You make it hard for me when you say things like that.

You know what’s worse than a Gamecock fan?

A reasonable Gamecock fan.

I mean, how am supposed to attack something like this?

But the fact of the matter is also this: If South Carolina had defeated an Auburn team that Georgia defeated last year, the Gamecocks would have gone to Atlanta. Yes, the loss to Arkansas hurt, but Georgia went 5-0 against common opponents last year and South Carolina went 4-1. That’s why the Gamecocks didn’t go to the SEC Championship Game.

Seriously, and for the record, I don’t see Georgia running off a 12-0 regular season.  But I think cocknfire’s right about one big thing – if Georgia wins the East this year, it won’t be because of the schedule.  It’ll be because it turned out to be the better team.

  1. Isn’t reasonable Gamecock fan like “jumbo shrimp”? Cocknfire is pretty reasonable but definitely is the exception to the rule.

Beat us this year and then you can talk all you want about who is the better team, Senator. Bless your heart.

Let me see if I can help clarify this for you guys. Last year, we played each other and 6 common opponents. In those seven games, South Carolina went 6-1. Georgia went 6-1. We won the head-to-head on your field. But hey! Ignore that. Y’all are the better team. That’s because in games where we didn’t have a common opponent, you beat Ole Miss. And we lost to Arkansas. Ole Miss went 2-10, (0-8 in the league). Arkansas went 11-2 (6-2 in the SEC).

Disregard that, however. Georgia is clearly the better team – because of the Auburn game. Riiiiiiiggggghhhttttttttt. The Auburn game is trumps the head-to-head record. That’s what passes for “reasonable” in Athens. If Cocknfire wants to suck up to you guys, great. He did a nice job.

You guys played rather poorly down the stretch – especially against UK. If you had played Arkansas, you would have finished 6-2 in the league. If we had played Ole Miss, however, we’d have finished 6-2 in the league. Do you really doubt that?

Why can’t you admit that a scheduling advantage took you to the SECCG? It wouldn’t be so hard to do. But never mind. Don’t bother answering. That would mean aliens had kidnapped you and left normal people in your place. Thank heaven you’re all safe. I would have been so worried. The Auburn game proved you were the better team.

Oh, and don’t forget Ole Miss, either.

The schedule rotates. Georgia didn’t cheat you or anyone. Historically Auburn is a stronger team than Arkansas, so we have also had a stronger yearly opponent than South Carolina.

One more time, and really try to let this sink in: the schedule rotates.

+1 – EXXXXXACTLY! I’ve always said UGA had the easier schedule but that something that rotates. UGA did what it had to do (beat AU) and took advantage of the weaker schedule. I don’t remember this much crowing from UGA fans about their ’08 schedule when we played a MUCH tougher schedule than SC’s last year.

There are a lot of “ifs” in that post. Here’s another “if” for you. If it helps you sleep better thinking you were robbed last year, well, there really is no one to help you with that. Denial is bad place to live.

+1 – This. I actually attended the game and sat in the SC section (with SC friends). After the game, we all walked out in silence before I spoke up. “I can’t believe UGA lost that game”, I muttered…….quickly followed by “I can’t believe we won that game” spoken by every SC fan in range.

I’ve never attended a game where UGA has given up more fluke, cheap or once-a-season type plays all in one game.

None of this matters ya know. The fluky win over a superior Georgia team didn’t count. Georgia won the East. uSC didn’t. Let it go.

“If you had played Arkansas, you would have finished 6-2 in the league.”

Maybe. Maybe not. Arkansas was a good team last year- not a great one. As much as we screwed around against Vandy and Ole Miss, the Hogs screwed around worse; they spotted the Ackbars a 17-0 lead and should’ve straight up lost in Nashville. They gave up about 900 yards in the air against aTm and should’ve lost that one too. Like us, they had a chance to prove themselves against a couple great teams and went completely splat.

That South Carolina didn’t bother showing up in Fayetteville is on Spurrier and the team, not us.

“You guys played rather poorly down the stretch – especially against UK.”

That game was hideous, but Georgia won by two scores and Kentucky had absolutely no chance of coming back in the fourth quarter against that defense. A week before, in what I’d consider “down the stretch,” Georgia depantsed the same Barn team that won in Columbia.

When did the Senator ever say UGA was better than SCU last year?
For that matter, where in the rules does it stipulate that the best team gets to represent the east in the SECCG?
You guys are all fired up about something that’s clearly defined in the rules as though it was just made up to benefit UGA.

OK, A scheduling advantage took UGA to the SECCG. It was a schedule created by the SEC and it was LAST season. We all need to get over it already.

Three simple facts. 1) What CocknFire wrote 2) UGA’s scheduling advantage 3) The schedule evens out over time (except for Auburn vs. Arkansas, of which Auburn is probably tougher since expansion, but close). There’s your discussion. I’ll trade our 2008 slate any time. But it will come again, soon enough.

Cocknfire is reasonable because he’s at Team Speed Kills. Hell even the Gator Year 2 sounds reasonable at Team Speed Kills. Those guys do a good job blogging the whole conference.

I would agree with you except for the fact that I think Georgia beat itself against you guys. Spurrier said as much after the game. On the sidelines and drum it up to ~0:23.

He said the same on the sidelines right after the game.

Funny that in a year when UGA lost to SCU on the field the Cock fans are still saddled with a reminder that Georgia is a better program and they are pathetic losers that haven’t ever won anything.

      Really loud.

The best team won the East last year, they probably will again this year. We just don’t know who that is for 2012, there wasn’t any doubt in 2011…except those who are still learning about big time football. Takes a while for fans to catch on I guess.

Complaining about the rules after you’ve lost is about as childish as it gets. You South Carolina fans knew the rules going in. Besides, do you REALLY believe you would have beaten LSU in the SEC title game? You should be thanking us for saving you from a 60-point beatdown. The only thing playing Arkansas did for you was to prove that you DIDN’T belong in the SEC title game…

After the South Carolina game, Georgia had the deck stacked against them. They knew they pretty much had to win out in order to have a chance to win the SEC East…and then they went out and did it. South Carolina knew they would just not have to lose more than one game, and they couldn’t get it done.

To put it more simply, Georgia went out and won 10 games in a row. South Carolina has never done that. Ever. Now you can go back not quite 15 years to when they were losing 10 in a row a couple of years…

After seeing all the continuing idiotic statements from SC fans and their HC you have to believe they have an ulterior motive. The argument is so silly, and laughable, they must be trying to amp up the fan base and team to take on a team they know they have to play up to in 2012. The 2010 winning of the East is looming as a fluke for them and they desperately need another East title to validate their program before they slide back behind TN in the division. They may never be relevant again if they don’t get back to Atlanta this year. Imagine facing the reality of their football past every single season, it could cause you to act foolishly.

Plus, how many more years can SOS be expected to coach and, particularly, to recruit effectively? After awhile kids will figure that he won’t be there much longer and they won’t go there. Then, back to the future.
