SEC commissioner Greg Sankey: "I want to be absolutely clear. I have great confidence and great appreciation for the people who officiate college football." League exploring how it comments on officiating moving forward. Will take "deep dive," into its officiating program.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I used to make a similar promise to girlfriends in my youth. 🙂

It’s a preemptive ass-covering.
Oh, and OT, but our Alumni Association is asking other teams to pull for us against Bama? WTF? Who signed off on that? That’s just sad and mock-worthy.

I thought it was embarrassing! Bad idea IMO.

Especially the 11 teams we stomped this year.

We don’t need other teams’ help in any form, except to beat teams we need them to beat, when that beating is necessary.

NFLs most experienced crew had some clear misses in the Saints-Cowboys game last night. Replay every snap is the only answer I suppose.

True, but Bama wasn’t called for ONE penalty in the MSU game. That’s not even possible. In addition to that, Swift’s head getting turned around so hard and far that even the people in the nose bleeds saw it is inexcusable. Especially when the play happens to the ball carrier not off to the side somewhere. Those are just a few….as we all know.

Does this mean Penn Wagers is coming back to head tomorrow’s crew?

I posted this in response to Charolettedawg in the previous 2nd and 26 section…….“Not to mention Alabama is going to get all the calls, sorry that’s just the way it is” . Come on everyone….follow the money . How does the SEC make the most money? By getting two teams in the playoffs. How does that happen? Georgia wins and gets in the playoffs as the SEC champs and Bama gets in with only one lose. Because the way the SEC maximizes revenues is to have the officiates slant the field in UGA’s favor and get two teams in the playoffs, It follows that the officials are on the DAWGS side for at least this one game. It still may not be enough but I don’t think the dawgs will be fighting the officials this time. SHOW THE SEC THE MONEY.

I concur with this theory.

As tonight illustrated yet again, the Bama money is a never-ending
thing so it doesn’t matter about what happens in 2018. They always get the calls guaranteeing they will be the SEC representative- at a minimum.

Sounds like Sankey had a statement ready for after the game tomorrow and accidently released early.

Get that SEC office the hell out of Alabama and have a rule that NO SEC referee/official can be a graduate of a member school.

Or f**king Georgia Tech!

That’s already a rule. Got a friend that’s a linejudge with an SEC crew. He’s not allowed to call any Auburn games because not only did he graduate from there, he was a player. They’ll rotate him out to another game when his crew gets Auburn.

I think Cosimo’s point is that a graduate of a member school shouldn’t be an SEC official, period.

Don’t ever forget that those were Jim Delany’s handpicked choices the last time we played in the Benz. Given the documented problems with that crew in the B1G, it was a calculated middle finger to CFB.

There’s too much money in CFB now to have the conferences run the officiating. It was a damn joke before … now, I just think it’s corrupt.
I never thought I would see worse officiating than in the SEC, but that bunch from the B1G made me wish for an SEC crew.
This year the blatant Alabama bias has been nauseating.

When your boss graduated from there you are not going to screw Bama. Just like when we used to get hosed regularly by the GT guy who was head of officials before Shaw. You can’t change human nature.

Look, I get that officials aren’t perfect and all the rest. But when the overwhelming majority of 50/50 or bad calls go in Bama’s favor, it certainly makes you wonder what the hell is going on.

We don’t have to wonder, we know what is going on.

Yes, officiating should be centralized and not tied to any conference at all. Assignment of officials should be from out of the area and with no ties to a school involved, or their rivals. There is more than enough money to upgrade officiating, just look at what we pay strength coaches and how many staff “analysts” are now involved. I am not a conspiracy guy on this issue, but the incompetency alone is bad enough to justify the change. Standardizing enforcement is a close secondary need to competency, each crew seems to have their “hot buttons”; this is true within the conference, and especially across the country as you watch games. Big 14 crew was awful in that 2nd half but I will say they are usually better than the SEC crews.

Watch bama’s o-line Dawg fans, just watch. That bunch is gonna hold and “tackle” your d-line and LBs all day long. And the R and C officials will look right at it and the hand will never reach for the hankie. It’s coming, so get your mindset right, because playing bama brings a whole set of different rules.

We know, JRJ, we know.
The only hope I have is that all of the smoke from the last few weeks is going to make the officials call the game straight up.
What am I thinking? #BamaPrivilege is real and, if you’re a Bammer, it’s spectacular.
