Starting this afternoon, I’m taking a short vacation, so there’s that.
I’ll have my trusty Chromebook with me, and I’ll try to do a little blogging when the mood suits me. But as I’ll be some five time zones away and plan on not being around my hotel wifi much of the time, posts will no doubt be sporadic while I’m gone.
As will my babysitting the comments section, unfortunately. I was kind of hoping the emotional reaction to Richt’s departure – okay, more specifically, the ongoing emotional battle between some of you over Richt – would have exhausted itself by now, but there appear to be a few stubborn remaining embers of that flickering away. If those of you continuing to throw smack at each other wouldn’t mind doing me a favor by getting over it, that would be good.
In any event, behave, you scamps.
Food fight……

Well, I just returned from seven time zones away…took me to Turkey, but I hope it’s Hawaii…MaiTais are more available and the weather is better. It’s hell to be without WiFi…managed to get back to Virginia and picked up a local paper where on the back it said: “Richt Out At Georgia”. I could not believe it..had to sit down and then shout out to my wife the news. Well, I’m home now and reading all the news on GTP and Dawgbone…I still hurt but am filled with the usual optimism that the Dawgs will prevail. Senator, have as good a vacation as I did and come back full of piss and vinegar.

Agree wholeheartedly. I also request that folks also cease gratuitously rewriting the history of the last 5 years to allege it was worse than it was. The players who won the 39 games don’t deserve having their accomplishments dawggraded, either. UGA is not going to fire the same guy twice nor is it going to hire anyone back.
Smart deserves a group of fans who look to support his program and the players he inherits.

I will miss your posts as they keep me up to date on what is going on. What I really like is the way you seem to present all sides of the situation.
That being said… I read an update on Jason Eason at DawgNation. For some reason this kid gives me an uneasy feeling. He seems to like this tug of war between us and Florida and I worry about the lack of loyalty. Is he committed to UGA or Richt? I just don’t get it. He needs to get over himself and shit or get off the pot. Personally, I’d rather this sCam Newton,Messiah wannabe go to FU. Are there any good quarterbacks out there, or are they all snapped up? What is our Plan B since we seem to have pinned all our hopes on this prima donna? I want wondering what you think of all the fawning going on Senator.

I don’t know if this is humor, but I’ve seen the same sentiment in other places so I’ll address it. You are an embarrassment to UGA fans everywhere and to human kind in general. That your emotions hinge on the decisions of an 18 year old high school football player – who had ALREADY made his decision but has now backed off of that decision due to circumstances beyond his control created by UGA – is pretty sad. I give Eason credit for backing off of his decision, assessing the changes, organizing an alternative solution, and not jumping into a situation he is not 100% certain about. I want Eason to come to UGA, but I completely understand his wait and see approach. He is entitled to see who the OC will be. That’s the kind of kid and QB we WANT. One who can assess a situation instead of making a snap judgement. But go on ahead and be offended that he won’t satisfy your thirst for instant gratification.
I would hope Jacob is not reading sentiments like yours and thinking UGA has a bunch of entitled narcissists, because we’re not all like you.

This person just totally ripped into an 18 year old kid who formulated a back up plan after we changed the terms of the game, not him. “Scam Newton wannabe?” “Prima donna?”
Yea, I stand by my comments. This commenter is a lousy, narcissistic person, and is an embarassment to UGA fans. Jacob, or “Jason” if you want to call him that, his every right to make sure he’s making the correct decision which will impact his life forever.

I’d say a little loony is substantially different than calling someone an embarrassment to the human race.

Semantics. And you aren’t the first person on here to accuse me (perhaps accurately) of being melodramatic.
Can’t we at least agree that the sentiment expressed that Eason lacks loyalty is totally unsubstantiated and embarrassing to the fan base?
LikeLike
Yes to unsubstantiated, which is actually a mild way to say that. Eh, on the embarrassing part.
LikeLike
Sure. As fans, surely we can agree that these high school kids must (or should) consider our entertainment first and foremost when making life-altering decisions. And, if we believe that their choices will negatively impact our entertainment, we can insult these kids and complain to all who will listen.
But we must be protected from criticism. After all, we’re not 18 year-old kids. We’re adults. We have different rules.

Eason has handled himself well, in my opinion. He never attempted to hold UGA hostage. All he is doing is making sure he is not going to be stuck running a Paul Johnson triple option. Ryan Mallett committed to Michigan and enrolled when it ran a pro-style offense. Michigan then hired Rich Rodriquez and ran the spread, and Mallet was the worst candidate in America to QB that offense. No one said that “He needs to get over himself and shit or get off the pot. Personally, I’d rather this Cam Newton,Messiah wannabe go to FU” when he transferred to Arkansas to play in an offense suited to his skills.
Eason has not decommitted. He has expressed a desire to remain at Georgia so long as he does not wind up in a Ryan Mallett situation, and is giving UGA a fair opportunity to let him know what type of offense he would be running.
I would hope you would advise your kid to make sure he was comfortable with the system before he enrolled. If you would not then you would be doing your kid a disservice.

Or you could check out the video, taken in a bar in Gainesville, during Jacob’s visit to UF, and you will notice it is actually a brunette he is making out with. Funniest part? A hand, from an off-camera 3rd party, reaches past him and guides the girl’s face over to his, basically instigating the kiss. UF co-ed hosts, hard on the recruiting trail..

Most any program in the Country would love to have this kid. Not sure why you want to call him a Prima Donna. Give the kid a break, the Coach that recruited him for the last few years got FIRED…kid deserves a chance to breath. It’s a big decision.

Everything I heard about Jacob points to him being a good kid. He stayed out of the spotlight with a solid commitment until the turnover. Now he wants to be sure he is in the right system for him.
Having said that, it really gets me that of all teams he chose UF to consider.

I just wish people would STFU already about Richt. I was an avid supporter of Richt, and disappointed that we let him go. But he’s no longer our coach. Kirby is. Anybody still engaging in that discussion is more concerned with being right than they are about the future of UGA football. Sad commentary on our fan base and our society.

They do have some point but they don’t seem to understand few things about UGA, such as transplant families loyal to their hometown schools. Also schools outside the state have strong multi generation ties to Georgia residents, Auburn being the biggest.
