Gawd, this sounds so much better coming from a Clemson player’s lips:
“I feel like 45 points in no way dictates our defense at all,” junior safety Robert Smith said. “Because I’ve seen how far we’ve come throughout the summer. We know we’re better than that.”
That’s a song we heard sung plenty of times last year.
i like this quote even more:
“Georgia gained 211 yards in the fourth quarter. Clemson moved 19 yards in the fourth quarter – in reverse. “

Clemson punted 10 times. In the previous 6 seasons, that has only happened against Coastal Carolina, Louisiana-Lafayette, Buffalo and North Texas.

Does he realize we could’ve had 52 if we wanted it? We took a knee inside the 5 or 10 at the end of the game after running it down their throat the entire drive.

Actually, the most heartening thing about that last drive was that we would have scored if not for the illegal motion penalty. Richt was really going for the jugular last night. I think he realizes that style points and margin of victory are going to be important because of the playoff selection committee’s criteria of performance against common opponents.
At least I hope that’s the case.

I too noticed that Evil Richt made an appearance last night. I was surprised – pleasantly so – that he opted to keep piling it on at the end.

Richt want going for the jugular. We had just worn down Clemson to the point that “keeping the ball on the ground to eat clock” turned into fifty yard strikes

Wasn’t* not want

And the side line shots of him smiling almost seemed evil too. He has the look of a man who has found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

UGA is 12 yards shy of exceeding its total punt return yards from the 2013 season. UGA amassed 73 punt return yards last season (including the bowl game),

How do the other defenses on our schedule stack up vs Clemson’s? SC’s didn’t look good. Florida, maybe? Was last night the best defense we’re going to see this year?
And I still think Tigers have a good defense, but nobody would have fared well playing that many snaps against a strong running game in that heat.

Florida has the best defense we will play. After that it drops off quickly. Clemson’s defense was 53rd in the nation last year in run defense, and we exposed them last night.

Almost certainly, by the time we play them, Auburn will be pretty good, too. Tennessee has lots of good athletes, and Missouri is gonna be pretty good defensively, also…pick your poison, there is no “best defense we will play” The only thing that matters is the defense we play next.

Auburn hasn’t been really good on D since Tubberville was shown the door. They had a great pass rush last year (and 2010) but I saw little of that vs Arkansas (not that they needed it, as bad as Arky is at passing)

I thought Clemson was actually a pretty good team. Competitive game until the fourth quarter when the body shots we’d been giving in the third finally took their toll. The Clemson front 7 had nothing left in the tank by the fourth, it was like us in the 06 Tennessee game.

Time will tell, but I think Clemson is good too. And their defense is very good, and they’ll demonstrate that going forward.
