By the way, Bill’s piece I linked to this morning reminded me that I hadn’t called out this remarkable run by Sony Michel in the Tennessee game.
There is so much going on there… dodging the defender after Wynn’s whiff… the turn upfield to split the two defenders being blocked on Georgia’s left side… the dodge of the UT player at the 25 (go pick up your jock, son)… the stiff arm at the 35… another tackle shed just before the 50… and Godwin’s terrific block to net a few more yards at the end of the run.
Just fabulous. Other than ball security, of course, which Michel had best improve on real, real soon.
Sony has really “bulked up” since last season and has more power, it seems. Maybe this has been discussed, if it has forgive me, but where is AJ Turman? And, alas, how DID we lose that game? Sigh..

After the Will Grier situation, talk of any player bulking up has just a whiff of jinx about it.

Remind me please — did we score on this drive or waste the run?

Gotta squeeze that ball better. Thomas Brown never fumbled that I can remember. Coach gotta coach.

Tennessee had the play stuffed for a three yard loss.
Missed block in the back call on Wynn should have moved the ball half the distance to the 6.

Block in the back isn’t illegal behind the line between the tackles.

Thanks. Great recovery by Wynn.

Remarkable run. But especially after seeing the low-angle replay I started to talk about how Sony didn’t appear to be very focused on ball security. It was prophetic.

I don’t think we will see any drop off in production with Sony at tailback.Hate it for Chubb, but next man up. SM will get 200 against Mizz, and the dawgs will roll. LSU knocks off FU and we control our own distiny. Never give up.

Michel is one heckuvan athlete. I noticed many times Saturday though that he just does not have Chubb’s vision (few do). There were multiple runs with wide open cutback lanes that Michel completely missed and ran into a pile for 2-3 yds where Chubb would have gained 10-12 or broken one off.

Agree, we are fortunate to have backs of Michel and Marshall’s ability in reserve but you just don’t replace a Chubb without losing something. I would like to see us get Marshall and Michel the ball wide or on passes, just don’t think we can make a living between the tackles like we tried to do so frequently with NC. Time for the OL to man up.

Agree Brandon. And Marshall has never had Chubb’s or Gurley’s vision either.

“…and Godwin’s terrific block to net a few more yards at the end of the run.”
But I thought the latest meme was our WRs don’t block, since Conley & Bennett graduated.

Doing it once isn’t the same as doing it consistently.
Godwin is a freshman, a very talented one, but a freshman all the same.

I sort of felt like Chuibb was better than Gurley last year, ans Michel was better than Chubb this year. Sony get at least 5 nearly very carry, where Chubb goes long stretches with 2-3 yard gains, and busts a long one. I like Sony better, and Sony gives you a better pass option too.
That was one of the sickest runs ever.

This play occurred soon after Gary Danielson questioned Michel’s ability to play tailback in the SEC. What a giant douche.

Besides the fumbles, my only other complaint about Michel is that he ditched his retro hightop haircut

You can really see in that footage how little of the field Lambert sees, he head rarely looks away from where he ends up throwing it. On that lasy play there was a half-hearted fake to the middle of the field. Pass was on the money but that safety was just too close. Question, would CMR have gone for two, or gone to OT?
