Question of the day

… comes from Bill Connelly, and it’s a fun one.

For me, it’s gotta be Percy Harvin.  I was happier to see him turn pro than any other receiver I can remember.

I can also tell you who it’s not:  Calvin Johnson.  As always, thanks, Reggie!

    Devonta Smith – yes, it’s still too soon.
    Jacquez Green – a south/middle Georgia kid we let get away to Hogtown
    Percy Harvin – definitely a game changer
    Alshon Jeffrey – that guy just made plays

    Any receiver playing for Saban at Bama.

    They’ve seemingly all burned us at the worst times, in the worst ways, regardless if it was Richt or Kirby coaching us.

        Well, given that if we beat Bama in 2012 Richt gets a longer grace period and likely wouldn’t be fired in 2015, I’d say for certain we’d have one for sure.

    Yeah, Harvin for me too.

    I was happy to see Timmy leave because he was good, but more because I was tired of hearing about him. Harvin on the other hand, I was tired of his ability.

    Have to agree that it was Harvin, although I also wouldn’t have wanted to see that little dude from UMass on a consistent basis.

      We did a good job on Isabella when our starters were in the game. He got loose when Kirby emptied the bench. I still think Kirby should have hung 80+ on them when their head coach ran that double pass to him against our subs.

    I still wake up in a cold sweat often thanks to Devonta Smith, but Harvin was a headache every year.

    Anyone from UT or UF from 1994-1998. And O’Dell Beckham and Sammy Watkins even though we only played them once each, I knew they could score from anywhere at any time.

      Man, the year we finally broke through against Tennessee, my buddies and I were on the track, 10 yards from the UT bench. We talked so much trash to Stallworth, he tried to come over and fight us a couple of times and was held back by his teammates. I’d like to think we contributed to his horrible performance. Although I do feel bad for the filth spilling out of my mouth that day.

    Oh, and it was only a single game and over three decades ago, but Andre Rison is still catching TDs against us in Dooley’s last game.

    Agreed with Harvin and Jeffrey in recent times.

    Maybe a conversation for tomorrow but a topic to toss out, The QB I most enjoyed watching play our hated rivals but hated to play was the Hefty Lefty Lorenzen.

      Craig Yeast gave Donnan’s team fits for sure. Whenever there’s footage of CKS playing, it seems like the clips usually show interceptions in the Cocktail Party and against UK. I wonder if Yeast was playing in that game.

    I agree with all mentioned, but the first one to pop in my mind was Devonta Smith. His catches just cost us so much. I understand he was once committed to Georgia…talk about a “simple twist of fate!”

    After this date : November 13, 1999, it was Ronney Daniels as a freshman.

    He flat tore up Georgia’s secondary’ ass. Had about 250 yards receiving if I recall correctly. The “night the lights went out in Georgia”.

    Boy, am I ever glad to see that guy move on. Terrible secondary that year, but he was making a lot of SEC teams look bad.

    In a bit of a different take from WRs going off for hundreds of yards, acrobatic catches, or blowing the top off the Defense. Lutzenkirchen for Auburn. He was clutch for getting a needed TDs or 3rd down conversions. 2010 against UGA, he only had 2 catches but both were for TDs, In the Iron Bowl, he had clutch catches. I knew his family so I maybe biased. H back/FBs that can pull off the go out for a “missed” block to run a route can be lethal.

      He may have been able to make plays off play design, but he wasn’t the guy you had to scheme on defense to stop. In other words, thinking of other tight ends, he wasn’t a 0 or Kyle Pitts type of player.

    Maybe not the scariest, but the most embarrassing was Andy Isabella (UGA vs UMass 2018) Dude torched us for 15 rec, 219 yards, and 2 TD. He was good enough that he is in the NFL, but come on….. UMass???

    Good list…..went to go see my old HS play against Peach County one night, my first time watching Jacquez play. Not sure how many he scored or yards he got that night, but he definitely stood out.

    One of the quickest players I had ever seen on the football field. He couldn’t be covered…..small, but damn he was quick.

    The Dawgs missed out on a great one.

    On a side note, while I was watching the game that night. I looked over on Peach County sidelines. Saw a good friend that I grew up with there as one of the assistant coaches……hadn’t seen him for about 10 years. Caught up with him after the game.

    I believe he went on to make a career of coaching in HS. Not a good player back in HS, but turned out to be a pretty dang good coach.
