The Dawgs’ seven-point drop in scoring from 2018 to 2019 was second worst this century. Only the brain of Brian Schottenheimer managed worse – a staggering two touchdowns worse in 2015 than 2014.
If nothing else, there’s proof that big drops in offensive production are bad for job security.

Damn, that article on Schottenheimer certainly is complementary. He’s depicted as an offensive genius. Do you think it is personnel or has he gone from dumbass to genius is a few years?

He himself said he wasnt prepared for the college schedule and program. Limited coaching time (he was surprised to learn this), and supposed to be recruiting. And, I mean, you have the best of the best of the best in the nfl even with the lesser pros.

I think its hard to beat Alabama with Greyson Lambert. Dude cracked in that game and never came out of it.
Greyson went 24 of 25 vs. USC and had only 1 incompletion the next week.
First snap vs. alabama and 26 has two steps on the corner for 6 and greyson misses him short and wide. He was done.
Meanwhile, schotty has done ok for himself as a offensive coach in the nfl.

i think that’s a good point. CBS did an amazing job scheming etc. to put Greyson in the position to have an amazing game against a weaker team. The problem is that you can’t out scheme Alabama with a limited talent player (in comparison – I’m not saying I could do it either!)

Mike, if I remember correctly, the South Carolina corners played off the receivers all night, and we hit slant after slant. Lambert had one of those evenings where everything went right. We didn’t really duplicate that against a team with a pulse the rest of the year.

Absolutely, ee. Greyson wasn’t hitting 30-yard bombs. It was slant after slant.

When I look for guys who can’t competently hire coordinators I start with head coaches with multiple natties and a super bowl ring. Its a really deep bench: 3.
Carroll hires and keeps Schotty as OC?!!? Of course he does. After all pete knows less about football than the general public does.

I wonder what we would think of Schottenheimer if he had had Murray as QB in stead of Lambert?

Murray loves throwing pick 6s, so probably about the same result.

Didn’t Spurrier say Murray was one of the best passers to play in the SEC? But what does Spurrier know about the passing game. And he gives UGA so many undeserved complements, we should discount his opinions anyway.

Murray was the leading passer in the history of the SEC until Joe Burrow came along. The team’s problems during the years Murray played at Georgia had nothing to do with the QB position.

Murray still is the all-time leader.

Burrow May have got him for single season?

Do we no longer assign ANY blame to the Jimmies and Joes?
If it’s all the coaches’ fault, why do we worry so much about recruiting?

Would you like Coley to come back?

Well, no.

And not be the OC…sure…

I do not believe that would be good at all for staff chemistry to have a guy that was a basically fired (demoted and told to find a job) to come back in any role.

The Jimmies & Joes had their own set of challenges … losing Nick Chubb on the 3rd play of the game in Knoxville didn’t help matters.
Refusing to adapt your language and system to the restraints of college coaching is malpractice by both the head coach and the offensive coordinator.

This DawgPost article makes it sound like we’ll be definitely be implementing the same slow mesh-point read-option that Wake uses under Dave Clawson. I’ll believe that when I see Zeus and Newman each holding the ball, slow walking toward the LOS against Bama. I do expect to see some read-options with Newman, but would be shocked if we run them the same, delayed way as Wake.

For What it’s Worth:
Conflicts between HC and OC has been pretty much the norm. Check out Saban with “Lame” Kiffen. Kirbs and Pruitt were not buds necessarily although that was a D on D conflict.
History promotes the cohesiveness of the locker room along with talent to perform level. The OC jobs is not to install what he has always run but to adjust to the personnel options of what has worked for the OC before but expand on the talents of a ever changing group of talent. It can change practice to practice, game to game and for sure season to season. It’s compromised when friction is a part of the locker room as well as the staff. One can certainly beget the other quickly.

I hope all the haters on this site will finally stop badmouthing Jake Fromm now. It was the fault of Coley—not Jake, who was, is, and forever will be a DGD.

Schottenheimer maybe a good a NFL coach. I have no idea and don’t keep up with the NFL but I do not success in the NFL does not always translate to success in CFB as well as the other way around. Further I think long term Schottenheimer was not a good recruiter and the SEC does not give the time span needed to learn the skill set on the job.
Coley was a step back for UGA at OC as various stats show it. The blog entry on rush percentage for a given area of the field was interesting. Could he learn and evolved maybe. Could he have personnel that better fit his plans possibly. I think Chaney was better but not worth what UT is paying. Monken looks promising. We shall see. LSU shows if you have talent which UGA clearly has, the turn around can be quick, with that said I am not National Title or bust for the next season.

From some of the media reports, Old Fashioned Hate may be gone, too, if the SEC decides on a 10-game conference schedule. I can’t imagine UGA, Florida and Kentucky are happy right now. South Carolina may be voting with the others to keep from playing Clemson.
They better go 9+1 like the ACC is doing.

If this ends up being the case, get ready to go back to Atlanta in 2021. We won’t have any leg to stand on to play the 2021 game in Athens.
