I know that OSU and Texas Tech bring something in athletics, but the 12 Pack still facies themselves on a “better” level when it comes to academics. Baylor and TCU I can see because academically they rank in the 70-80 range in national universities which is a little better than places like University of Colorado or Utah. But OSU is much farther back and Texas Tech is in the mid 200s in national ranking. The Pac 12 has four schools in the top 25 of national universities (Stanford, UCLA, Cal, and USC) and only Washington State and Oregon State, long time members, are not hovering around the 100 ranking or in the top 100.

I don’t see it happening because it would water down the PAC, which is already drowning from years of terrible management. Is there a silver lining when you combine catastrophic problems under one roof?

The PAC 12 is saddled with a bad TV deal and uncompetitive teams. Both of those are temporary and they know it. The smartest move for the PAC 12 would be to destroy the Big 12 by any means necessary…. Starting with moves like this.

I’d love to see SC/UCLA/Oregon/Wash coming to Ft. Worth. Cowtown is the 12th largest city in the US. and D/FW (8MM+) is the fourth largest in US. Amon Carter/TCU is typically sold out. It’s a big market to abandon. Would give the PAC-20 a CST early kick-off. I love it!

If West-by-God-Virginia doesn’t already have an inferiority complex after the way the Big East went down a decade ago (and the way that they were denied by both the SEC and ACC for not having a large enough TV market or not being a member of the AAU), they surely will now.

Bowlsby may be burning his boats without realizing it and if he cuts a deal with the PAC the B12 is DOA…. then tu and OU play an SEC schedule in 2022 without paying a dime to the ghost of the B12. Of course…thats a guess.

I don’t see any merger deal that allows Bob to keep his job.
The only way I see him staying a conference commissioner is somehow keep his league together. If the other schools agreed and he offered OU and UT 50% of the current TV deal to stay as been reported reducing the league value by 50% is a wash for current schools. Either option the remaining schools get the same 14 million dollar deal.
It would be fun listening to Bob explaining the value of a renegotiated TV deal with his trust partner ESPN. Bend over Bob we got a deal for you partner.

They should join up and they should bring in UCF, Cincinnatti, and some other teams to round it out and become a national conference. I think it is inevitable and would help their conference(s).

Scramble for a seat at the big money table = 4×16. Which means some schools are left out. The power 4 > than a new Southwest Conference or the Other 5. So…
West Virginia calls the ACC. The ACC tries to do better, but Notre Dame isn’t going to commit. Houston listens to their call, but they’re hoping for the Big 10. WVU calls the ACC and Big10. ACC should take it. TCU and Baylor look to the PAC-12. The PAC-12 is interested, but what other 2 schools will get them to 16? BYU listens but like ND probably stays out of it, so then who?. Oklahoma State calls the Big10, who is interested but prefers ND and/or stealing other team(s) from the ACC. They might take Iowa State…who is lucky to be good right now. (OSU really wants in the SEC…but unless someone leaves, no soup for them). If someone did leave the SEC, who would the SEC turn too?! (gulp I hope not GT).
The dominos will continue to fall, and Presidents/ADs are racing to get a seat before the music stops.
