The Southeastern Conference will implement a collaborative process for instant replay in the sport of football beginning with the 2016 season, following a unanimous vote of the league’s athletics directors and approval by the SEC Executive Committee.
In February, the NCAA Football Rules Committee approved a request submitted by the SEC to allow conferences to use a collaborative process for instant replay on an experimental basis. Under this experiment, personnel operating from SEC Headquarters will assist the in-stadium Instant Replay Officials when replay decisions are made.
So now we’ll have the on-field officials being reviewed by an in-stadium replay official, who will be “assisted” by the main office. Got it.
I don’t know if this will be an improvement, but I’ll bet CBS and ESPN will be happy about the additional dead time.

If so, instead of ads, why not decide at the upcoming SEC Spring Meetings in Destin (No Spring Break y’all post-meeting drug testing allowed) to run this as the go-to song during The SEC Home Office Replay Process. It’s got a good beat and you can dance to it.

Focusing on better officiating would be cheaper. 60 year old semi retired lawyers and insurance brokers can’t see or run well. They also grew up running the wishbone and veer.

Wow we are going to get another level of old retired officials screwing up the screw ups. I’m 69, finally reached my handle number, and it will not be much of an improvement. The only thing I see it improving is the habit that the replay official has of never overturning a call by the Referee (crew chief). At least the guys in B’ham won’t GAS who the crew chief is. Some of the worst calls have been created by the Referee. The hands to the face call against the wrong player comes to mind. If they can’t overturn those type calls then the whole system is a waste of time.

Those won’t get overturned, so you just have another layer of review. Penalties other than targeting aren’t reviewable.

I am one who supports replay, just disappointed that the booth officials have whiffed on some pretty obvious calls, and pretty certain it was intentionally missed to protect their buds on the field. If another layer of oversight corrects those calls, I can support this experiment/change. I understand the concerns about time but feel if they would stick to the original directives that the overturns are obvious mistakes, it should not ever take long anyway. The borderline, slam/bang plays should be left alone and that is the only reason for anything over 1-2 minutes. Given the technology available, this could, and should, work out fine.
