The recruit has stated (as I thought he might) that Meyer never told him or any of his high school coaches that he had had a “dream” about coaching Floyd.
Interestingly, while the initial story began on an Ohio State messageboard, Floyd blames the South Carolina website that wrote about the post.
“I’m looking at it as payback for not going to Carolina. The words never came out of my mouth. The only thing that’s true is that me and coach Meyer have been talking every week.
“He never said he would die for me. That’s a little over the top especially for me to go to Florida. I don’t think it’s that important that I would go to Florida. It’s untrue.”
Florida officials are “apparently furious over the blog publication and refute its veracity.”
So there you have it. Gator fans will believe the words of the actual recruit. Non-Gator fans will view those words as damage control and choose to believe the worst about Meyer.

No integrity? Meyer’s the one w/ no one integrity, and given recent circumstances there’s no reason in the world to NOT believe this story. The guy said God sent him a message to resign, and then God sent him a message to unresign. This guy’s theology seems so fluid and twisted, why NOT believe it when it’s said he told a recruit he’d die for him?
Furthermore, no Dawg fan is going to troll around on a the Gators Rivals board looking to verify a story like that. It’s not like the Senator was taking and running with the rumor on Gainesville radio the other day about Meyer and a 20-something year old student. THAT would qualify the proprietor of this blog has having no intergrity.

Frankly, with the denial of the player involved being posted as it is, even though I do not care for Urban Meyer I do not believe the story. There are plenty of things about Urban Meyer that warrant criticism and perhaps even revulsion but this is not one of those things.

Upset? More liked scared out of their minds. If Floyd was a random 3* recruit no one would have even bothered to make up this story and gullible (or not!!!) bloggers wouldn’t have linked to it (and made jackasses of themselves in the process).

That’s got to be it. Being upset with and scared of high-anxiety Urban are the only possible reasons anyone would ever have any doubt whatsoever about Urban’s credibility or integrity, or both.
For example, here’s what some think goes through Urban’s mind:

Funny that you’re accusing people of fabricating stories when it was only about a month ago that Meyer and UF fabricated a story about him going to the hospital for dehydration.

That story was not fabricated. Meyer did go to the hospital and he was treated for dehydration among other things.
The story released by UF was not complete but Meyer, just like everyone else, is entitled to his privacy and does not have to make his medical records public.

For your own sake (and personal growth) you should spend some time at EDSBS, a Gator website that makes light of college football and throws in some cogent analysis occasionally.
If that’s too daunting a task, then you should visit any Rivals site where you can lay the smack down on a “5 star can’t miss” D End that runs a 3.9 40 and other trivial nonsense. As it is, you’ll have your lunch eaten at GTP.

No. I don’t care about everything Urban does, just the high points such as his sense of humor and true humility. True, I may be pathological but, if so, Urban gets no credit for it.
To me with Urban, it’s satirical. It’s sarcastic. It’s great fun. And now that Lane has split, Urban gets a promotion from his status of being almost like a virtual al-Qaeda #2 during Lane’s year long reign of terror and hijinx back to being The #1 high-value target in my heart and minds. And after all when Urban can beat out Nick for being The high-value target, that’s shows that Urban breaks my boredom but not much more than Nick does.
By the way, most Georgia fans I know could not care less about Mark Richt’s entertainment value either. Why? Because he has none except for moving in slow-motion every now and then.

What does the Gator Nation have the thought police? They assign one of their agents to review all blogs for any disparaging remarks about their Beloved Leader. They then retaliate with witty comebacks like “so’s your coach”. You would think having won two MNC BCS four years they would be above all the petty enemies but no they are so insecure in their lofty position that they must react to any perceived criticism.

Par for the course. UF fans are, by and large, a special case and have been sorta step-brothers in the SEC since long before Spurrier made them successful. They are simply a different kind of animal down there in Gainesville, and the Internet serves to emphasize that fact. In my experience, encounters with UF fans have always been like travelling to a foreign country. They’re just different — and not in a good way.

Interesting observation NCT. I’ve lived and been friends with gator fans here in Jacksonville for years, and they’re mostly good people aside from football (Gator sports).
A little history of the Gator: Back in the 70’s and 80’s, they were the laughing stock of the SEC and college football. While Georgia and Bama were winning SEC Championships, Florida was always losing the big game. And when that wasn’t happening, they were doing stupid shit like 4th and dumb and getting nailed by the NCAA. They cheated, got caught, and still couldn’t win. But every year they would stick their chest out and tell you this was “their year” – very braggadocios. Then they’d proceed to get their asses kicked (again) and the cycle would repeat itself. They were most definitely the most ridiculous program in the south. And that includes Clemson.
Now smart-ass Spurrier came in and did very well, ran a clean program, and was typical Gator with his bitter smack and little-man personality. Gator fans loved to talk like Steve O’, and it fit them, for finally they had a team that matched their hubris. Finally, they were winners. But scratch the surface and you’ll quickly see just how thin-skinned and shallow they are. The embarrassment and bitterness from the old days remains, and is easily spotted when something backfires or negativity enters the picture.
You’d think they would act like winners and let the bullsh*t roll off their backs. But they don’t. They still behave like Johnny-come-lately – new money, so to speak. I’d like to think that Gator Nation grows up and learns to take it as good as they give it. But they won’t – they’ll always be that bastard stepdaughter that looks great and has big, fake tits. She should has confidence in her hotness, but her lack of self-esteem wins every time. She gets laid a lot – but she’s still a whore.

No. The reason the story has legs is because people want to believe the worst of other teams. Look at all the unsubstantiated rumors concerning Lane Kiffin and alleged personal indiscretions at Tennessee. Vol fans on the message boards believe them because they want to think the worst of Kiffin, not because of evidence or history (heck, he wasn’t there long enough to make a history).
When people want something to be true, they will convince themselves that it is t true regardless of a basis for belief. So, go ahead and think the worst of Urban Meyer; you’re going to anyway. Just realize that it’s bias on your part and not any personal failings on his part that’s causing you to despise him. You don’t even know the man.

Contrary to what you believe, and despite his best attempts, there are many Georgia fans that actually respect and like Spurrier. For me, I respected him b/c he ran a clean program, won a ton, and I liked him b/c he was politically incorrect enough to admit how much he hated other teams but still owned up to it when they/he lost.
With Meyer, however, opposing fans don’t see his mannerisms or style as they did Spurrier – ie, just a coach that loved to win. No, we all see Meyer as the ultimate mercenary. He’s the coach that will do absolutely anything, and I mean anything, to win. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if he faked his own death or something just so he could upstage the spotlight of a competitor. But he also fits the Florida model well b/c he’s so damned thin skinned and, at times, pitifully unassured. And that’s the dichotomy – a megalomaniac at times and a pathetic drama queen at others. The public doesn’t trust Meyer b/c he’s sneaky and doesn’t bring his lunch pale to work that way other equally successful and more humble coaches do.

Every time I read something about how “unethical” Meyer is it turns out to be false. I got ready to reply in the comments that what he supposedly said was uncalled for, but it was, of course, untrue.
Why not lay out your facts about why you think Meyer is “mercenary” or “win-at-all-costs”? I see a coach who works (perhaps too) hard and respects and loves his players.
BTW, I (and most Gator fans I know) had total respect for Richt until the unnecessary endzone celebration. That dropped him back a big notch.
