Alabama OC/QB coach Bill O’Brien has returned to New England and is being named the Patriots offensive coordinator, sources tell @ClowESPN and me. O’Brien was a Patriots’ assistant coach from 2007-2011, and now returns to coach Mac Jones, whom he briefly worked with at Alabama.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Dear Eight Pound, Six Ounce, Newborn Baby Jesus, in your golden, fleece diapers, with your curled-up, fat, balled-up little fists pawin’ at the air please let Nick Saban hire Mullen and Grantham.

umm absolutely not on the Former. The absolute last thing I want is Dan Mullen working with Bama’s talent on offense. People can mock Mullen all they want, but we know that his track record as an offensive coach is very good with mediocre talent. When he is given very good talent, the results are excellent. Grantham is another kettle of fish. For whatever reason, the same pattern has emerged. (though in fairness, I would love for some to run numbers on third and grantham, which I don’t think was actually a huge thing from 2010-12 – it obviously was terrible in 2013)

Sideshow was a clown as a HC, but I’ll agree he was a decent OC…and probably as good or better than the other recent rehabbed Bama OCs
With that Bama bench, you’d never hear the end of how talented he would be if he continued to win at Bama by single digits…spare me the fake praise

Will his ego allow him to serve as an OC under a guy like Nick Saban? I kinda doubt it.

You are probably right…Hope we don’t find out…but he did work under Corch at one point…I’m fine with him staying at his lake house

The main concern I would have about Mullen if I was Saban is his reluctance to recruit.

Agree. I’d rather keep Sideshow Dan in the broadcast booth, where he’s surprisingly not bad.

Hearing Joe Cox and Jeff Lebby as the OC candidates.

Joe Cox? The Red-headed Menace? One of the most mediocre QBs who has ever started an entire season at Georgia?
THAT Joe Cox?

Yessir. Current Alabama TE coach and I believe a former OC at the G5 level. Maybe Colorado State under Bobo?

I mean, we’re not lucky enough to see Third and Grantham in Gumpaloosa. I mean, we just won Back-2-Back National Titles. God doesn’t love us THAT much.
However, I’d be worried if Saban hired Sideshow Dan the Clown to be his OC. That would be a fantastic hire.

Mullen did well as an OC under Corch. Not sure how well he would work under Saban.

Dan would probably be dumb enough to require the “assistant HC” title to which Nick would tell him to GTFOH.
Grantham would probably just drive Nick nuts with his special 1000 page blitz book.

May I suggest Shotty and Grantham…

Actually Mullen wouldn’t he a bad choice for OC. Grantham on the other hand…

Well Mullen has a good gig and plenty of UF’s money. The negatives to he won’t recruit. Todd could be a good hire but would drive Saban crazy with his 3rd down calls.

69Dawg,
Mullen and Grantham can not or will not recruit. I don’t think Nick would go along with that.

Was there a huge enough problem with O’Brien to want him gone? After all how many college OC’s have a Heisman Trophy winner on their resume?

Two coordinators leave Bama for a lateral move. How my any transfers are on the way out?
This is a telltale sign Bama is cracking.

I was thinking yesterday, if we lose Trez to Bama, but keep Schumann from them, that’s a big win in my book. Trez had a nice spring and does some good work for the Dawgs, but really don’t want to lose Schu to Bama.
