It’s been a long week, hasn’t it?
- More and more, it’s looking like… David Cutcliffe to Tennessee.
- When Doug Gillett did this three years or so ago, the results were classic. Make sure you vote your nominations early and often.
- I don’t guess that BCS boycott thing’s kicked in yet.
- Another possible round of playoff expansion, in baseball.
- The NCAA’s getting a lot of Ed Orgeron questions.
- The Secretary of Education wants to see the NCAA do something about rogue coaches.
- Georgia’s getting better odds to win the MNC in 2010 than Georgia Tech is. Even without a defensive coordinator.
- You’ve gotta feel a little for HeismanPundit – his beloved school has hired a guy he despises and all he can do is watch. And seethe.

UPDATE: Damn, Vol fans – when Cutcliffe turns you down, you’ve got troubles in River City.
I found it curious also that Kiffin said that he planned to call the plays at the same time (I assume) his school was trying to lure an offensive coordinator from their biggest rival.

David Cutcliffe the head coach scares me faaar less than David Cutcliffe the offensive coordinator. With the exception of Eli Manning, Ole Miss was average. As head coach, he reminds me a lot of Chan Gailey.
He’ll have better players in Knoxville, and his staff could have a lot to do with how well he recruits. But this is exactly the guy I wanted Tennessee to hire.

Well, one good thing is that Cut won’t have Willie Martinez to kick around any more.

How do they pick USC at 12/1 with Lame Brain at the wheel? Must have done the odds before the hire….

Pac Ten schedule, loaded talent-wise… They also get Oregon at home.
Non-conference is @Hawai’i, Virginia, @Minnesota, Notre Dame.
They’ll be in the title hunt going 12-1… so having 12/1 odds aren’t so bad.
To me, Texas at 5/1 is befuddling.

The Cutcliffe deal may eventually go down, but there are some ripples in the force over Cut bringing his staff from Duke.
If you will remember staffing issues caused Cut to get fired at Ole Miss. He does that loyalty thing, ya know?
I just hope Derek Dooley is not the fall back (fall back, back, back, back) position…not sure I could deal with that.

Ooops, the ripple may have turned into a tsunami.

Hamilton trying to dictate staff members?
As the hour glass turns, these are days of a Vol’s life.

Yesterday “Mike Hamilton moves on to Plan B” and loses the Air Force coach. Today he loses on his Plan C, Cutcliffe? If so, all signs point to this not being an especially good weekend for Mikey. He needs to get out of town and hunker down somewhere inside Opryland so the mattress burners can’t find him so easily.
Cutcliffe going back to rescue Hamilton who fired Cutcliffe’s friend Fulmer made as little sense to me as Norm Chow going back to rescue Lane and Mike Garrett who took Norm’s playcalling duties away from him.

I think it’s a waste of time for the oddsmakers to even break down the odds for South Cackalacky…

USC on bowl and tv probation per NYTimes. Perhaps this is why Pete left. If so, this might explain SC seeming so desperate as to hire Kiffin since no one else in their right mind would want to walk into a meltdown at USC. Why SC would want someone who has such a blatant disregard for rules is beyond me, especially now, but you get what you pay for — both in coaching and recruiting. Sadly, Kiffin could leave TN in a probationary situation as well.

Got a link for that USC probation? I can’t seem to find it.

Oh man, I saw it on rocky top talk but it is no longer there. I went to the Times to confirm and it is not mentioned on the sports page. I searched the Times and the reason it is not mentioned is that the article referenced in rocky top talk re probation is from 1982 and it only lists the name of the then president of the school. Sorry for the false information and jumping the gun. We both were duped.
