I’m guessing you can strike Marshall Morgan from the list of those suiting up for the Clemson game.

UPDATE: A vote for Adam Erickson.

UPDATE: More arrest details here. Evidently, Morgan played the “f” card.
Stanford stated in the incident report that fellow DNR ranger Jeremy Reese “informed me that Mr. Morgan had asked him if ‘football’ could help him out while we were still in the boat.”
No word on whether the ranger explained to him he wasn’t in Tuscaloosa.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they press Barber into temporary duty. Plus, I think Erickson’s still around. Maybe he can do it.

It makes for an interesting summer subplot. SOD will tell you that there are harder things than finding a replacement kicker. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2011/nov/06/dooley-summons-kicker-from-frat-house/

We have two other PKs on the roster. Patrick Beless and Thomas Pritchard. Pritchard was a scout team member, so my guess is Beless unless Barber gets asked to pull double duty.

I love this idea. We statistically should convert greater than 50% of them. Would make a high scoring game much more interesting.

Exactly! Just go for it on 4th down in field goal situations. Always take the 2-point conversion. Onside kick every time. We really don’t need a kicker. I’ll bet our net-net will be the same or better….WOOF!

I admit I have think alcohol laws in this country are over the top, and also admit I have been in violation of them, but I don’t feel sorry for Morgan. He knew the rules, he knew we are a zero tolerance program, the people I feel sorry for are the real team members who are working their butts off to realize a dream and not being selfish. It would be easier to if the level field was level for all programs, although we would still need a new kicker on August 31. And maybe that same kicker might be be kicking for us the first week of December.
I don’t doubt Morgan tried his best last year but I am convinced that with 26K+ students and two months before opening kickoff, we can find a and adequate replacement. Time to beat the drums loudly around the soccer fields and see who wants to play a major role in contributing to an SEC championship. All hands on deck!

You think Marshall knew that the BUI laws changed last month and that the presence of alcohol would no longer be tolerated on the water? I didn’t know that.
Maybe we should insist all of our players also memorize the tax code and the new Obamacare law. I would hate for one of our players to get nailed for violating some obscure statute on page 36,251 of the HHS regulations. How selfish would that be?
LikeLike
Drinking under age 21 is a violation of the law? How technical is that? I clearly stated I don’t agree with the alcohol laws in this country, but to pretend this is complex is silly. We have had players miss a game before for having one beer but being under age.

Ignoring the “political” mnc comment, what exactly would you propose UGA do about deliberate actions that violate team and societal rules? Do we wait for 10 failed drug tests? Do we let child rape occur in the showers and not report for over a decade? Do we allow boosters to buy used equipment from players for resale? Allow boosters to pay off debts on a parent’s business/church? Should we get involved in covering up a rape investigation and let the victim commit suicide? Is there a line you ever draw to pursue a title? Or is it arbitrary because of the fans’ desire to have temporary bragging rights on a mythical title you sold your integrity to obtain?
I hate that some sell their soul, but I am proud we don’t, I wish some laws were different but I believe we need to change them, not act like they don’t apply. I wonder if Urbie wishes he had tried to make a difference in his star’s life instead of pad his resume. Certainly there are Dawg fans who would do anything for a title, I am not one of them and feel proud that UGA’s leaders feel the same way. In no way do I feel what Morgan did was anywhere near that serious but he ignored the rules and let his team down. Just because Clemson and SC are the first 2 games doesn’t make any difference, standards should not be bent or we are no better than those mentioned above.

Good point. There is no room in college football for judgment. Either the law must take away our discretion, or school policy must take away our discretion. Certainly, if we rely on someone as foolish as Mark Richt to decide whether a 19 year-old drinking a beer is as bad as child rape, we’ll have nothing but chaos! For our coaches’ and administrators’ own good, we can’t allow them the liberty to sell their souls.
Better to suspend every player on the team for some stupid violation of rules or etiquette than to risk turning Athens into some kind of lawless, Mad Max wasteland.
LikeLike
Yes, all college coaches have demonstrated excellent judgment. You are right. Urbie, cheetzik, carroll, tressel, paterno, etc., have all proven trustworthy. Let them self regulate. Beautiful.
LikeLike
Policies and procedures didn’t prevent any of those coaches’ transgressions. You think additional policies and procedures would have? Exactly how many “please report child rape in the showers” rules do you think a football program needs? But we’re talking about suspending kids. It does not follow that, because Florida will excuse bad behavior, that Georgia will as well. But I would like to see Richt have some flexibility to recognize that some transgressions are worse than others.
I understand that you think that legislators and administrators are wiser than coaches. I just don’t see why.
LikeLike
Actually, I don’t think that at all. I do think Richt is far wiser, and more honorable than the vast majority of Top 20 coaches, and capable of making a fair distinction between minor and major offenses. My feeling would be to have high standards, enforce them fairly and consistently, and allow judgment in setting the punishment. But the lack of character among so many members of the coaching fraternity, and total lack of integrity amongst fan bases as they apply pressure to do whatever it takes to win requires there to be very little discretion granted. Don’t get me started on the qualities of legislators and educators in this country and the path they have led us down (collectively speaking, of course.)

The green fields are getting dispersed or are underground. Latest tactic by “bushers” is to trim such as to make the plant get no taller than 3′ and spread out such that it no longer looks like a pot plant. The buds become more numerous and wheras you could get several donkey dicks from one plant it now is possible to get shorter ones numbering over 50/plant. For my own use, I have several placed in western-facing reeds and follow their progress through binoculars. When one begins to show above, I row out, fish the area and trim subtly when my plug gets “accidently” caught near them. It’s normal (if someone sees you) to be wrestling with the reeds while untangling your plug. It’s all done in front of God and everybody. Your view of the sky is unimpeded even if the Thump! Thump! Thump! of the rotar blades are silenced.

One 4th of July weekend, about 5 years ago, I was on a boat on Allatoona when we were “pulled over” by DNR. Everyone except the owner had been drinking. They searched the boat, checked all ids…the full meal deal. I don’t know how, but the lenses for the bow light were swapped. The owner didn’t know as he’d only had the boat a couple weeks. DNR didn’t care because they made us swap them right there on the water and STILL wrote the owner a citation. It’s always about revenue generation under the guise of safety.
This doesn’t have much to do with this story other than you best have your shit together while on a lake around the 4th.

Yeah, I know. To my shame, I spent 3 years in Athens and never once got on that lake. However, as a long term Allatoona veteran, you can not even try to fudge those laws. Sucks that a college level athlete, whom I am guessing is probably 195-205lbs, can blow what amounts to 3 beers worth and get a potentially life changing charge. ONLY in Athens.

I reluctantly agree with ScoutDawg. How asinine is it to have these mandatory suspension rules for relatively minor infractions when no other teams do the same thing. This places our UGA at a recruiting disadvantage. Back when VD was the coach this sort of thing was handled by running the stadium, etc. If the rules we have now were in place back then Jake Scott and a whole host of former Georgia stars would never have played a single down.
