Thought the passer ratings from Saturday night were interesting.
- Jacob Eason: 185.87
- Greyson Lambert: 119.20
- Mitch Trubisky: 92.76
Georgia averaged 9.3 yards per pass attempt; Trubisky averaged 3.9 yppa. Given that the Heels averaged more than 8 yards per rush, giving Hood and Logan a combined 16 carries while letting Trubisky throw the ball 40 times was coaching malpractice.

I want those refs on every game we play this year. Seemed like every time UNC got something going with the run game a penalty threw them into a long situation. Plus they were used to gaudy numbers in the passing game and Mitch Trubisky is the real deal. They must be reading their own press clippings. As much as I grumbled about the quarterback timing of the switching on Saturday….I think I would have lost my mind if I was a Tar Heel fan.

This seems to be a common problem with all of the pass-happy spread coaches. They are so enamored with using perimeter screens “as their run game” that they won’t just RTDB. We had a very hard time setting the edge, and they would not attack it.
It is one thing that drives me batty when watching a Mike Leach coached team. They will not run the ball without a numbers advantage in the box regardless of what the running game has been doing. That’s why the end up scoring < 17 points when defenses squat on the short hitches, slants, and crosses. It he would run it more against base defense, he could get an extra man in the box and looser coverage.

Senator, did you happen to notice the QBRs for the trio of worthies the Gus Bus rolled out Saturday? One of them was a 2.5, if I read the article correctly. And he was only the second worst.

Another stupid tendency of the spread: Big play followed up by a hurry up dive or option run play that gets 1-2 yards. That might have worked 3-4 years ago but defenses have pretty much figured it out. If spread coaches really wanted to get defenses on their heels, they would hurry up to a predetermined pass play at least 40% of the time, but watching hurry up all weekend, it was 99%+ hurry up to one of the team’s most basic run plays. Feels good to get that off my chest…

Setting the edge is not something we do very well is it. I watched the Mac Truck running backs on the field for the ND TX game and thought we’re going to need bigger Dlineman and soon.

I listened to the game in the car on a road trip. Fedora apparently spent more time sulking over his best friend Beckman being sent packing than coming up with a reasonable game plan.

He acted like a Boom impersonator most of the game before he finally got a flag. I think the flag was for the cumulative effect more than the last incident alone. Dumb for HCs to act like juveniles.

That would explain what looked on TV to be a pretty quick reaction by the ref. So it wasn’t an isolated event. I don’t know how Boom gets away with it though…there’s been times when I thought he should be ejected.
