I’ve known about something for a while that I’ve kept under my hat in order not to jinx it: our man Hoppy, star of stage and screen, is coming for the opener against Clemson to take in his first game between the hedges.
I promised the man at the time that if he ever showed up here, he’d never have to buy a beer in this state and I intend to keep up my part of the bargain. In that spirit, I’ve invited him to my modest tailgate that day. He’s accepted. So what the hey, you’re invited, too.
This will be a completely ramshackle affair, befitting me and the blog. You’re welcome to come, but bring your own consumables – and some beer for the man and his four-person group, all of whom contributed to the making of the video.
We’ll be set up somewhere in the railroad lot just up the street from the stadium (I think it’s Lot 29). Hoppy, as you might expect of someone who’s making his first pilgrimage to the Classic City, has several stops to make, so he won’t be spending his entire day with us. But we’ll get some sort of formal time arranged for anyone who’d like to know when to come by and meet. In other words, there will be a follow-up post or two about this. Basically I just wanted to get an early word out.
Hope to see some of you there.
Right on. Thanks Hoppy! And if I end up making it to Athens for the game (still working on tickets) then I’ll swing by. It would be fun to meet not only you, Bluto, but also a lot of the other commenters, especially those with whom I frequently disagree. I’m much more pleasant in real life than I sometimes come across in the comments, fortunately 🙂

I believe that goes for most of us. I know I’ve winced when looking back at some of the junk I’ve typed via the internet. Meeting someone in person is always a good idea. Well, almost always.

DANG, I’m a no go for the game, but would love to stop by some time this year if I am lucky enough to get some tickets.

Twistification, I live in NC and have season tickets(4). There are times I can’t make it down to Athens. If you need tickets in the future, let me know. I’m all taken for Clemson though. NCDAWG(that girl on the blog occasionally)

Thanks! Would love to head up there this year. Young family makes it a little difficult, but I got no real excuse for being away from Athens for so long.

Roger that. You planning on hanging a sign out front? I think a picture of the Godfather and Dooley, like the one on the blog here, would do nicely.

That’s a good thought. I’ll at least have a “GTP” sign up, I think.

The fact remains, that Mettenberger was 6-10 for 150 yards in the 2010 G-Day game and we’d won a NC if he started over Murray, blah, blah, blah…..

I wonder if Cojones will bring brownies? 😉
LikeLike
Thanks. I was going to post it last tonight, but I won’t bring brownies. They are suspicious. So I’m bringing surreptious cookies (you know – kids, lawmen, judges and other occupations who would object would be there and I wouldn’t dream of such a faux pas. I’m cool about pot when not having fun on this blog).
Unfortunately, I’ve been told by the doc to limit my trips or stop every 50-60 miles to discourage blood clots. Even though I’m taking anticlotting meds, it’s too early in my regimen for trips of any length.
If someone would give Hoppy, his wife and/or entourage my regards, I would appreciate it. If he’s ever near Big Timber, let me know. My son and one of his good buddies there are Dawg fans and you can’t meet enough of them in that territory.
And thanks to you, Mike, for the daring invitation. There is no doubt in my military mind that everyone will live up to your social expectations. This is a decent bunch that I’d like to meet as well. Yall have a happy tailgate and if you have trouble, I know a prominent barrister who practices in town.
