And… a pony

I have no clue how accurate any of this is.

But the leap from #1 to #6, especially considering the steps in between, is quintessential Vol.  Hilarious, in other words.

They got the right AD – but sometimes your ego writes checks that your intelligence can’t cash; even if you’re pretty darn smart. They may be what White is facing in Knoxville.

50 – yikes that represents two recruiting cycles or worse. I will never believe Fat Phil wasn’t part of it or at the very least aware.

      Of course he fucking knew.

It’s why he was made to “retire.”

The hilarious part is, he did this to himself, literally.

If these were criminal offenses, the Vols would have first place on the Fulmer Cup locked up for the next 5 years.

Sorry, it wasn’t phil, he’s a dough-nut-hole kinda’ guy, but he did stick himself, his expectations for the in house investigation were to low, when it all mushroomed, the sideline gig went to the shitter…cause that was the only hc job he was/is EVER gonna’ get….

Been saying it all along. They never, ever should have swung for the fences. From the get go, they should have set their sights on a rock solid G5 coach who knows how to win games, but who isn’t “the next big thing” expecting a call when the next elite job comes open.

But hey, at least the world knows which UT booster “who don’t settle for nothin but the best” is in charge of things. “And you tell him we better have a new awesome coach by…. uh…. THURSDAY!”

    Morons.

Same here. But now they’ve objectively proven the dumpster still burns. I wouldn’t take the UT job if I were Liepold at this point. Not without a lot of guaranteed cash I wouldn’t have demanded a week ago.

They should have set their sights at an appropriate level from the start, and gone and hired their guy.

If I were offered the job, I think the main thing I’d be demanding is a guarantee nothing transpires like what happened out in Texas. If you want me taking this job I have to be able to make my hires without outside interference. A they have to be MY hires.

      • Not worried. They are not going to be meaningful for 5 years. FSU has 10% of their problems, in a better location, with better environment, and Jimbob left them a whole they still cant dig out of. UT is about to go to 55 scholies for 2 years. No bowls.

At this point UT is basically Cousin Eddy “holding out for a management position.”

Or maybe they’re that poor girl who’s about a 7 but thinks she’s a 10 and that’s the kinda guy she won’t settle for anything less than. Pushing 40 but still single. Meanwhile she’s got “needs” she’s filling with whatever guy still hasn’t left the bar with anyone else by 2am every Saturday night. There are plenty of guys who’d have taken a 7, but what respectable fella’s going to touch that train wreck now?

    Thought 1:

Who wants the money more than they want to win?

Is there a legit UT alum in coaching somewhere?

I would imagine that Georgia would have quite a number of guys to pick from if we ended up in this mess.

    Thought 2:

If Jeremy establishes that Fulmer was in on all the cheating and taught him how to cheat from his days as hc, that means there is a God right? Just want to make sure I have that math down correct.

    The best would be:

Phat Phil: if we get caught we just work it off by ratting on our competition like I did with Means and Alabama.

    On tape….

Who knew dehydrated-piss-yellow-orange Schadenfreude would be so amazingly delicious as it has turned out to be???

These stupid Vawls thinking they’d go out and be able to hire a “big name” to be their head coach after everything they did to Pruitt and the NCAA probation that’s on its way which will make it impossible to win on Rocky Flop for years.

I guess “delusional” really is spelled H-I-L-L-B-I-L-L-Y! 😂🤣😂

The funniest thing to me is that they were already in a perfect position to go hire a great coach for the right price after Butch Jones, but they completely screwed it up in every way, including firing him when like 10 superior programs were already in the market. After this next coach inevitably fails they’ll be lucky to get anyone as good as Butch Jones to right the ship so they can then, after they fire that guy, finally go after a decent coach again….. if they have their act together at that point. They won’t.

Until there is some clarity to what the situation up in Hillbilly land really is, it is going to be hard to get any coach. A name coach is not going to step into an unknown mess. An up and coming young coach is not going to want to possibly blow his one bite at the apple on a pretty much no win situation. This will have to be someone who just desperately needs a job (Gus) or who out of loyalty to UT (??) or White (ex. Heupel) takes the job. At present, it has to be one of the most UNAPPEALING college football jobs out there. Once they get the ship righted (if they can), it still ain’t going to be that great.

    • Gus’s money from the buyout doesn’t make him that desperate for a job. He could stand back and watch Greater Opelika burn after this recruiting class if he would like.

I would be very surprised if a top Gof5 coach would even take the call from Knoxville right now because he doesn’t want to deal with the sanctions and no way do you want to screw up your big chance by walking into a terrible situation.

They are going to have to go the coordinator route again because ANY head coach is going to ask for a long-term deal with a big buyout. Think something like Jeoff’s deal at Fech.

I forgot about Gus’ buyout money, but you get my point. For a “name” coach to come in, they will have to be desperate for any shot.

        Like

        • I guess my comment really means Gus can wait for a job that doesn’t have a ton of baggage associated with it. He even has the ability to sit out 2021 for the right job. I could see him going somewhere like NC State or Virginia Tech if one of those schools blows out a coach. If Stoops got the right B1G job, he could end up at UK.

“Cool Breeze”!!…..haven’t heard his name in a while.

From UT’s secondary coach to DC at UGA…..horrible hire. Donnan should have stuck with Kines at DC. I Kines got moved him to Assistant HC (or maybe co-DC) to make room for Cool Breeze.

Always wondered if Ramsey really took a swing at Donnan at the Outback Bowl at halftime.

“Swamp Fox” took the reins back & saved us.

      In honor of Kines:

Unless Steele is among the violators, I don’t know why they don’t just ride the storm out with him and hire someone else in a couple of years. But if they want to overpay someone else to be the caretaker, more power to them.

    Liked by 3 people

    • Yea, thats also way weird. This is a real case of full on crazy or alcoholism, everybody else can see it but them.

      Like

    • If Steele is a caretaker (and I wouldn’t want to be if I were him), recruiting is going to suck even worse because no high schooler in his right mind would agree to go play for someone who is likely only there until the sanctions blow over.

Bill O’Brien proved you can ride out sanctions without becoming a nuclear wasteland. Heck even Ole Miss proved that. The NCAA is never rolling out the death penalty again.

        Like

        • My point is about Steele as caretaker/interim rather than as head coach.

I do think the NCAA would put the death penalty on the table if Freeze came to Knoxville and got them back into trouble.

The hell of it is that Hugh Freeze would take the job in a heartbeat, violations situation be damned, and the fans would welcome him with open arms as a savior — and he’s literally the only coach out there who’s a bonafide “non-starter” because of the violations.

When I think about it, I think of the final scene of Reservoir Dogs where Tennessee is Joe Cabot, Freeze is Nice Guy Eddie and Pruitt is Mr. Orange/Freddy. And that scene makes me grin.

Hell, I would hire him…..with certain caveats/stipulations. He’s going on 2 years without any hiccups at Liberty.

      Worth the risk/reward imo.

      Also keep hearing James Franklin……”FTMF”.

Can’t stand the fellow, especially after he showed his ass at the end Georgia/Vandy game.

But he is a good coach and helluva recruiter imo.

    • I don’t see Sleeze as acceptable if all of the rumors about the extent of the violations are true. The NCAA would drop the death penalty hammer on them if Hugh got them in trouble again. Even he probably isn’t so desperate to get back to the SEC to take that job.

Guess I was wrong again. I cannot believe that they are pushing to get a HC by the end of this week. Just clownish. The fact that they have flatly said no to Steele for 21 thinking that they were going to get some big name guy with all the uncertainty (and shitty team on top of that) is unreal.

Just checked on VolNation to see if their fans are hyperventilating. They have a whole thread on flight checking. Confirmation of a plane owned by a booster going up to Penn State. I would relish James Franklin back in the SEC with that train wreck in Knoxville. Yeah, yeah, I know. “He went 9-4 in back to back seasons at Vandy of all places!” They’ll hate him within a few years when he can’t win instantly because he is so far behind their three biggest rivals.

  12. I’ll do it. I’ll take one for UT. They will save money and win just as much. I’m good with like $1M a year plus all expenses everything. Like a truck, house rent, gas, all meals, I assume I get all the gear I need. Also a bass boat and a spot at the lake. And a sponsership with someone that has guns, like Glock, Sig. I’ll hire gus as OC/Ass Coach. We go through 2 years, and viola, they can hire a “real coach” since thats what Vol Nation said they needed.

I have a new truck a reasonable retirement account so what’s left? I would take the job for 250,000 rounds of 9mm – 250,000 rounds of .223 – the boat would be nice too – how about a nice fully decked out Edgewater 340 CC

It’s been said already in this thread a thousand times, but I can’t help but pile on.

The best they can do is to find someone desperate for a major HC job. They have essentially put themselves on probation. Scholly limits and post-season bans are imminent. On top of that, the talent drain to the transfer portal and the way they canned Pruitt has to give anyone with potential pause. I cannot imagine any of the names being floated would be interested.

All the hot G5 names (Chadwell, etc) passed on an equally good job with less hassle at S. Carolina. Elliott can sit at Clemson & wait for the right job, not necessarily a rebuild with all the handicaps in Knoxville currently.

Who might be desperate? Freeze, for sure; maybe Satterwhite after bumbling through the S. Carolina interview blowback, but he just went 4-7!

Liepold has come up and I can see that. Buffalo winning won’t last forever and he knows White, so the relationship piece maybe overcomes all the drawbacks.

Left field name, but perhaps Scott Frost leaves Lincoln while he can of his own volition? Goes back to White who gives him some rope? Tennessee at this point has to be as tough a job as Nebraska.

I think if they get Sankey’s OK, the best they can do is Freeze (hypocrisy be damned – this is Knoxville, y’all). And he will take it. Sometimes that’s the most important thing.

In the end, I don’t know that any of the floated names bother me at all given what we’ve got rolling. Freeze actually worries me the most. Next, I guess the Liepold guy but will he get the rope to build the program? I don’t think he will but we’ll see.
