Bottoms up!

You, a college athletics administrator:  one bad thing about compensating college athletes for their NIL rights is who knows what they’ll wind up endorsing?

Also You, a college athletics administrator:  hold my beer!

A few Deacon Brews makes those Deacon Blues feel better…”drink scotch whiskey all night long”…

I had that song in my head all morning, before even seeing this story. Deacon Brews was the first thing that came to mind when I read it.

Steely Dan is probably the most satisfying tuneage for me in the “popular music” category. It just never gets old to my ears.

I dig me some Steely Dan too. When they did some solo stuff Donald Fagan had a catchy little ditty with New Frontier. This is gonna make me sound like Lyndon LaRouche but I noticed a change in the lyrics on the apple music version that I think can be attributed to political correctness. The original version was ” It’s just a dugout that my dad built
In case the reds decide to push the button down”
The version on my Ipod from this year says
“In case the rebels decide to push the button down”
I know I’m weird for noticing but it is definitely different.

The irony is that Wake Forest is a Baptist college. Wonder what the discussion was at the Board of Trustee’s meeting.
I guess Mercer football will have an official beer from Macon Brewing.

Guess the Wake Forest Athletic administrators will start having a whole lot more tats and weed.

    • Wake Forest hasn’t been affiliated with North Carolina Baptists for decades now. On the original campus in Wake Forest, N.C., there is a seminary affiliated with the SBC now, but the university is now non-affiliated (similar to what has happened at Mercer, Furman, Stetson, Belmont, and Samford).

Thanks for that info. I went to freshman orientation at Wake Forest in 1972 and I learned then it was a Baptist school. Obviously I did not keep up with the subsequent change.
I didn’t really like it when I was there for freshman orientation. I went to freshman orientation at UGA and was hooked, so I made the correct choice.
I didn’t know about Mercer. Baylor is still a Baptist college, isn’t it?

  4. Remember the Quincy

Anyone remember the short-lived wine that was co-branded with UGA? It was unlicensed and they were forced to shut down shortly after starting up. I have a bottle and never opened it.

Yep. I worked for Georgia Crown at the time and easily sold that wine everywhere. I still have a few bottles. I remember thinking, “How are we getting away with this?”. Then I remembered who my boss was.

If drinking motivates, us Catholics have wine every day at Mass – i guess the Baptists and Presbyterians forgot what JC’s first miracle was

Methodists and Presbyterians will at least speak to you in the liquor store. Baptists avoid you when they run into you there. I can say this without hesitancy because I grew up in a small Baptist church and am now Methodist,

I did a New Year’s eve gig at an Episcopalian church as a high schooler that grew up Baptist – it blew my mind seeing practically a full bar in the choir room. I have come to deeply respect the Whiskey-palian approach.

Creature Comforts + UGA = “Red & Bock”. Coming to a tailgate near you.

Southern Brewing in Athens already has a Berliner Weisse named “Red & Black”. It’s quite tasty. I see nothing wrong with a 21-year old Dawg getting a NIL deal to promote it… and I’m Baptist!

I hope MFU’s obvious choice is “Flapple” after we’re through with them.
