I didn’t think it was possible for anyone with a paying media gig to pull this off, but Matt Hayes has managed to make Mark Bradley seem rational about Mark Richt’s career path.
Georgia coach Mark Richt was asked Tuesday about his name popping up on candidates for the Miami job. And unlike the last time the job came open in 2010 and the former Miami QB shot down any notion of returning to his alma mater, this response had an eerie sense of, well, wanting.
“I don’t think much of it really,” Richt said. “I love my alma mater, the U. No doubt about it, but there’s been nobody calling or writing or texting or anything like that. So I’m sure they’ll find a great coach.”
A couple of things: When Richt was at Miami, it wasn’t the “U” — it was a program that was on the heels of nearly being shut down before Howard Schnellenberger took over. That statement from Richt is a clear message that he’s not only interested in Miami, but he’s interested in other jobs.
Jayzus. Time to start watching that flight tracking service for news, I guess.
Shit, there was a geek on Stingtalk a couple of days ago saying that he was on a commercial flight to Miami with Mark Richt. I’ll see if I can find the thread.

Wth? This guy would spend years in South America looking for a prize from a treasure map he found on the back of a cereal box. Mark Richt likes Miami = Details of the new contract are unclear.

Can I start blaming the asshole fans for running Richt off and destroying the program or must I restrict myself to reality? In other words, do I have more responsibility as a poster than Matt Hayes has as a sports journalist?

You misspelled “crediting.”

The good news is that there will be no “credit” nor “blame” because the people I am describing do not matter. At all. For anything. Ever. Useless. Worthless. Irrelevant.

Was that supposed to hurt my feelings or make me angry or something?

My intention was not to stir any particular feelings. My supposition was that the “fire Richt” crowd would treat it like any other factual assertion they might confront in their daily lives, i.e., confusion, denial, ignorance, obfuscation, etc., etc… Obviously all of the evidence showing that they’ll never ever get their way is entirely meaningless to them. I would likewise believe that they would resist the clear truth that they are undeniably inconsequential.

I guess Hayes missed the interview with Richt on Sirius XM College Sports about 30 minutes ago where he said he wants to finish his career at UGA and was not interested in coaching Miami.

Of course not, because there is no money in getting factual info straight from the source. Better to make up your own story line and get the clicks from your National Enquirer-like audience. I would hate to see him end up at Miami but would not be shocked to see him walk away from UGA, couldn’t blame him at all.

Richt’s agent probably told him to “purchase a round trip to Miami for $250 on Delta and it’ll help us leverage another $500,000 out of Buttsmear.”

The sad thing is that is so true, which is a testament to how ridiculous the coaching market is now.

How can anyone with even the slightest ability to read jump to that big of a conclusion? Matt like many other media types goes in with a conclusion and then interprets the facts to fit his conclusion.

I think he was just trying to do his alma mater a favor by elevating that job… and I think it worked. Plus he was able to take a little swipe at his critics and maybe adgm and others.

I’m terrible at writing, so being part of the media is out for me. Is there any other industry I can get into where I won’t be held accountable for what I’m wrong about because I generated “clicks”. I guess what I mean is, where can I find a job where being wrong makes money.
I really wish “sports columnists” out there would cover other sports columnists the way the do with head coaches. Man, talk about something being a hoot!

Miami is the worst so-called ‘major program’ job in the country, and no successful coach, with options, would dare touch that job. They have a small but fickle fan base, they have limited money, mediocre facilities, play in a horrible stadium 30+ miles away in which the upper deck (and portions of the lower deck) are always empty…I can go on and on.
These days, Miami is USF with a more full trophy case from past success. That’s about it.

Don’t disagree a bit, and I will add UGA is the top football job in Georgia, whereas Miami is no better than the 3rd best football job in Florida.

Oh, I just remembered something I heard Hayes say on the radio down here. They have him on once a week to talk college football, and the week of the Florida-Missouri game, with Florida coming off their signature win over Ole Miss, he said Florida would be facing a completely different challenge against Missouri because they can run the ball. At the time, Missouri was 113th in the country in rushing offense. They’re 123rd now.

This is my take on Richt’s comment. As an alumni of a University and I am a double alumni of one University (undergraduate and postgraduate), I definitely will show some respect to that university and not readily dismiss any rumors of any job offers without actually being offered and at least listening with the powers of that university. And considering what kind of a person Richt is, it is just hard for me to imagine him doing any lesser than that. Just saying.

in the Athens Metro Area. The money Is getting even better
There Is no reason for Richt to leave UGA in the immediate future.
He probably pays as much attention to the Fire Richt Crowd as I do. None..
