It’s getting harder to tell the haves from the have-nots.

Kansas has plans for a $300 million stadium renovation and Arkansas State is going with the waterfall look; meanwhile, Missouri is renting out dorm rooms to visiting football fans in order to make ends meet.

College football, I don’t know you anymore.

LOL at KU. You have one of the shittiest programs in the history of college football. Maybe that explains why attendance and support suck, and always have.

As for Missouri, empty dorm rooms really are a bad look. Jeez. Seems like that’s less about money for the athletic dept. than appearance of the university.

You are correct. It is all about the university scrambling to make money due to the huge revenue hit from continuing declining freshmen enrollment. Meanwhile Melissa Click was hired by gonzaga. Hope that goes bettter for the Zags then it turned out for the Zoos.

True, but she moved from a tenure-track position at Missouri to a one-year temporary position with no possibility of tenure at Gonzaga. Lucky to have a job at all, yes, but they at least can get rid of her easily for much less than what she did at Missouri.

Yes, but why hire her in the first place? Heck even the student newspaper denounced the hiring. She is teaching four sections of required freshmen classes. Is this really who you want teaching your daughter/son??

I wouldn’t sweat it over one class, that’s for sure. As for why hire her– why hire John Calipari? Why hire Ian McCaw? Why hire Jim Tressel? Why hire Dave Bliss? She was TT faculty at one of the top schools in her field and went to one that’s not on the radar. Other than that, I have no idea how any of the people I listed, or their ilk, get hired again.

Because it is risk v reward. The people you just mentioned bring in millions and millions of dollars by winning. That makes it easier to hold your nose. No kid is choosing to go to a school for a freshmen professor. There is simply no financial upside. Whenever you have trouble understanding a situation like this just follow the money. There is your difference.

Joining the SEC and racial strife. Perfect storm for mediocrity in all phases at Mizzou. I feel bad for their alums.

Missouri has one of the top journalism programs in the country if not THE top program. Racial strife experience is an excellent credential to have in journalism. Don’t feel sorry for them.

  3. If Arkansas State gonna have waterfalls in the end zone, they’re going to need more bathrooms down there. Maybe they’d hire McGarity as a bathroom consultant.

The University of Missouri is having some serious problems. Their enrollment has declined significantly over the past couple of years in the wake of some really bad PR in response to racial strife on their campus. The measure to try to rent dorm rooms to visiting fans is a fairly desperate response to generate some revenue to try to make up for the dip in enrollment. I’m not sure what the answer up there is, but they’re in for some tough times as a school.

  5. A stadium renovation?
    300 Mil?
For that much scratch, they should just build a brand new stadium that’ll hold the 30,000 or so KU draws on a good day, and call it a moral victory.
