Voting with their feet

Signing day just wrapped up.  I’m sure this is a mere coincidence.

Two South Carolina Gamecocks assistant coaches are on the move.

TheBigSpur’s Tony Morrell is reporting that Thomas Brown is off to the NFL, where he’ll coach former Georgia running back Todd Gurley, who now plays for the Los Angeles Rams. Defensive line coach John Scott Jr. is leaving for Penn State. Scott was previously linked to the staff at State College. He’ll reunite with Brent Pry, his former position coach at Western Carolina.

Bruce Feldman was first to report the news on Brown.

Brown and Scott, both of whom were around for only one season, join Coleman Hutzler and quarterbacks coach Dan Werner as the departures from Will Muschamp‘s 2019 coaching staff. Hutzler is now working as an assistant at Texas. Werner was not retained.

There are whispers out there that McClendon is feeling restless, too.

No doubt Boom has the situation under control.

Not quite sure if Bobo will save boom from himself, Bobo will probably improve the offense from a statistics standpoint….don’t know if the departures from the o staff were due to how bad it was or if it’s low tide and things are starting to stink a bit…which compelled the change/s to the UGA staff with that bad loss to soucar (and the lsu thumping)

I imagine Boom wandering the halls of the S.S. Cock with a couple of steel balls in his hand and bitching about missing strawberries.

I have no doubt that BMac is a little restless, he’s essentially in the same position that Coley was in here, having playcalling taken away from him. Just not sure there is a cushy landing spot anywhere nearby for him. Maybe circumstances have changed but supposedly one of the main reasons he chose SC in the first place instead of following Richt to Miami was because he and his wife didn’t want to move far away from their families. Again, maybe those circumstances have changed and they’re willing to move further away now. But I doubt if any schools are jonesing to give him a contract that will match what he is making for the ‘Cocks.

Well Bmac indeed is also leaving for the Steelers, and somewhere the Delta State coach is saying, “you need to learn what the word COMMIT means, son!” To be honest, if I’m a top 500 recruit or whatever these days, I’m doing exactly what Roquon Smith did, and that is to not sign with any school until well after all the coaching changes shake out.

Good for Brown and McLendon, two DGDs both—glad they’ve made their way off that sinking ship.

Really, now is the time to get out. Boom is getting the ax after next season and there will be a mad scramble thereafter. Makes Bobo’s decision questionable.

Their boss is on the hot seat and no recruiting in the NFL. Good for Brown and BMac. I can see Muschamp ending up in the NFL as an assistant somewhere after USCe as well.
