He’s been hurt, hurt, hurt…

Based on what I’ve seen, I can’t say it’s a real big surprise to learn that D’Andre Swift’s groin is still giving him trouble.

Swift said he has been dealing with a groin injury that has been going on “for a while.” He also said he dealt with a similar injury in the spring, and added he felt fine against Missouri when he ran for 71 yards on 16 carries.

Ba“I get treatment like seven in the morning every day, just try to do it three times a day before practice just to get ready for practice,” Swift said. “But I’m good now.”

That depends on your definition of good.

Swift said his injury is the kind that takes time to heal, “but unfortunately, I don’t have time right now.”

Swift at 80% is still a productive player.  Swift at 100% is a stud.  It would be nice if he could get some rest before LSU.

I wish they’d let him sit the Tennessee game. If we can’t win that one without him, we’ve got much bigger problems than his absence.

  2. From all indications, Holyfield could tote the rock 20-25 times. Throw in Herrien for 10 and that ought to take care of the Orange Overalls. And I still would like to see what Fromm can do with 30 pass attempts.

They could, and yet, that would like end up wearing Holyfield down that much more. Kinda damned if you do, damned if you don’t, but all the more reason to try to put an early beatdown on any and all teams we possibly can. Minimize the punishment on everyone.

I doubt 1 or 2 games rest is enough to heal a nagging hamstring.

Not a hamstring, problem is in the groin area. In fact maybe not a tear/pull at all from what I have heard. I agree with others that I wish we had been resting him but it is possible this could last all season since he has been fighting it for a while and seemed to lack the explosiveness we all expected. None of us know, Courson is the best so I am sure he is getting good advice.

I was surprised we saw Thomas at tackle last week, that turned out to be a bad call too. Really no need to rush players back in this week, and probably not next week either. If we are going to push the envelope, LSU would seem to be the time to peak during this mid-season stretch.

Those things are awful. I hurt mine 40 years ago and it still bothers me from time to time. They aren’t predictable and there’s no amount of rest that guarantees it won’t be an issue the very next time you stress it.

The other problem is that it impacts his strength: quickness. The hurt leg just won’t do what you want it to do. The leg feels like it’s just hanging there and won’t respond.

Bottom line: as long as he feels fine in warm ups there’s no reason to rest him. You could sit him until the SECCG and it bother him then. You could play him in every game and it not bother him on 12/1. He’s gonna suffer with this thing all year. It’s just the nature of it. You shut him down when it hurts, play him when it doesn’t. Treat it constantly and hope. It’s all you can do.

I don’t see what the big deal is. My wife pulled my groin twice this week, and I feel great.

Bummed for the kid. Hope he heals fast.

We went from being insanely loaded at RB to now dangerously thin. I guess we’re regressing toward the mean after a largely injury-free season in 2017.

I hope we can see more of James Cook. Not sure why he’s been kept to the sidelines. Also our WR room is more talented than our RB, so I wish we’d use this as a chance to throw the ball more.

    • Like all talented offensive skill players that remain on the sidelines for UGA, I’d guess blocking has something to do with Cook’s absence on the field.

This could be the second time in the last 5 years it has happened. I began both seasons thinking we are loaded and very deep, only to find us using 7th string RBs in one year, and bringing players in from other position groups in this one. Dang!

Still think we are OK, especially if Swift recovers soon, but we are now one wet field slip from being on thin ice at what looked to be one of the best RB groups in the country with loads of depth. A flicker of fear in the back of my mind when Zeus tore the ACL, but I said, nah, couldn’t happen again. Hope we aren’t being punished for all the good fortune we had with injuries last season.

Also, Andrew Thomas?! Why are they trying to rush him back so quickly? He didn’t look close to 100% in his few series against Missouri. Practicing with the first team this week with a heavy limp? I trust the coaches in a lot of areas, but this doesn’t make much sense to me.

Bottom line is that we almost certainly don’t NEED him for the next few weeks. But, we will against LSU on Oct. 13. Rest him up and get him back healthy.

I think Holyfield is ready; Herrien and Cook are ready. If Ron Courson says Swift can play, that is good, too. But if Ron is saying he’d be better off getting rest, then that is what they ought to do. No reason against UT to take any chances. I understand what Derek is saying – and maybe that is right – but I trust Ron Courson more. I am worried that Swift is telling Kirby he’s good to go because he has a warrior mentality, but this is a case where Kirby needs to talk to Ron.

Let the subs do their job and put em in the game. We’re gonna need the starters later in the season. Mays, Hayes, Baker, etc., can stand in for Thomas and Cleveland. Holyfield, Herrien and Cook can take up the slack for Swift. Not sure why this is an important issue for lowly utk. As much as I’d like to beat them by 50, I’ll settle for using the subs and beating them by 25.

Man, y’all are some confident, cocky jokers. Here’s hoping you’re right. But I don’t think for one minute that we’re going to get six turnovers from our orange friends.
