Grantham says Georgia "really has just scratched the surface," on what it can do as a program.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I take those type of comments with a grain of salt. Need a better explanation. Twitter is not a reliable source of info.

Yeah, I know. In years past it has gotten me all excited about them Dawgs. Just to find out it was a tease and not the real thing. I’ll get hot when the real thing shows up.

Not about logic??? So you’re saying I shouldn’t bother trying to follow the plot line when I watch porn?

No, not about logic. In college football Tom, it is about writing a check that you KNOW your ass can cash.

Let’s say Richt steps down to go into the ministry in the next 3-4 years…Do you think McGarity tabs Grantham as the guy and sees this is his run in the minor leagues? Do you think Grantham sees/knows this is a possibility and sees the resources he would have available here if he patiently waits for this to happen? Or do I need to stop getting high on Grantham?

With all due respect, RPF, I think you need to step away from the monitor and breathe some fresh air. The Dawg porn seems to be affecting you too much.

That was my thought, too. Sounds like it’s spoken by someone who could be the next head coach.
Though I think (and hope) Richt stays around another ten years.

Maybe this will be a case of Grantham leaving for a small HC job in a few years, doing great, Richt retiring a few years later, and Grantham being brought back “home” to Athens.
Either way, the guy is probably everyone’s favourite UGA coach in the modern era.

Let’s not go into that haha. My feelings on the subject have caused me too much controversy here already.

Randall, as good as CTG has been at handling the defense he has shown very little of the skill set necessary to a HC. In fact, it isn’t even a program the size of UGA he couldn’t handle at this stage, I wouldn’t hire him at 1AA based on how he has reacted on the sidelines. Not saying he cannot work on weaknesses and improve but it would take several years of demonstrating change to convince me, and probably a stint at a lower level HC position.
Just like there were many UGA fans who got enamored about BVG, Grantham gets everyone excited and they overlook the requirements for being the top guy. Based on enthusiasm alone, Trooper Taylor would be a candidate for these folks. Please note that I am not comparing CTG with TT as a coach or a person, just noting the differences between being on the staff and managing the staff, plus so much more. Assistant coaches are the conduit to the head guy and showing enthusiasm and empathy is part of the role. Let the Vandy’s and UT’s of the world learn about having immature jerks as their HC. I expect more from the HC of the program I am affiliated with. (And the SC loss was definitely NOT on him as already stated below),

One of the radio guys here in SC commented on how unimpressed he was with Grantham. I’m sure he only saw us in the USC game so he’s an idiot. But going back and watch the D hold teams to negative rushing yards…that gets me more excited than all the previous flashy Off players we’ve had recently. That is football sexy.

I agree with you, but even if that was the only game he watched, it’s still a stupid observation.
I’ll say this for the hundredth time: The defense did everything it needed to do to win the game against SC last year. Offense (with awful turnovers) and special teams (with the infamous Ingram speedwalking touchdown, etc) cost us the game. Anyone who looks at the scoreboard, sees a bunch of points scored against Georgia, and concludes that Grantham and the defense didn’t do their jobs in that game … is, um, not very keen.

Just to play devil’s advocate, which is tough because I agree with most of your comment and really believe our Junkyard Dawg defense is gonna be great this year, but I was at the USCe game last year and I can’t get the visual out of my head of Lattimore running all over us. He was getting chunks of yardage and killing clock late in that game. Of course, I’d say that reflects less on our defense than it does how great that kid is. We owe all them ‘cocks an ass kicking this year!

AM doesn’t fumble – with Ingram returning for TD, we win. AM doesn’t throw a pick 6, we win. Ingram doesn’t score on fake punt, we win. Being devil’s advocate doesn’t mean changing the facts. Lattimore’s yards meant little to nothing in that game. The D was the only part of our team that showed up to play – but gets blame (or partial blame) for loss?!
Not much different than 2010, I’ll add. Everyone has memories of Lattimore running, but nobody says ship about an inept offense totally unprepared to play the game.

Exactly. Good post.
Lattimore will get his yards against just about any defense. We contained him quite well. We scored a lot of points yet blew the game on offense.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but I actually see this as a bit of a disappointment. Haven’t we all felt this to be the case for the last 5 years?

In other words, Georgia has been significantly underachieving for a long, long time.

Ha. After I read the statement I thought the same.
Grantham’s comment could be read as (1) “there’s so much potential just waiting to be unlocked!!” or (2) “the people running this place haven’t done sh*t with all the tools in this shed”.
I’m not sure which it is…

Agreed DP. 18-21 year old kids, beautiful women to chase at the 100’s of athens bars, not earning a paycheck and limited in practice time while playing in the hardest conference in the country- how hard should it be? Should be a piece of cake to get all 85 (72 in our case!) of them all on the same page and winning titles every year.
All kidding aside, I am fired up about this defense and I got all the faith in Grantham right now.

Have Saban and Myer always been douches? Or did winning create who they are today? I don’t remember much of either one prior to LSU and Florida?
