Vegas warms to the Dawgs.

Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook now lists Georgia at 7-to-1 odds to win the 2020 national title and Jamie Newman at 12-to-1 odds to win the Heisman.  Each is fourth-best, nationally.

Should we refer to that as the Monken Effect?

Only if we are 6-0 going in to the cocktail party.

Wow, there is much love for Newman. Some people have definitely noticed something. I watched some film on him and was pleased but to talk Heisman?
If Newman generates even a little Heisman attention in 2020, I feel very good about our chances for a championship.
Spring can’t get here soon enough.

Agree, he is a solid pick-up given the situation we ended up with in the QB room, but this is much overblown. I watched some of his play last year and didn’t see anything close to elite level QB play. I hope he has his best year ever but if he finishes higher than 4th in SEC QB rankings I will be both surprised, and happy.

And 4th might be good enough with the other pieces of the puzzle we have on hand. He doesn’t have to be a superstar to get us to Atlanta with a chance to win against the West winner. How a two-dimensional QB will be used by Monken at UGA will be the most interesting question to be answered.

The Monken Effect is the collorary to a yet-unnamed force on Georgia Football under Kirby:

    The Manball Effect.

You’ve tiptoed around it for years, but now that we’re on the precipice of being out from under it, we see that the assumption of Three Yards & a Cloud of Dust has had a limiting factor on perceptions of the program. For better or worse, offensive scheme in Athens has been a known entity for 40+ years.

Now, the question is – will the potential results of an offense unshackled from Kirby’s philosophy yield the kind of results we’re all seeking?

To this point, all it appears we’re missing to shift from a Good program to an Elite one is to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century on offense.

If Monken can install a any consistent passing attack to go with what should be a great ground game (a name your poison offense), along with a already formidable defense; Dawgs will win a lot of games. How quickly that develops will dictate the season. We beat Bama early Vegas will get hot for the Dawgs.

  8. Serious question: I’m going to lay a grand on the Dawgs to win it all this year. Do I go ahead and take it at 7-1? Or do I wait a bit and see how training goes? Bear in mind the only football betting I’ve ever done is a couple of parley cards…
