“He develops coaches like he develops players.”

As far as head coaching goes, Kirby is selling the “apple doesn’t fall from the tree” here.

Not sure how that explains Boom’s head coaching career to date, though.

    Will’s downfall was the hiring of the schematic (dis)advantage…
    Never could recover on that side of the ball. His D was never the issue

        The turds won’t have Pastor Pooch Kick to hand them the East this season. McElwain should keep Richt on his Christmas card list forever.

    Boom left the Saban bubble when Saban was still a successful, albeit not legendary, coach. Saban had yet to achieve sustained success, so it is an open question whether or not Boom absorbed the lessons that have given Saban sustained success at a high level. It sure doesn’t look like it.

    Don’t want to be raining on the victory parade but it seems to me that Kirby had better not coach like Saban. Saban coaches a team of semi-pro players, UGA does not have that. The thing that impressed me about Pruitt last year was that he made chicken salad out of chicken poop. Kirby is used to that depth he keeps talking about. So is he going to wait for his recruiting to give him Alabama depth or is he going to coach up what he has at his disposal. That my friends is the $64,000 question.

      I could be wrong…I was wrong once back in the early 60’s…but, I think the ‘attention-to-detail’ characteristic is the important ingredient in the coaching skill that eventually leads to the wins. The ‘ATD’ ensures a good recruiting class, it’s what helps Kirby realize the deficiencies in talent, where assistant coaches should focus there attention, where changes in the admin would help the program…etc…When the top dog has his thumb on the pulse of all aspects of the program, the assistants are more attentive with their duties.

      As Pumblechook pointed out above, Boom didn’t seem to ‘learn’ the Saban coaching prowess. It may not be as much about learning as it is execution. Boom may ‘understand’ the importance of ATD but may not have the focus-characteristic that ensures the execution/implementation of the details. It appears that Kirby’s ATD has already affected the program in positive ways…so let’s hope the final detail is the ability to coach at game-time and we have success on the field.
