Georgia and Notre Dame are moving closer to a football series “later this decade,” Georgia athletics director Greg McGarity said Tuesday. And while no deal is done, and McGarity cautioned that there could be snags, he made clear that he would be eager for it to happen.
“I think it’s an opponent we’ve played, what, one time? 1980? For our fans to be able to go up to South Bend, and for our fans to see Notre Dame play between the hedges, I think from a national perspective it’d be off the charts, as far as interest, as far as intrigue,” McGarity said. “That would be something out of the ordinary that our fans would be very, very excited about.”
The two schools haven’t nailed down which years it would be, but McGarity said it would be in the range of 2017-20. Notre Dame would visit Sanford Stadium, and Georgia would visit Notre Dame Stadium.
If they actually pull this off, what are the odds VanGorder will still be there when they play?

What time of the year in South Bend? Coldest we’ve ever been….ice 1inch thick on the concrete where your feet were….burrr! Touchdown Jesus was even cold!!! But a great experience…and would be for the Dawgs!!

We’ll have to double down on a heaping of Northwest directional state and the Tennessee school for the blind to counter playing Notre Dame

I am all for this, just I am all for sleeping with Kate Upton. Sadly, I have a better shot of having sex with Kate than making the trip to Soith Bend to watch the Dawgs play ND.

And it will be cheaper by then to have sex with Kate Upton than go to South Bend for the game.

WTF?!!!! You’ve got NO chance with Kate, Skeptic-Breath. If I catch you sniffing around her it’ll be the last sniff you make–at least until the bones in your nose heal!!

So Jeer, Jeer for Old Notre Dame!

Would love to see it happen. It would be more than cool to see those gold helmets between the Hedges and the power G at the House that Rockne built.
Hopefully the playoff will drive all teams to play a minimum of 10 major schools from one of the conferences and/or Notre Dame. Personally I would prefer 11 with one cream puff sometime during the season.
With Florida announcing they won’t play any more FCS teams (I know…start the snickering), maybe but just maybe we can start eliminating some or even most of those games.

The Tech fans will reprise the old “Catholics vs. Convicts” canard.

Speaking of Tech fans and ND, I saw a shirt a Techie was wearing that said “Rudy was offsides”.

Actually that was ND-Miami, not tech…

BVG still at Notre Dame in several years? Heck he hasn’t stayed in one spot for more than several months since he left Athens.

Chances of VanGoner being on either sideline are about the same as O’Leary’s.

The old McGarity cancelled games with a couple of our higher profile opponents (Oregon, Louisville) so he could schedule more cupcakes at home. I guess that didn’t really work out the way he had hoped. If we’re not going to get nine games then I hope we schedule more high profile opponents. I know they SAY they will, but saying and doing are two different things.

I am not sure why the Oregon series was cancelled, but I “think” the Louisville deal was because of the game against Boise and the chicken folks worked it out/got replacement teams, etc… ?
