Not to nit pick, but it’s seems clear he wasn’t smoking: it was found wrapped under the back seat of the car. He could possibly even beat it in court, but I doubt that will keep him on the field for that first game. Reckon Ed Tolley speaks Alabama?

I thought the ‘detected an odor of marijuana’ meant they had been smoking it. I assumed they got rid of that evidence and that an ounce wrapped up underneath a seat wouldn’t be detectable by odor.. but since I don’t smoke J’s, I have to admit I probably wouldn’t know.

He was charged with a misdemeanor. In ole’ fart’s parlance that means “the more you miss , the meaner you get”. Sex, that is. Some would like to create a mountain out of a misdemeanor amount of pot. Get over it. Hell, even Pat Robinson thinks the possession of smokable amounts should be decriminalized.

Question from a Vandy fan who loves this site (or all perspectives unrelated to CJF): weren’t the ADs supposed to meet in New Orleans during the basketball tournamant to continue scheduling discussions? There were all kinds of reports following their meeting in Nashville the week before, but I haven’t heard a peep from anyone about any discussions that may have taken place in New Orleans.

I don’t think they’re close to a decision on this. There were probably some discussions held about it, but I don’t expect serious movement until the summer.

Ate breakfast and lunch at T-Rays on Saturday, so you can assume it was pretty darned good.
It was my first Concours and I enjoyed the hell out of it. May post a few pictures.
Also got to test drive the new 911S, which was great.
I don’t know how much of a car buff you are, but also available to test drive was the $1.3 million Bugatti Veyron. It’s billed as the fastest production car on the planet. The amusing part was that you couldn’t test drive the car without having a credit check run first.

1st time commenter, but avid reader. I read your blog every day while at work, I love it…keep up the great work! I work for said company (Porsche). I was suppose to make the trip down to Amelia, but my department backed out last minute. Very interested to hear about your experience in Amelia and the test drive.

Amelia, as always, was great. That was my first Concours and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will do it again.
As for my experience with Porsche, it was first-rate. Staff handled the crowd professionally and efficiently (it helped that we got there early enough to avoid the long waits). I drove both the 911S and the Panamera Hybrid. I wasn’t surprised at how composed the 911 is, but I liked the Panamera more than I thought I would.

I’m glad you enjoyed the test drive and experience with Porsche. If you ever get a chance to attend the Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance, I highly recommended it. It’s a one in a life time experience. If anything Porsche “test drive” event happen in Atl, I’ll be sure to let you know.

I happened to be out there that week seeing a customer a couple of years ago. He took me over to Carmel, and out to Pebble. I’m not a car guy, but I was pretty blown away by how awesome it was and some of the cars on display. I can assure you that you would be in heaven.

Given the widespread weed issue across colleges nationwide, it is time to implement a new testing policy. At UGA McGarity and Richt should test the entire team each and every time there is any weed related issue within the football program. Yes, this could possibly lead to crippling suspensions and devastating L’s. At least at first. But it could also lead zero weed related issues in the future. I am certain that Richt would never agree to this due to the potential player losses.

I agree. But do we want kids that are more concerned with smoking weed than playing football? Simple solution: if you do not smoke week, you will not get into trouble. If Lord Richt decrees this new testing policy to be for the greater good of the child (student-athlete), the media will praise him for his love of the child, and parents will hold him even closer to their heart.

Just do what we did and drink. When I was getting close to graduation and I knew drug tests were in the future, I decided that I would only alter my reality with booze, not that I smoked much anyway. Just seemed logical to me. I mean, they don’t test you for alcohol.

Hold off on weed testing until two weeks after Spring Break. Now if all D-1 schools submitted to it, that’s a toke of a different bong.

That is a solid idea as well. One question: Do the student-athletes know when they will be tested or is it random? I know that if they pop positive they are then tested on a regular basis. But that is all.

With our luck, all the DBs will test positive simultaneously as our RBs did last year. Kids are on Spring Break , drinking beer and smoking pot. What has this generation come to? !960s?

Unless I missed it I have a few questions and comments about Branden Smith’s arrest. Was the car his? What was the police reason for the stop in the first place? Was he charged with anything other than possession? If it was the other kids car I will bet you the cops ran the tag and found his recent arrest and pulled it over for that. I hope Smith has a good local lawyer so he can walk. The last thing you want is a hired gun from Athens or Atlanta.

Never heard of anybody being cited as too close on an interstate highway. And the tag light burning out on a 5-year-old car is exceedingly unlikely.

I kinda figured the “detected a strong smell of marijuana” thing was just the cop’s excuse to search the car of two young black guys driving to the beach.

I don’t know. I was pulled over on a freeway in Ca, early evening, and the cop asked what the horrible smell was. I pulled out a dead Cuban cigar I kept in the ashtray for such an occasion, showed it to him along with the glass vial it came in. But I was white, in my late fifties and with a suit and tie. I certainly didn’t fit the profile, intentionally. He gave me a safety warning to replace a burned out brake bulb that had just occurred because I routinely checked for such items to prevent cops from pulling me over unexpectedly.
I believe the kids lit up and the cop’s sense of smell.. They were just unlucky. Following too closely could have occurred when depth perception was affected by tetrahydrocannabinol.
I’m more concerned that Smith didn’t enjoy his Spring Break. I think all kids deserve to. Did you notice that no booze was involved?

For what it’s worth, I prefer US 27 through southwest GA as a route to PCB and the eastern gulf beaches. It parallels the bama route. I believe Michelle’s restaurant is still open in Lumpkin for a good meal. I’ve heard nothing but bad news about driving to the gulf through bama.

You certainly know your roads to PCB. That road is full of small town cops and sheriff’s deputies just itching to make a splash. Unless you know your small roads at Columbia and the Nuclear Plant, you can get lost trying to cross 84 and parallel the Chattahoochee south to I-10. Most kids get caught between Dothan and PCB when the speed limit goes from 65 to 55 to 45 and back up again going through small towns on 231 and even where there are no towns. Another profile is a Yankee license plate. Poor kids.
