Neither one of these two has the first clue about the conditions the players are leaving or the conditions they’re facing on campus, so it’s a gotcha question and a vacant answer.
It’s the “Some of our student-athletes will drive” that seals it, though. I almost hope Sankey was trolling the guy. But I doubt it.

Now wait a minute, Senator. Sankey’s got a point. The NCAA has presented protocols and provided oversight to it’s member AA’s so that the risk to a player’s health is kept to the minimum possible….

There’s nothing wrong with Sankey’s answer, all the more because this idiot from HBO seems to think Sankey has analogous powers to a pro sports commissioner. He answered the idiot’s question as best he could. The fact is, players are far safer where they can be monitored and tested than they would be if they are home.

I agree 100% that the players are far safer being with the teams as opposed to the general public or sequestered at home. The HBO shitbird knows it too, he’s just being an asshole under the guise of “doing it for the children” .
Sankey’s response would be on point if the NCAA had actually provided and guidance, guidelines, and oversight which they have not. Now if Greg had said: “We trust our member institutions to provide the safest environment possible for our student athletes and that includes travel arrangements, David. Now, stop being a dickhead.” That would have been much more honest and the tone of Blutarsky’s post would likely have been much more positive.

I have a hard time believing Mike Slive recommended Sankey as his replacement. Slive was cultured, bright and quick in his feet. Sankey is none of those. Maybe the school presidents thought that the future was unavoidable and didn’t need anyone to actually run the conference. They got their man.

Getting defensive and trying to bicker about how many took a flight to get back to school is desperate and pathetic. Arguing about that in 1980 or 1990 may have made some lick of sense but not in 2020. These sports teams have kids from all over the country now.

This is pretty painful for both of them! The correct answer to this inane question is, of course, “all of them have had a positive test, and all of them will have positive tests in the future.” The question is (and its premises are) dumb, but not really sure why Sankey can’t just man up and give a substantive and honest answer to push back; pretty weak sauce all around…
