He may know where to go with the ball on every play, the question is can his body execute the throw to make the play successful? Stafford made a lot of plays purely on arm strength where Murray has decent arm strength AND the knowledge of where to put the ball.

How So? Against NEBRASKA Mason threw for 320 yards when we rushed for 96. Lotta drops…. especially the last one. It was his worst game of his 2.5 game season. qb rating of 126 on 1 TD and 1 INT. Murray’s worst game was against vandy. 107 yards passing with 114 rushing. Qb rating of 84. O TD and 1 INT. ——->Spring game kool aid all around. Drink up. Refills free. 😉

Agreed. Also, the rain didn’t help. Also, defense giving up a 99-year touchdown didn’t help.

Ya know, I watched YouTube highlights of the tenn game from last yr just last nite & thought “Self, U’ve let yourself grow accustom to all this accuracy & decision making. U know things will be different this coming season”.
I hope I’m wrong & CMR is not just pulling my leg here.
Also – if Murray had of just scored on that long run to end the 3rd quarter I think that would have been his ‘Legacy Play’ if you will. Still an excellent game for him.

For real. We’ve been spoiled by a QB who makes excellent decisions. Mason’s interception against Tech was a real head scratcher but it is one of those things that most QBs do. We’re going to have to get accustomed those bad, but hopefully infrequent, decisions again.
Not knocking Mason because most QBs do them, but AM spoiled us

Murray was a great decision maker, no argument here. But if you think he never made a bone headed decision which cost us you are fooling yourself. He improved greatly as time passed, and Tech was Mason’s first game starting in college. EVER. Let’s give him some more time before pulling hole ‘we’ve been spoiled’ card.

dude, chill. Aaron Murray was a four year starter, and his bad decisions were few and far between his last two years. Mason just doesn’t have that experience under his belt like Murray had this past year, so it’s not ridiculous to think he won’t be as good in that regard.
It isn’t a knock on Mason as much as it’s high praise for AM11.

I agree with 202dawg. Leaving a performance on a good note leaves a much better lasting impression, no matter what the total body of work shows. (I’m not saying AM wasn’t awesome) There were times in 2010, 2011, and even 2012 where he could make the most ridiculous decisions. A few that come to mind are the 2011 SCAR game, 2011 SEC Championship, and the first halves of 2011 and 2012 Florida games. To his credit, he also bailed himself – and the team – out of some really tough ones during that time as well. If Mason can cut down on the disasters, I’ll be happy.

His entire 2013 campaign was great (up until the injury) in no small part due to the vast experience he had gained the previous three years. If you honestly don’t think there’s going to be a drop off between a four year starter at the helm and a four year back up, I don’t know what else to say.

“History remembers better than it lived.” When we lost the 2010 OT game to Florida there was much angst and gnashing of teeth. I think it was around that time that the crayon meme got traction. And then there were doubts if Murray could indeed win the big game. BS of course but it is what it is. Murray: OT interception ‘my worst nightmare’

Quarterback Aaron Murray on throwing an interception in OT: “It was my worst nightmare, especially to know that my team had worked so hard to come back. I tried to get it out before [A.J. Green] made his cut, and I threw it a little bit behind him. . . . At first I thought the tip [by Florida linebacker Jelani Jenkins] would just put it on the ground. But Florida has great athletes, and if there’s a tipped ball still in the air, they’ll find a way to come up with it.”*

Agreed. That run was fantastic. I’m really ashamed to admit that I was so sick to my stomach because of that game that I turned it off (not because I was mad but because I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle seeing us lose that game like that) and had to watch Murray’s heroic overtime on DVR.
We’re going to miss him a lot, but I think Mason will be more than okay.

Can’t Hutson see the field better than Aaron? That, along with 4 yrs experience with the team and signal calling should be worth a vote of confidence.

Mason seem to feather the ball on screen passes and as Artie Lynch found out, can hit the ear hole of an open receiver who isn’t but should be looking. Hope mason is as tough cause Murray was Nails.

Sure we have been spoiled by QB play in the Richt era. But even Aaron Murray had turnovers in critical moments just like all qb’s do. Mason only needs to get the ball to our playmakers and try not to force the ball where there is nothing there. I strongly believe we will win the east with mason as our Qb. Faton and Ramsey are not ready to be the big dawg this year.

Off topic, but Malcolm Mitchell. What a great accomplishment for him if he could get through the year intact, and what a weapon. The winning TD against Fla in 2012 was a clinic of talent and acceleration.

Say it with me dawg fans…Murray was a good QB. You can do it. He doesnt play for UGA anymore, you can say it. You dont have to worry about jinxing it, or having people think less of you. Aaron Murray was a good QB. Come on now. Just say it.
That some of you will go so far out of your way to complain about a player like Murray is laughable.

I want to see HM throw the back shoulder pass. That was AMs bread and butter and is almost impossible for db to stop. Have not seen HM throw many of those
