It’s official: Paul Johnson has a coaching tree.
Brian Bohannon has been named Kennesaw State’s first football coach.
Bohannon, who played at Georgia, has been an assistant coach in charge of quarterbacks and B-backs at Georgia Tech since 2008. Bohannon will be introduced at a press conference at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The Owls are expected to play their first season of football in 2015.
“He’s the perfect fit,” athletic director Vaughn Williams said. “He’s an up-and-coming coach. He’s been around success in a lot of different ways all his life. I think you are a product of your environment.”
Must… restrain… snark.
Seriously, that makes three programs in the state running the triple option. That’s got to be even better news for Tech’s recruiting in the next few years.
Hope Brian does well. Judging by the pic he has proved himself to be a DGD both on and off the field.

Brian could have easily made James Franklin’s short-list because of his “cougary wife.”

I’m a Griffin High grad as well, I didn’t know Brian but was only a year behind his younger sister and knew her in high school. His dad was still teaching and coaching when I came through, and he was/is a great guy. I hope Brian does well there, nice to have something that inspires some hometown pride.

If he’s going to run Johnson’s system, I gotta say, I think it’s a great fit for Kennesaw. That system is hell on teams that don’t have elite D-1 level athletes on defense, as we saw from Johnson’s years at Southern and Navy. Heck, it causes problems for top-level teams as well. It’s a system that takes athletes who aren’t necessarily elite and makes them dangerous. Plus, it adds some instability to Johnson’s staff, and that’s good for everybody.

When Athletic Director Vince Vaughn was asked about the most widely-accepted urban definition of the last in his string of the world of sports most used sayings, he said, “It is what it is. Are you that stupid? Brian knows about products. He is good in the math.”
“Product of the Environment: An expression that states that people may behave or act a certain way as a result of the environment they live in. So for example if someone lives in a poverty stricken area and cannot get a job, they may become a thief. If someone grows up in an environment such as Communist China, that person may become a Communist himself.”

Won’t that be four teams in states running the triple option? Tech, Southern, State, and Kennesaw State? But yeah. Three other programs in state, two of which are in the metro area. That will be GREAT for Tech.

Is Georgia State running the t/o? I thought they hired the former BC head coach as the OC.

Yes Ga. State hired Jeff Jagodzinski former BC HC. He was Matt Ryan’s coach.

I went to elementary school with Brian. His dad coached the Griffin Bears which were pretty good for a stretch there. Coaching is the family business.

Good for Bohannon. Didn’t he have a great TD catch against fu – in a win! He should do great with all the athletes available around here. Since KSU is nearby, we’ve been looking forward to attending some future games.
Going from gtu with about 15% female (many of whom used to be guys judging from appearance) to KSU with about 75%+ babes.

It’s actually 60% babes at KSU, but who’s counting.

Why do they even have a QB coach a Tech? Seems like the RB coach would be a better choice.

Tech had a QB coach? Seriously?! What would he do, teach them how to take a snap? Work on their shot-put throwing motion? Explain how a deep interception is as good as a punt?

He will begin by teaching them to count to 4.

I don’t know about the Genius’ coaching tree, but what about Goff’s former players: Bobo, Kirby, Muschamp, Bohannon and I don’t know if T.Jones is back in.

Maybe in addition to playing they had to coach themselves, which gave them early on the job training?

Instead of a spring game, all 3 teams doing the Johnson could meet and have a round-robin wishbone “jamboree”

Don’t get your hopes too high. Gnats owned the Owls in both Men’s and Women’s lacrosse.
