Belk, you’ve been handed a helluva marketing opportunity. It’s kismet. Don’t waste it.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Senator…
This is a crap bowl. A crap opponent with shades of the 2010 Liberty Bowl written all over it…we gain nothing in a win and lose everything in a loss.
I know the team wanted either the Citrus or Outback…better bowls, better weather better swag…

Then they should have beaten Tech.

Oh I agree…HOWEVER explain to me how AU gets the Outback?

I can’t.

The answer is probably in the projected TV ratings.

The butt smear group must have requested the bell bowl. The press release was real high on how nice the city is with lots of stuff to do. How else does auburn get the outback when Uga beat them head to head and is ranked 6 spots higher.

Because we’ve been to the Outback Bowl a ton in the past few years and they were worried about us traveling to Florida AGAIN for another match up with a Big something team AGAIN. So they passed on us.
Is that valid? In my mind, kinda.

For the record…we’ve been to the Outback Bowl once in the last ten years.

^ this is why you should double check your facts before you post.
A more complete thought woooould be for the past 3 years in a row we have traveled to Florida to play a Big 10 team and the Outback bowl might have been afraid of us travelling for the game. To extend the record a little further, we have played a Big 10 team in a Florida bowl 4 out of the past 6 years. So I can kinda see where fan fatigue would be a concern, especially after how we b!tched last year about the Nebraska rematch.
But yes. You are correct. We’ve only played in the Outback Bowl 1 time in the past decade.

It would be better than watching Grantham handle bobo. I hope bobo dials up 50 on him.

Maybe not, but after watching what I did last night, Chubb and company might set an NCAA record against Wisky. Going to Charlotte is a joke. We are probably the highest ranked team to play in that garbage bowl.

Dawgs did well against Ron Dayne (’97) and whoever was RB for them in ’04 Cap One. And with a fencepost for a QB like Wisconsin has the strategy seems straightforward.

I am pretty excited about the belk bowl. Trip to Florida meant nothing to me. Trip to Charlotte should be fun. NoDa brewing is good beer and really only available in Charlotte. It’s 4 hours from the house and a decent hotel room is available and less then $200.
So not upset about the outback bowl skipping us for Auburn.

Glad it works out for you. My brother should be able to go since he is 2 hrs from Charlotte.

I like it.
Considering we weren’t getting a New Year’s 6 game, I think this is about the best draw we could have hoped to get. It’s almost as good as getting Notre Dame. I’m just glad we aren’t stuck in Florida playing Wisconsin again.

And if the Peach Bowl had been the destination? … this season, anyway, I’d just as soon let a riled up TCU take its anger out on Ole Miss.

Agreed. I traveled there for work and it is a nice town. Can’t say I would consider going to Outback against Wisconsin.

Maybe Grantham will attack CMR after the game when we beat them or give Marshall Morgan the choke sign before he kicks a 61-yarder to break Butler’s record.
All we have to do is run the zone read. Grantham never figured it out his whole stay in Athens.

That and the wheel route should be open all day.

Or kneel in the victory formation 3 times then throw it on 4th and 13. Too bad JHC can’t tip it to Conley or Mitchell

That or give up 3rd and 22 … The tip play would only be able to work if Lakatos were on Grantham’s staff 🙂

People need to understand the new system. This new deal, while good for better “made for TV match-ups” in the Jan. 1 bowls, also hurts the SEC. While there might be an occasional season we get a boatload of teams in the access bowls, most years will be just like this. We LOST the Cotton and CFA/Peach bowls as automatic bids. In past years, we’d have seen Miss. St. in the Sugar and Mizzou and Ole Miss in the Cotton and Citrus. That’d leave the Outback, Gator and CFA with UGA, Auburn, and LSU. We’d have probably stayed in Atlanta.
But the Cotton doesn’t have an SEC team. We lost that bowl to the ‘access’ bowls. That’s why the SEC added the Belk Bowl. The truth is, this is very good for the Belk and Music City Bowls. They’ve taken a tremendous step up in regard to the teams they’ll get. While we can get multiple teams in the access bowls, there’s no guarantee. Most years it will be like this.
The Belk will become like the old CFA in terms of match-ups. If I was mayor of Charlotte, I’d be on the horn with the Panthers’ owner to find a coach, get that team competitive and build a dome. They could have a very marquee event in the future.
I personally think it was the best game for us. We play ND in 2017 and 2019 on campuses. No need to play them in a city we go to every other year. We’ve played Wisky in Tampa eleventy billion times. No thanks. We weren’t going to the Gator this year.
Had we beaten Tech, it would have gotten really interesting. Clemson would have been the highest ranked ACC team besides FSU, which would have sent them to the Orange. We’d have been 7. The rules stipulate that we should have gone to Orange. They could have moved Miss. St. up and put them in the Orange still. Zona would have been the odd man out. Probably would have sent Baylor or TCU to Fiesta vs. Boise. Ole Miss probably goes Cotton vs. Mich. St. and we go Peach vs. TCU/Baylor. It will take a couple of years for everyone to get used to the system, but the best way to think about it is that the Belk Bowl is more like the old CFA Bowl.

this is the only thing that has excited me since the loss to tech. charlotte is a great city and thank God we don’t have to play Wisconsin after that embarrassing 59-0 loss to the chokeyes………in the damn outback bowl. we might have sent 5,000 to tampa instead of the 15,000 to 20,000 we will have in charlotte. gata jyd

After the loss to Tech, we’d already decided to go to Charlotte for Widespread Panic on the 31st. We’ll just go a day earlier and scalp some good seats, on the cheap, for the bowl game. $30-40 for the chance to yell at Grantham is a bargain.
