By the time Alabama’s post-season is over, Kirby will at least feel better about his decision not to keep Pruitt.

I dunno. By the time Bama’s post-season is over and Kirby has been AWOL on the recruiting trail for Georgia Pruitt will have flipped every major UGA defensive commitment to Bama so………..Kirby might be feeling a few regrets.

So you are saying Pruitt’s phone works during the dead period and Kirby’s doesn’t?

Pruitt can’t contact any recruits between now and the time the Bama postseason is over. Is he flipping them through telepathy?
And I know…recruits can contact him. They can also contact Kirby. You think if a recruit calls Kirby, he’s going to just not take the call because he’s busy trying to figure out what MSU is going to do on second and seven? Come on, man….
LikeLike
By the way….I’m not saying we WON’T lose any defensive recruits between now and signing day. We likely will. But it won’t be because Kirby was in Tuscaloosa during the dead period. It will be because every time a program makes a complete change in leadership, it should expect to lose recruits.
We will also GAIN recruits due to Kirby being one of the best recruiters in the business. It’s already happening.
LikeLike
What a bunch of BS!!! “We will lose some recruits but it won’t be because the new HC wasn’t out recruiting to hold the class together. It would just be because committed recruits abandon what they said the would do before the coaching change. Perfectly normal.” WTF???? That’s exactly why the HC has to get on his horse and re-recruit the commitments. Right now the D recruits don’t even know who they would be playing for. Instead Kirby is still working to try to win a NC for one of our rivals. This smells worse and worse every day.
LikeLike
Yes…every time a team changes coaches, there are always decomittments. I don’t know why that would be a controversial statement.
I guess we will wait and see. I think Kirby’s first recruiting class will be as good or better than the class would have been if we had kept Richt. You obviously don’t. Either way….go dawgs!

I guess it depends on how much importance you put on winning the TaxSlayer Bowl as compared to how much importance you put on what the program does down the road.

The SEC Network needs to set up cameras in that office. Coach Pruitt could only benefit from talking to and working with the guy who knows his new defensive players best, and Kirby can learn plenty about what he’s inheriting at Georgia, too. If Kirby accepts input or at least discusses the plans for the upcoming game that would be some fascinating football conversation to which to be privy. Those are two great football minds. Throw in Coach Saban, and you could sell that tape to any defensive coach in the country.
Of course, if it’s just weird and awkward with no conversation, then that would be fun to watch, too.

I imagine Nick is going to use Pruitt as a consultant for these 2 games. In particular, he and Smart will love having Pruitt as a resource to talk about how we defended the Clemson offense and how he handled it at F$U.
I doubt there are hard feelings between Smart & Pruitt. If Pruitt stayed on, he would have had less autonomy because Smart was going to put his fingerprint on the defense. That’s why I think Sherrer will be an internal promote. It seems Nick is now a hands-on CEO type of coach. He’s probably going to give Pruitt some leeway within the system.

This is wrong. And dumb.
I’ve never been as critical of Richt as you describe. I simply dared to suggest that it was time for him to go. And I was right. You may have interpreted that as my criticizing “anything Mark Richt did,” but that’s only because of how attached to the man you’d become. Not my problem.
That’s the difference between you and me. I root for Georgia. You root for Mark Richt.
Nor do I think that everything Smart has done has been great. For instance, I’d rather him cut ties completely with Alabama than coach them through the postseason. But for the most part, I’ve been very pleased so far. And as the link shows, I’m hardly alone in this. Fellow coaches, former players, and prominent members of sports media all seem to agree that Smart’s decisions in his first week as head coach were neither “ridiculous” nor “destructive.” You’ll pardon me for finding their opinions more trustworthy than some lovesick Richt apologist on the internet.
Here’s the problem for heartbroken Richtophiles like yourself. After nearly a decade of underachieving, my optimism with Richt had run out. But Smart has only been Georgia’s head coach for a little over a week. And it’s been a good week. So I and many other Georgia fans have a replenished well of optimism. And that kills you.

If you think I am a Richt supporter Turd, you can’t or don’t read. You just write. And do it badly. I am on the record as saying I am glad CMR is gone. My gripe is and has been that we fired a coach who averaged about 10 wins a season because he didn’t win championships–and instead of hiring a proven winner like a Saban or a Meyer (not necessarily one of them but someone like them) we squandered the opportunity and hired a DC who has never been a HC before. Worse, during the most critical time of his new tenure (i.e. recruiting his first class and putting together a staff to hold onto the best recruiting class UGA has had in years) the new HC is AWOL helping one of Georgia’s rivals try to win a NC. Sorry Turd, I agree with you sometimes but this is not one of them. Quit being a Kirby Smart apologist and at least admit it when the guy is off base. And what he is doing right now is way off base for his new school–Georgia.

I would contend that the real reason Kirby is coaching at Alabama through the end of their season is all about the kids on the team. If we believe Kirby to not be a liar, he said as much. It’s not Saban making him stay, it’s Kirby honoring the commitment he made to his players. He is not going to leave them hanging until they complete their quest for achieving their goals for the season.
It’s a no win situation. Kirby stays, he is screwing Georgia. Kirby leaves, he is leaving his players hanging, breaking the promises he made, which is what most fans love to criticize coaches for doing.
LikeLike
Selfishly, I wish Kirby had completely cut ties with Alabama already. But I agree that it’s a no-win situation.
People say it’s Saban forcing him to stay, but there’s absolutely zero evidence that that’s actually the case. And if, indeed, it’s Kirby honoring a commitment to players that he recruited and coached, then the irony of many Georgia fans’ bellyaching is almost too perfect to ignore. They complain about us firing a high-character guy like Richt, but then, when Kirby does something that shows a little character of his own, they bitch about him not being “all in” for Georgia. (Meanwhile, Richt’s sunbathing in South Beach …)

From what I’ve heard, Cochran stayed at Bama for two reasons: (1) he’s a year away from qualifying for a retirement pension from the state of Alabama, and (2) UGA was unwilling to pay half-a-million dollars for a strength coach. That may be the new frontier in assistant football coach salaries — i.e., quality strength coaches getting paid big bucks — but even with the recent changes, it won’t surprise me if UGA is one of the last major football programs to get on board.

CMR should be appreciated for his contributions and is a DGD. Now Kirby gets his chance to continue writing his story in the history books of Bulldawg football.
