“He’s a great person and a great guy to have in your organization.”

Booch, the five-star offensive analyst.

“Most of the stuff he does is behind the scenes, like film study and administrative-type work,” Saban said Wednesday. “He always does a ‘What do we need to do on offense?’ for me, and offering his opinion in terms of improving based on film study and things like that. His role has always sort of been that, and he’s done a really, really good job of it.

Bet he makes a mean cup of coffee, too.  How long before he’s redeemed sufficiently by his time in Tuscaloosa to get another head coaching offer?

Is Saban even paying these guys minimum wage? All these former head coaches he gets are still being paid by the schools that fired them. Not a bad deal for either one.

Forget the 2 characters involved here, Kirby should be asking that question every day when he wakes. I simply can’t imagine we don’t have an analyst assigned to studying what our offense is missing, looking at tendencies, etc. I know our advanced stats say we are near the top in many categories, but we have never looked like other offenses that have all those shiny, new toys on display every week.

Not only an analyst looking at this from an offensive perspective, another letting KS and Coley know how they would set up a defense to stop our own offense. You know, kind of like Boom did before traveling to Athens. We always say it but, is there a more predictable offense in the country (outside of those running the Triple Option)? Hard to imagine that.

Honestly believe Fish Fry had more actual plays in his playbook than Coley has shown. What the hell has happened to traditional sweeps and screen plays? Or throwing to the TE or WRs between the hash marks? Or the much discussed use of the RBs in the passing game? FU will be surprised that we have virtually abandoned the Fromm slant. Sorry, frustrated thinking what could have been with this talent. Sorriest display of offensive football I have seen in Athens, and I was around during all the Vince years. And that was when we didn’t have a QB like this one, not an OL. Waste, total waste.

Actually, we did have that in Jay Johnson, but he went with Mel Tucker to Colorado to be the OC there. Now, we appear to have Patrick Doherty and Derron Montgomery as QC on Offense and former Notre Dame player Montgomery VanGorder as an offensive intern. Doherty worked with Pittman at Arkansas and was an OC for a high school while in college). Montgomery’s bio is blank; so is VanGorder’s, but we know he was a senior at UND in 2017 and served as their holder on field goals.

So, yeah, this could be a problem in that we do not appear to have any experienced folks (read: guys with OC experience beyond high school) helping to QC the offensive game plan.

Thanks. I recall Johnson leaving but did not know who took his place. Those bios are underwhelming…so are the initial impressions of this offensive team. As I said before, appears the hiring process last December was shockingly lazy. There is no other way to characterize what was decided given the resources available, and the attractiveness of the position with the high profile of UGA, and talent on hand.

I’m not sure it was lazy, I think Kirby was either too scared to lose Coley or nobody worth hiring was willing to join us with Kirbs wanting to dictate the style of offense they’d run.

And why do you need a QC on offense- Just pound it up the middle- how hard is that?

  4. I doubt Saban lets him get away with a Keurig either. Probably has Butch in the back operating one of those fancy stainless steel Italian coffee contraptions. I bet the froth has to have the Alabama cursive A in it as well.

Butch let the pressure of the UT get to him. He got desperate and said stupid stuff. All things considered, the guy is a pretty good coach with a shtick that got old. And it’s awesome that UT is paying the retainer for him to work at their top rival.

The Vols are paying Butch through Feb. 28, 2021. Keep him on minimum and make sure Tennessee pays the full amount. That’s value enough.

Not implying anyone specifically and I know Butch let the stress get to him and he said some stupid things but after Saturday’s game there was some similar coach speak….. blah, blah, 4 turnovers, blah, and blah
I mean We were out coached and ill prepared and that’s on me would have been a more honest approach. Kids don’t turn the ball over on purpose. It’s where you put them in situationally when a problem occurs. These WR’s and Running Backs have caught and carried the ball since the 5th grade. A running back that’s 6 yds deep getting mauled by 3-4 defensive players before the L.O.S. and if a guy can’t be trusted to fair catch punts, I do assume that’s their duty since of lack of return yards+nothing but shadow blocking on return teams might not be my choice to throw to when the game was on the line.

Dunno if any of y’all are fans of Succession on HBO, but I could definitely see Bootch serving as Saban’s human footstool on the reg.
