Tyler catches this “ah, he wasn’t that bad” piece about Grantham that almost reads like something a troll would post in a comment thread here and has some fun with it. But there’s something bigger I’m curious about. It’s obvious we’ve got a few Georgia bloggers following Louisville’s season with interest, but is there more general interest than just us? How many of you are going to add Louisville watching as a hobby this season?
Maybe I should add a recurring defensive comparison post to the blog this year.
I plan on sneaking a peek each week. At the very least i’ll be checking their defensive stat lines after their games.

I think I’ll probably take a peak or two this year. I don’t have any ill will or animosity toward Grantham. I liked some things about him. I think him getting in the face of James Franklin was awesome as was when he told the UF kicker he was going to “fucking choke.” I don’t think he was a great coordinator, but for the situation we were in at the time, he was probably the best we could get.

Just read the article. I think Mr Moore needs to look into the talent he had when he had those okay defenses. A good D Coordinator would have had those guys at the top of most if not all categories.

2012 was particularly baffling, although I must admit I’m one of those guys who has faith in Richt to lead the program as he sees fit. I don’t really have any animosity towards Grantham either, although I didn’t really appreciate the Florida thing. Having intensity was good (and needed). Trolling a 20 year old as a representitive of UGA was embarassing. The James Franklin thing was pretty cool though if not over the top. I thought Grantham was sticking up for his kids.
I think we’re seeing a different kind of intensity from Pruitt. Instead of aimlessly screaming at and demeaning the kids, I think he’s more concerned with getting his point across. I love the interview with Loran yesterday where he wants the defense’s play to do the talking. I don’t care who starts or when we name starters, but could we just be salty for once? We’ll see I guys. Cautious optimisim from me.

I think the whole Louisville drama this year is going to be nauseating. But yeah…I’ll watch them. I think Grantham’s shots from his initial press conferences are the reason.
Btw- how do you let your son play for Petrino? I hate that Trigga went to play for the War Tigers, but I at least respect that…I don’t understand the logic from JHC and Wiggins thinking that a Petrino program would be good for them.

Grantham turned me off with his friggin’ excuses. There was nothing manly nor was any responsibility taken with his excuses. Same ol’, same ol’ after each game. I felt conned. The excuses didn’t hold up when taken apart and compared statistically by qtr. I really don’t desire to see Louisville fans go through another clusterfuck facade by this guy.
He is part of our history. Adios.

Louisville hired Bobby Petrino…surely the fans expect to be lied to already.
I am going to watch if they are on and our guys aren’t playing…out of sheer, morbid curiosity. It is going to happen–Bobby and Todd are going to clash during games. I’ll watch for no other reason than the bright red faces and mean scowls they would be sending each other.

I still blame that nonsense on Franklin. He was looking for a cameo moment where he could sell his we don’t back down meme to the TV crew. With his players in tow he went over to the Georgia side line to straighten things out. Glad it didn’t get worse than it looked. He’s a player and he played his way into a gig with Penn State. At least the kids are safe. I’m not so sure about the coeds and coaches’ wives though.

The advantages that we hope to achieve with Pruitt are in teaching and in recruiting not so much in scheme or in the dc’s understanding of defense. I never felt that ctg didn’t know what he was doing. I thought Corey Moore and Mauger had no idea in hell what he was saying to them. I think the guy would be better off in the nfl but if UL is putting up 30 plus a game they are going to be player in the acc. We’ve had far worse dcs at georgia. Marion Campbell? Anyone remember Marion Campbell? Perhaps my perspective is jaded by having watched live and in person as jay barker threw for just under 400 yards against us in 1994. For those us who maltriculated during the goff years, well, we know from bad coaching.
I will say though that the best thing I’ve heard about priuitt was that brother bill Oliver is his mentor. That guy was to defense what bill Walsh was to offense: a damn genius. Everyone else played checkers while that guy was playing three dimensional chess. I’ll take a brother bill disciple over a Saban one every day.

Yeah, and the notion that 4, 4, and 5 games where the D gave up more than 30 points in the preceding 3 years is acceptable is total nonsense, too. That’s 21 games out of 52 games (including games against walkover opponents–about 10) where the UGA D gave up more than 30 points during Grantham’s tenure. I didn’t look it up but I feel certain that is the most games with 30 or more points given up by our D in a 4 year period in history. Also, that means that more than half the time when the Dawgs D under Grantham played a respectable D-IA opponent (and I’m including UK, Missy State and teams of that ilk) the D gave up more than 30. Wow, what an abortion Grantham’s tenure was.

I’d be interested in seeing how that compares to other teams currently and historically in this age of the spread.

I wouldn’t do a comparison. All this Grantham talk reminds me of someone obsessing over an ex-girlfriend. Sad. It’s not there yet, but at some point it will cross that line. Time to move on. Plus I can barely spend enough time following UGA.

I tend to agree with garage. I’m glad we’re rid of Grantham, to be sure. It was time for him to go, simple as that. But I can’t say that I wish failure to always follow him around. He just doesn’t mean anything to me anymore. Besides, there is nothing about Grantham’s character that I’m aware of that smells anywhere near as bad as Petrino’s. BP’s the guy that I won’t be too disappointed in seeing him fail.

Was going to say the same thing. We dated a hot chick who sucked in the sack. Our fanbase just can’t seem to get over it and move on.

I must be in the minority, but I think Louisville D will be pretty good this year and not surprised if better than ours. I have a great deal of respect for Charlie Strong as a defensive coach. I think the players that he left behind are skilled enough, disciplined enough, and have the fundamentals already drilled into them so they will over come any poor coaching to a degree.

I must be in the minority, but I think Louisville D will be pretty good this year and not surprised if better than ours. Strong is gone. Who was it Southern Miss? that went from a conference championship to 1 or 2 wins with about same players that cost the new HC his job?
Cards ran a 4-3 base for 4 years under Bedford. Just how quickly the players master CTG system could go a long way toward determining whether Louisville can equal last season’s D success. There are different skill sets required by the 3-4 and the 4-3. I don’t think Todd has mastered the art of teaching football to college players since his departure from the Georgia sidelines. Neither do I believe that Louisville recruits better and smarter players than the University of Georgia or that the arm waving and time outs to get lined up will disapear. Judging by the spring game 951 total yards, *542 passing yards with 4 touchdowns and new quarterback.Petrino did that to a 4 year veteran SEC coach after being out of coaching for 4 years and one year coaching at Western Kentucky.
I think we see a lot long pass completions against Louisville in 2014. Not sure if Todd keeps the towel boy though.

Georgia and Louisville only have one opponent in common this year: Clemson. I’d compare those defensive stats. Otherwise it’s apples vs oranges, so no.

The fun thing would be watching Petrino’s offense shred Grantham’s defense on a daily basis. I think the friction between them probably stems from Petrino seeing that 3rd and 15 is an easier down than 3rd and 4. I am hopeful that I don’t have to dread our D on third and long like last year. That was football hell.

I won’t keep up with him on a regular basis, but if the Louisville defense turns out to be good I’ll know we don’t have the talent we think we have or we are recruiting a bunch of dummies on defense.

I like watching cfb as much as possible, so I’ll be tuning in to L’ville occasionally to see what’s happening. Of course UGA is front & center, so I won’t have much time to dwell on CTG’s goings-on. Whether the Senator does a comparison or not, I have a feeling we’ll be reading a lot about L’ville, petrino, and CTG this season.

I get that people are glad that Grantham is gone. But damn let it go. Was he a great coach for us? No. Is he a bad person throwing people under buses. No. He can’t be as terrible at coaching as we like to think. Hell he worked in the NFL for a number of years. Owners make a living hiring and firing there.

SOD was a HC and AD with a mediocre record before he went to uT. And is now hired by those NFL owners. Todd’s been fired from the NFL before.
