defense).
