This is what a coming out party measures like:
Who’da thunk after the first two games that George Pickens wouldn’t be Georgia’s top receiver, statistically speaking?
This is what a coming out party measures like:
Kearis Jackson (@king_kearis) now with 3rd-best overall grade among FBS WRs (89.0) with at least 10 targets.
15 receptions on 20 targets for 209 yards. https://t.co/rgrxMh0grg

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

Glad you posted this, Bluto — I was thinking about it yesterday.
I think Kearis Jackson saw it coming. His happy talk about the offense prior to the season opener was a reflection of how much better HE felt about the coaching, scheme, himself. He framed it in team terms, but what he was really saying was, “I’m ready to go!”
He was right.

All that said, is there anyone other than G. Pickens you’d rather see laying out for a ball — other than M. Landers, obviously.

Given how I figured Pickens would be doubled up on, I’m not surprised. I think as a guy like Jackson starts to emerge, Pickens’ game will open up.

I think Burton is just about ready to break out a little, too, which is going to be big.

Yeah, Burton is still learning the offense, but I expect him to be a big contributor later in the season.

I remember there were doubts about Jackson pre-season. He has surely stepped up.

Looking back, Kearis Jackson was a huge loss last season when he went down in the opener against Vanderbilt. He was starting to flash a little in that game, too, before he broke his leg. I forget how much of the season he missed, but he would have been a great addition to a receiver corps that struggled a lot last year. I’m really happy he’s back and coming up big. He’s definitely Stetson’s security blanket.

Broke arm I think. Vanderbilt defender used his hard cast as a club, broke Kearis’ arm and caused a fumble. I was livid that was allowed.

You’re right, for some reason I was remembering it as a leg.

Perfect player for the slot and Monken is taking advantage of that.

Hopeful the staff can/will keep Mr. Pickens focused (he demands their best db), play in play out…with other receivers getting more attention due to scheme plus the running game gaining more confidence, equals less balls thrown his way…

I have concerns about this too.

I would think this would seriously help George get big play opportunities. When Kevin Steele turned on the tape I’m sure he said we’re gonna stop the run and stop George Pickens. The calculus of putting a safety over the top just got a lot harder.

Jackson runs like an RB once he has the ball. Fun to watch.
And what ever happened to that kid Haselwood who ditched us for Okie? Hope he’s watching Pickens and Jackson put on clinics.

Well, the Swooners are sitting at 1-2 after back to back losses to K State and Iowa State. The Red River Shootout this week against Texas will be huge for both teams. B12 may get shut out of the playoffs. I guess all we DID need was the SEC and ACC to play this year.

Turns out, he hurt his knee working out at home over the spring. Will miss at least the first half of the season.

That is a bad break for him.

One more thing about the Kearis love….lets give him credit for actually getting to the ball and CATCHING punts, much less returning them.
Auburn had a couple that in the past would have at the very least rolled 10 more yards. And before you go there, I am pretty sure he was told to stay away from the last one unless it was right at him.

Both he and Milton on kickoffs are dynamic. One or both will break one soon. Hopefully against Bama.

McIntosh on kickoffs not Milton

Dang it! I knew that. Probably won’t be the last time I mix up the M’s.

I think last season would have looked quite a bit different if Jackson and Cager had stayed healthy.

The truth is much of Kearis Jackson’s statistical success is because of Pickens. If they can get just one more consistently reliable threat it will totally change the way they play us. Even as it is, if Jackson’s play and good opportunities continue, in a few games teams will take more chances with Pickens rather than leaving Jackson always one on one.

Exactly – I couldn’t tell totally from TV, but as others have mentioned, it seemed like Pickens was getting a lot of attention. He was 1-on-1 on the TD as well FWIW…

I don’t know who to credit but a big different between a Bennett offense and a Fromm offense is that Bennett seems much more comfortable making use of everyone. This makes our offense tougher to defend.
